I use Kaffeine Version 1.0-pre2 and xine 0.99.6 on Fedora 12 64-bit. If I try to watch HD-channels (such as Das Erste HD, ZDF HD, arte HD), there is no sound (or just a few seconds). I read some times, that setting the audio buffer to 750 and the video buffer to 1000 should solve the problem
I had a look at No TV in Kaffeine, but I'm lost. I have an HDTV wonder card. I have installed dvb, ffmpeg, w32-codecs, etc. I am able to watch video/hear audio.
I have updated the scan data in kaffeine, adjusted device 1 tab to my area, but when I open the channels window and scan, it just goes through the motions and lists nothing. Here i partial output from:
randolph@linux-jooj:~> scan /usr/share/dvb/atsc/us-NTSC-center-frequencies-8VSB scanning /usr/share/dvb/atsc/us-NTSC-center-frequencies-8VSB using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0' >>> tune to: 57000000:8VSB WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!
I`m using Fedora 11. I just bought a Creative Audigy Soundblaster sound card. It is recognized by the system, but I can`t make it play sound on all channels in xmms or mplayer. The alsa test confirms that all channels are working - I can hear sound from all of them. I have read several posts in other forums about modifying my ./asoundrc, but they just don`t seem to work.
I have worked the whole day to get an multimedia player that plays all format's. After trying vlc, realplayerGold, Xine, Kaffeine, Rhythmbox and Totem, I ended up at kaffeine.

It seems I can play at least an mpeg movie, and mp3. But I find the quality of sound of the mp3 in kaffeine very poor. Yes, it plays, but some mp3's are struggling the first 10 seconds or so,, eg, Shivers - Armin van Buuren. When I play the same mp3 in xmms, it plays like a charm. That's not what I want, I want an all-round multimedia player. Xine does the job very well,, like xmms,, and plays also the mpeg, but unfortunately, xine shows an error message about a segmentation fault, upon exiting xine. Any hint to play mp3 files in kaffeine like xmms does?
I've installed RPMforge and Smart Package Manager.
I had to create my own Centos 5.5 channels to sync yum repos and smart channels.
Here's the Centos 5.5 channel file for Smart:
Just shut Smart PM down, copy this file into /etc/smart/channels, and restart smart.
Smart should then detect the new channels (repos) for Centos 5.5
Update your channels in Smart, and you should then have yum repos and smart channels both in sync, looking at the same set of packages.
Copy this to CentOS-Base.channel, and add it to the /etc/smart/channels directory.
# CentOS-Base.repo # # The mirror system uses the connecting IP address of the client and the # update status of each mirror to pick mirrors that are updated to and
Only my 'front' sound output is working. No 'rear', 'side', or 'center'. And alsamixer only shows 'Master' 'PCM' & 'Capture' It's the onboard sound on a Asus M4A89TD PRO USB3 motherboard.

I have a strange problem with my sound. The best way to summarize the error is that no two applications can mix their output to the default output channel. When I start my computer, the first application to use to the default sound channel seems to have a lock on the channel. No other applications can use that channel until I reboot again. I can close the first application and still nothing can access that other channel.
When a second application tries to access the default channel one of two things happen. Most application's sound gets routed to the headphone channel. In other cases I get error messages that the device is busy. I suspect that this is a related issue, whenever I use the command line command 'play' I get the following error:
Quote:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c1008snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave play formats: can't open output file `default': cannot open audio device
Now when I restart the drivers using "/etc/init.d/alsasound restart". All these problems are gone. So this is not a major issue, its just a little annoying. So a little information about my hardware/software:
Motherboard: Asus M3N78-VM (onboard sound) Kernel Version: 2.6.27.23-0.1 Distro: openSuse 11.1 abridged output of /sbin/lspci: =============================== 00:07.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] High Definition Audio (rev a1)
I am having an issue with Kaffeine. It recognizes my DVB tuner fine and I can watch television but the only problem is that I have no sound. Videos play fine, in Kaffeine, I can see the picture and hear the sound, but when I view television, the sound is quiet. I think that there is some issue with unusual sound codecs being used here in New Zealand, as I had a lot of problems trying to play my recorded tv programs in other software, when I was a Windows user, I would often get the picture but no sound. Mythtv works fine for me, I get sound and picture no worries, it's just with Kaffeine I have the sound issues. The audio channel is greyed out, when I click on a channel and then click on edit. I suspect that this may mean that the sound codec that Freeview television uses, in New Zealand, may not be supported in Kaffeine.
I did a clean install of 11.3 and everything went good but i have a problem. There is no sound when i try to watch a movie in VLC, Kaffeine, SMPlayer and xine. But when i open the movie (.avi format) with Dragon player it plays as it should be. I have sound when i test the output in KDE system settings and i listen to music as i write this message. I tried with Xine and GStreamer output but the problem stays. I have all the multimedia codecs that are needed installed. Here is my repo list:
I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and it got really nice interface and is pretty user friendly, but I got an issue directed to sound. I have used Ubuntu 9 last time and had the same problems. So here are my problems: I got Realtek AC'97 ALC655 on-board sound card with 5.1 support and hardware mixing. By reading posts on google and this forums I got an idea it should work OOB but it won't.
The issues: *when I set the sound output to 5.1 + 1 stereo input it makes all the speakers work but act in weirdo way and testing the each speaker confuses me even more, because it's like(test=real sound source):
*the sound quality is crappy, it feels like it is old radio player because it requires some seconds for sound to 'condensate' and play normally with some crackles and other distortions.. And I'd like to also ask what sound system is mainly used in Ubuntu? Is it alsa, pulse or OSS? Since I can't find a way to see it.
I have noticed a few threads on getting sound to work properly. I had a problem getting my internal sound card to work on 5.1 channels and investigated the links and information given in the various threads and found that there are slight differences from the references to what I had to do. Firstly, it's a good idea to read through these links first.
I am using ubuntu karmic. I log into gnome, but I have kaffeine installed. I find I can't play videos with mp4a mpeg4 audio in kaffeine. The video plays fine, but their is no sound. When I use vlc it plays fine and the codec information reveals mp4a.
I think it might be related to xine as the phonon backend is xine. I try opening the file in xine, and there is also no video. When I try to change the phonon backend to gstreamer, there is no sound for anything. I have libxine1-ffmpeg, libmpeg4ip-0, and libfaad0 installed, though I dunno if they affect this.
I want to use kaffeine rather than vlc because I want to use kaffeine for dvb viewing and recording. In my area, it seems they are broadcasting mp4a instead of mpeg2 or what not.
Have installed mythtv to kbuntu (32 bit) and configured the backend with HDHomerun and receive video but no sound The ] key brings op the volume bar but sits at 0 and will not adjust. However caffeine and he HDhomerun conf GUI viewer play the video and sound perfectly.
setting up the backend I never saw an entry for alsa or mixer, it appears somethimg is missing there for HDHomerun, although those are present when I added an entry for a Hauppauge 950Q USB tuner. Can not get this source to work as yet so have not seen the sound problem there.
The speaker test speaker-test -c 2
also works as do the login/logout sounds and the test in system settings/multimedia.

