I did the normal sudo apt-get update and upgrade this morning and after a restart, the network-manager is gone!
nm-applet command does not work anymore.
Can I add the LAN ethernet interface using ifconfig and connect to the net to install the network-manager again?
Yesterday when I went to boot my netbook "Dell Mini 9" into ubuntu, I got an error of. Install Problem! Gnome power manager. I've tryed the following Code: sudo apt-get remove gnome-power-manager --purge Then Code: sudo apt-get install gnome-power-manger but did not work, is there anything which I can do, and can still keep all my files, as I've got impotent course work on there.

I just want to upgrade to a current LTS release.Update manager showed the way on one desktop and I upgraded successfully.On another desktop and a laptop, update manager does not show that a new release is available. It's fair game to tell me to use the live cd so long as I preserve user data.

I just recently downloaded Ubuntu Netbook edition 10.10 to dual boot with my Windows 7. I successfully installed it and have both running, but it seems that the desktop version of Ubuntu is installed instead.

I get to the screen where I can choose the language and where I have the choice between "Try" or "Install". I choose Install. After that, I get to the screen about the preparation of the installation. It says I have enough disc space, that I'm successfly connected to the power and to the Internet. I click on next and... nothing happens! It stays for ever on that screen.

I just can't get my head around it.I own a Asus Eee Pc 1005HA it has roughly 160gb and is currently running WinXP. I'm trying to install the latest Netbook remix 10.04 onto the machine as a dual boot option.I've loaded the iso onto a usb drive and everything works perfectly. The problem is during installation. I can't work out how to set up the partitions for a dual boot option. Below is the current configuration on the system.

I am unable to install karmic on my dell inspiron1464 laptop. It has core i3 processor n 2 gb ram with windows7 already installed. I had installed karmic on my pc n it didn't gave any problem but when I am trying to install it on my laptop it is just showing the try ubuntu n install ubuntu options and when I select the option to install it is showing blank screen n after sometime even the cd stops working n I have to reboot again. View 9 Replies View RelatedI will say this now; I am still in high school, so forgive my stupidity. I am trying to install either 10.10 or 10.04 on a Dell 1525. It has no operating system on it, and the CD/DVD drive is nonexistent. I have tried to install 10.10 on it using a USB, with both UNetbootin and Pen Drive Linux. Using either one, both end up freezing at the "Preparing to Install" screen. When trying to install 10.04, it will not load, even after 24 hours. On the loading screen, I pressed F1 to view the terminal and got this output:

I had been running Fedora 12 for some time without much difficulty until I had to change the motherboard of the computer. The new MB comes with Realtek 8112L PCIe Gigabit LAN controller.I am not able to use this LAN controller without Network Manager. The problem is I am not able to set a static local IP with it. Network Manager -> Edit Connections -> Auto eth2 -> edit -> IPV settingsAs soon as I change Method to Manual, 'Apply' button gets grayed out.I am not able to save any change.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Mini 9 with a failed SSD. I created a bootable USB drive from the Ubuntu-10.10-netbook-i386.iso. It boots up the Dell Mini ok. If after selecting 'try ubuntu' from the Live USB and setting the desktop and wireless up, is there a way I could image that config on the same or different USB. It would be like installing Ubuntu 10.10 on a USB device instead of a HD. The Mini has 1G RAM.

Wanting to install conkemail via the .deb... it shows that a dependency is not fulfilled when the Ubuntu Software Center opens up... conkykeyring. So I downloaded the conkykeyring .deb, installed it. In the Conky Companions PPA area of "Installed Software" it does indeed now show that conkykeyring is installed. However, conkyemail still will not install and still shows the dependency is not satisfied.

So i select boot with removable disk, but then it just resumes to boot as windows as it normally does. View 2 Replies View RelatedI attempted a distribution upgrade from 8.04LTS (32 bit) to 10.04LTS (32 bit). Once converted, I had no wireless or wired internet, along with numerous other bugs. After relentless hours of trying to resolve the problems, I converted back to 8.04LTS and installed the b43 drivers; I have wireless, however, still no wired connection. I've provided the outputs of the "sudo lshw -C network" terminal command below both before conversion to 10.04 and after reversion back to 8.04LTS. You'll notice that the NIC is not even listed after reversion (this is the same output that 10.04LTS gave me as well).
1.) Does anyone know if the terminal command will identify the NIC if the NIC Driver (assuming it's tg3) is not installed?
2.) Does 8.04LTS and 10.04LTS have a pre-installed NIC driver that is not compatible with the bcm5705?

I've recently upgraded from 8.04LTS to 10.04LTS. About 90% of the time after boot-up, my mouse cursor seems to be corrupted; I can vaguely see the arrow (or part of it anyway) underneath some squiggly lines. The application KeePassX is affected too; there are some display corruption issues. Sometimes (maybe 1 boot in 10) the mouse cursor looks fine. I have a Radeon 9200 and have looked in the Forum for similar problems but they don't quite match up to mine.

The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

I am a first time Linux user - though I've Unix and Windows experience. So though I can follow your most tech instructions, I'll need some hand-holding.
Need help getting my wireless network to work on my newly installed Oracle Linux on Dell laptop.
Not sure what wireless card is installed, or it's mac address (though I can boot into windows and get that info, I don't want to - it'll be kind of a let down if I can't fix it all thru Linux).
Install has detected a Broadcom wired card, but not the wireless. Funny thing is that it detected the Bluetooth.
These problems just started the last couple of days but I have been using Lucid 10.04 for a month now. My wireless Signal varies in strength wildly. I sitting at home, not 20 feet from my router. I never had these problems before Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. I am running both Network Manager and Wicd.
Errors:
1. Wicd states "Wrong Password" which is not true.
2. Dropping off-line for no reason, sometimes 3 or 4 times a minute and sometimes it works fine for hours.
3. Firefox 3.6.3 Automatically Checking "Work Offline"!?
