Dec 2, 2010I upgrades all 3 computers to 10.10 now I can't find software channeystems,Administration. Did it just get replaced as unneeded or is it hiding somewhere?

CentOS 5 :: Create Channels To Sync Yum Repos And Smart Channels?
Jun 24, 2010I've installed RPMforge and Smart Package Manager.
I had to create my own Centos 5.5 channels to sync yum repos and smart channels.
Here's the Centos 5.5 channel file for Smart:
Just shut Smart PM down, copy this file into /etc/smart/channels, and restart smart.
Smart should then detect the new channels (repos) for Centos 5.5
Update your channels in Smart, and you should then have yum repos and smart channels both in sync, looking at the same set of packages.
Copy this to CentOS-Base.channel, and add it to the /etc/smart/channels directory.

Ubuntu Installation :: Fetch Channels Button For SD Does Nothing?
Mar 16, 2010Right now I'm trying to get MythTV to bring in my channels. I can see all the channels when I use the Watch TV feature on the frontend, but in the backend I can't get it to work.
In the input COnnections>Television section, I am set up for Schedules Direct. My "Scan for Channels" button is disabled, so I can't use that. However, the "Fetch Channels" button, though enabled does nothing. It doesn't depress when I select it or anything. I can't figure out why. I know my username and password are entered correctly, so I'm drawing a blank.
My video source setup is also set with SD.
I have an Analog V4L capture card selected in the capture cards section. It's a AVI TV Wonder Pro (an old card, but free). It seems to be set up correctly since I can "Watch TV" with it.
In the channel editor, I also do not have the option to do a channel scan. It skips right over that button.
Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrading Stops At "setting New Software Channels"?
May 3, 2011ave a problem with upgrading to Natty. It stopped at 99% at "setting new software channels" and just did nothing for a long time, so I forced it to close. Now I have all the "natty" repositories in my software sources. Is it safe just to do "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" now? If not, what should I do? Trying to upgrade using the official updater always stops at 99% when "setting new software channels", even after rebooting.

Apr 11, 2011I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI [URL]
- Video resolution seems to change during video playback [URL]
- Channels cannot be found via DVB-S
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU
- 8 GByte RAM
- Biostar TA890GXE
- Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI)
- Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed
- Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
when I try to scan for any available satellite channels to use in Myth, I cannot find any channels. I have invoked "scan -V -l UNIVERSAL -s 1 -a 0 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E" with the following result:

Ubuntu :: DVB-t Card Installed But No Channels?
Jun 20, 2011I have a Yuan/Avermedia MC770 mini PCI hybrid card. When I installed ubuntu 11.04 for the first time it found an update for it automatically which I was quite happy about. I installed Me TV and thought so far it was all going quite well. connected it to a roof top aerial and it wouldn't find any channels what so ever Has ubuntu really found and installed the correct drivers? I tried VLC and Media player no result.

Ubuntu Security :: Can't Get Respond Through Normal Channels?
Apr 10, 2011I can't get respond through normal channels, all I can use is my phone. My keyboard is disabled. My PC is pretty much a paper weight. Both of them. The only way they could be getting in is through the wifi. I don't know if there is anything I can do. My recovery programsare not accessible. Even onstartup. Is it possible to clear the hard drive another way? I've heard fire purifies, I couldn't get another disc to boot up to reinstall ubuntu. Please text me any ideas, but please be specific with command lines, I have trouble with all the () and / [ and where they go.

May 14, 2011I was asking around in some IRC channels earlier trying to develop some thoughts on how NFS is better than CIFS. I set up a FreeNAS file server, and that's where all of my data now resides on a pair of raided drives. That way my main desktop, which is kind of a power hog gaming rig, can be powered off since I pretty much live on my laptop now. Anyway, I began to tinker with CIFS and NFS. Since some family members in the household use Windows, I definitely need CIFS. But I wanted to bounce back to NFS too and check it out.
While I do think it's nice I don't have to worry about authentication to the NAS box when using NFS, it's still a little scary. Being that it's more of a trust method instead of actual authentication, truthfully all a user needs to get into your data is the path to your NFS share and a matching UID. I mean, am I wrong by saying this? Sure, it may seem like NFS is convenient, but this angle of it is a little scary. I just don't feel like that screams "secure."
On the flip side, you have CIFS, which uses a user authentication level. So I hit my little shortcut to my NAS and it asks me who I am. I log in and bam, I have connection. I can browse other folders on the share, etc. This is convenient because I do have a "public" share on here with a generic user. That way if friends come over and want to transfer something to me, I have them drop it in the public share and I later transfer it accordingly. Since there is a user level authentication, this to me seems a little more secure.
Speed wise I was a little concerned, as some users have said NFS is faster than CIFS. Well, they might be right. But I did a few bench tests here on my laptop, using the same exact share except one with CIFS one with NFS. I stayed in the exact same location and transferred the same 300mb file in each instance.
NFS - 1.7mb/s
CIFS - 1.5/mb/s
Not exactly enough to warrant a huge argument over, so I leave that argument along the road to be forgot about since it doesn't really have any bearing on this situation. I like things about both NFS and CIFS. I just want to know why is it "not optimal" to use a full blown CIFS setup even if you're using 100% Linux systems.

