I have installed mysql-server, but i have no access. I have set the password during installation process.

I set up a servber on my local machine, & also PHp - Both working fine.I'm trying to load up MYSQL i have installed it, & *can* start/stop the server. however if I do anything else with it, I get this error :-

b) set / RESET the 'root' username (I know MYSQL root user is different to PC root user)
c) anything else I can do on the PHP / website code to see if MYSQL is working
(as yet, no tables / databases etc have been set up - as I can't get past this error message - I get the same error when setting up a database.)
Ps I did allow my usermname (when logged in to ubuntu) to edit / create files in the /usr/www/ directory (but it is still OWNED by 'root' - that directory)
I am pulling my hair out once again after trying for over 15 months off and on to get a tv tuner working under linux. for some reason root lost grant privileges and I can't get it back. The user got grant_priv = 'Y' in the usertable. I've tried to reset all the priviliges to the user by killing MySQL process and started up again without grant options with no luck. I did something silly and changed my root user access for mysql access to Any from localhost using webmin. I get an access dented when i try to open up the mysql editing page on webmin. Can any of you tell me if there is a way to change it back to hosts=localhost I am using webmin 1.5.30 on Centos 5.5. I am hoping I can change it by command line or if I can access the config files and change it that way?

So I tried checking my password using mysql -u root -p and I get the same error as above. I've tried accessing mysql with skip grant tables disabling the need for a password so I could reset my root password. After going through the necessary steps I still get the error above when typing my password in for mysql.

i have edited /etc/mysql/my.cnf bind-address directive to a static ip address. then, i grant user@'%' access to database and restart mysql

So I'm attempting to get my system to not require the root password while still requiring some form of authentication. My current issue is getting yast2 and its components to ask for the user's password and not the root's.

As soon as I uncheck the "user must change ..." option, the user can log on without problems. Also password change via the passwd command works.
I have tried to not allow root access and have created a wheel user.
Now I can not logged in as root.

I am trying to install F11 on an IBM Netvista 8307. Everything works fine until I set the root password. When I click next, the installation just hangs. The DVD checks out as not having any errors. Not sure what to do. The installation was not locking up, it just took a long time to go to the next page.

I've followed the official instructions to install but seem to have a problem that I didn't have on F13 or Opensuse. Each time I try to access index.php on localhost I get a permission denied message and an SElinux alert. I have tried 7 different solutions on various forums and just can't view anything in a browser.
/var/www/html has been set to chmod 777
/var/www/html/index.php has also been set to chmod 777
A standard user can definitely read and write to the above files/folder. Until I commented it out the Welcome/Test page was working perfectly.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSuddenly Debian started rejecting my user pw and I have to login as root. Perhaps this is a coincidence, but this started when I re-booted after adding Russian keyboard layout in etc/default/keyboard. The Russian keyboard added successfully.
Being logged in as root, renewed the pw of my user account (actually assigned the same as wes previously), got confirmation the the pw has been changed. Reloaded. Yet it keeps complaining that the pw is wrong.
After updating my system yesterday my laptop will no longer connect to my wifi connection, in fact the network manager doesn't appear on the screen. I cant access super user even with the correct password. Some programs fail to load e.g. hardware drivers.I'm online now using my ethernet cable. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my webdav share. I have a secure webdav folder that gets accessed via a non-standard port and requires basic authentication. I can connect and interact with it fine via cadaver. However, when I try to connect from nautilus, it says "Access was denied." To make it even stranger, sometimes I can click on the folder in nautilus (it still mounts) and access it. Sometimes not (just repeats the error message and won't show me the contents). I may not even un-mount it, but just look at other folder, then click it again and be able to access it, but again - only rarely.
I asked a friend to try connecting from his windows vista computer and it would not work. It would not work from my windows XP virtual computer either. However, it mounts and works just find from my work computer (also Windows XP).
So it seems to be a 50/50 chance that the drive will mount on any given computer/system and work. Do anyone know what the problem may be? I'm guessing user permissions, but I can't figure out what.
I've made sure the webdav folder is owned by www-data and www-data has read access to the password file as well.

I no longer have access to my root desktop. On a session I attempted to change the root username but i apparently assigned it a wrong directory that does not exist. When I rebooted with my new root username, i was instead recognised as a simple user (no root privileges). I tried the console to change to "old" root but root password is not accepted and there is no way to access to sudoer files. it seems that inserting a new username requires root privileges and i am back to square one. Simply logging with old root username and password after restart gives me a blank screen with nothing on it and cannot even reboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving installed Debian 7 on an old machine from a Liinux Format Magazine DVD I was unable to log in as a specific user. I can login as root and use useradd etc but when I logout of root I still cannot login as a user and nor will the machine accept my root password. I have to shutdown and reboot to get back into root. I'm using O'Reilly's Linux Pocket Guide from 2004 for the commands. Could it be that things have changed?