Apr 11, 2010It doesn't matter if I set the audio to 5.1 or 7.1, the center and LFE are silent. I had the same problem in 9.10 but I could work around by using the alsamixer to set the center to 90%, quit, then set back to 100%. This doesn't work in 10.04 as the controls in the alsamixer can't be changed. Is there any way I can get the center channel working? All I can do at the moment is set the sound properties to 4.0 so that the center channel is automatically redistributed to the other channels, but that isn't a great solution.

Nov 9, 2010I had a look at No TV in Kaffeine, but I'm lost. I have an HDTV wonder card. I have installed dvb, ffmpeg, w32-codecs, etc. I am able to watch video/hear audio.
I have updated the scan data in kaffeine, adjusted device 1 tab to my area, but when I open the channels window and scan, it just goes through the motions and lists nothing. Here i partial output from:

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No Channels In KMix 4.6.0?
Mar 25, 2011KMix 4.6.0 in OpenSUSE 11.4 (x86) doesn't show up channels. It only shows "Internal sound Analog stereo" So I can't set the input/output channels and the headphone channel for my soundcard. The right soundcard drivers are installed (for Creative Sound Blaster Platinum Live Drive). Earlier versions of KMix worked just fine.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mythtv Frontend Can't Find Scanned Channels
Oct 21, 2010I can't get mythtv to play television with my Hauppauge HVR-850 tv card. I was able to view tv in mplayer, so I know that the card is working. The tv signal is broadcast only (no cable). I had to set the card type to DVB DTV capture card (v3.x) to get mythtv-setup to successfully scan. I was able to successfully scan both with a "full scan" and with a channels.conf file that I had generated earlier when tinkering tv in mplayer. Unfortunately, the mythtv frontend failed to play any live tv. It said "Error: MythTV is using all inputs, but there are no active recordings?"

Dec 8, 2010I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and it got really nice interface and is pretty user friendly, but I got an issue directed to sound. I have used Ubuntu 9 last time and had the same problems. So here are my problems: I got Realtek AC'97 ALC655 on-board sound card with 5.1 support and hardware mixing. By reading posts on google and this forums I got an idea it should work OOB but it won't.
The issues: *when I set the sound output to 5.1 + 1 stereo input it makes all the speakers work but act in weirdo way and testing the each speaker confuses me even more, because it's like(test=real sound source):
rearleft=subwoofer
rearright=center
center=frontleft
frontleft=rearright
frontright=rearleft
subwoofer=frontright. o.O
*the sound quality is crappy, it feels like it is old radio player because it requires some seconds for sound to 'condensate' and play normally with some crackles and other distortions.. And I'd like to also ask what sound system is mainly used in Ubuntu? Is it alsa,pulse or OSS? Since I can't find a way to see it.

Dec 17, 2010i am trying to list radio channels in Tunapie2 and it won't list anything. It will display TV stations, but not radio.
I removed the software and Re-installed it with the same problem. I even removed most files from my .tunapie folder under my home and just left prefs and favorites alone. I did this before re-installing the software.
Icecast works fine, but not Shoutcast Radio.

Hardware :: Applications Cannot Share Sound Channels?
Jun 14, 2009I have a strange problem with my sound. The best way to summarize the error is that no two applications can mix their output to the default output channel. When I start my computer, the first application to use to the default sound channel seems to have a lock on the channel. No other applications can use that channel until I reboot again. I can close the first application and still nothing can access that other channel.
When a second application tries to access the default channel one of two things happen. Most application's sound gets routed to the headphone channel. In other cases I get error messages that the device is busy. I suspect that this is a related issue, whenever I use the command line command 'play' I get the following error:

Now when I restart the drivers using "/etc/init.d/alsasound restart". All these problems are gone. So this is not a major issue, its just a little annoying. So a little information about my hardware/software:

Hardware :: HVR-1600 Unable To Find Channels
Aug 9, 2010I am running the current Mythdora and using the latest drivers and firmware todate, or at least what is listed on the HVR1600 wiki page. I can't lock on to any channels no matter what with this installation. Shouldn't it work after confirmation of drivers loaded and firmware upadated? Below I have outputed basic information. I did try a previous version of mythdora and it was able to find and lock to channels provided by my cable service, but had a bad driver so I updated everything.
Another person posted that he swaped pci slots with this tuner card and it worked. [URL]I think I am missing something. I also would add I have two coaxial inputs. Analog and Digital. I am currently using the TV one. I also did a cat /dev/video0 > ./Desktop/test.mpg and it was static. Does anyone have some ideas? I am all ears!