I've installed openSuse 11.3 recently and the sound card is ok because I can play audio with KsCD but there's no sound at all with any of the other players or browsers. Video now is ok after installing Packman Repository etc, but still no sound.
I have HDMI sound enabled by default in System Configuration (Music, Movies and System Sounds), but the only multimedia application that uses it is DragonPlayer. (System Sounds work fine also)Kaffeine still wants to use my INTEL card as does Amarok; VLC Player just complains that my AlsaLib file isn't up to date.I am running opensuse 11.3, KDE 4.5.90 (4.6 RC1) Kernel 2.6.34-7-0.5-desktop sound is outputting to a Samsung 42" 1080p TV.
Sound/Video card is an ATI RV710 (Radeon HD 4350). What does DragonPlayer do that the other three applications do not?How can I configure Kaffeine and VLC to output via the HDMIAlso since doing a system update to KDE 4.5.90 my screen blanks every ten minutes, I have tried to disable screen saver and screen power save in power management, however still i can't stop the system blanking every 10 minutes any clues? Finally DragonPlayer is now crashing after every video has finished playing before i can start the next
I have just installed 11.4 64bit and duly followed the sticky guide for getting the required multimedia files installed. I find I have a problem with playing audio cd's the only program which will play an audio cd is Kaffeine but it does not play properly - it plays a few bars then silence, plays a few bars then silence and I can find no way of getting it to play without interruption. There are no sound problems with Kaffene when using it to play digital tv or dvd films. I have tried KsCD, Amarok, Mplayer, SMPlayer, and GNOME MPlayer none of which can I get to play a CD. With Amarok there does not appear to be a setting to play a CD as soon as it is put in the drive it would appear that you have to generate a playlist first, I can show the list of tunes on the CD but that's a far as it goes they will not add to a playlist or play.
Have just found the player Clementine which apparently is based on Amarok. Although not providing a direct play facility I was able to load the cd to the playlist then play the tunes. This may be a clue to my problems in that I noticed that it had to mount the player first. Is there a setting for auto mounting?Ideally I would like to put an audio cd in my player and have it play automatically without me having to do anything. Is this facility available in 11.4 and if so which program do I need to install?
I am using a Sparklan WUBR-505N abgn USB dual band stick for the wireless connection on one of my Fedora 12 laptops. I have an Apple Airport Extreme BaseStation that can advertise a 5GHz connection ie it broadcasts two sids... The network manger only see the 'regular' sid and the usb stick only connects in the 2.4GHZ frequencies. Does the rt2870 driver support the 5GHz frequencies? If so how can I force a 5GHz connection?
I can't get Kaffeine to start. So i tried to run it from Konsole and I get this Code: kaffeine: relocation error: /usr/lib/libphonon.so.4: symbol pa_ext_device_manager_read, version PULSE_0 not defined in file libpulse.so.0 with link time reference
I updated / installed phonon Pulse. Now when I insert a DVD and select Kaffeine. I get this error: Cannot find input plugin for MRL [dvd:/] Now I have no sound.
I had a fully working fc12 using Kaffeine to get DVB-T using a Nova T-500. After installing and updating latest fc13 (and Kaffeine) I cannot get it to see the TV. It has scanned Ok and the TV card is detected OK in warm state. As I also had no sound I looked at the differences in the sound GUI between my fc12 and 13.
Kaffeine is detected in fc12 but not shown in fc13.
Just tried Totem Movie Player and tried to tune the DVB-T but it gives a gnome DVB failure, so my problem is in fc13/Gnome.
Could someone advise me as wht I can try so that I can continue using Fedora?
i have a skystar 2.6d card.i set everything in Kaffeine and when i search the channels it finds some but when i click on the channel to watch it nothing appears.even in properties of selected channel the frequency is showed up something else. For example the freq of channel Y is 12345 but in the properties of the channel it shows 57329 without any video pid and audio pid.
I have a Kaiser Baas DVB tuner, which is a USB device.I've installed the firmware, and dmesg tells me the firmware is loading. The wee red light tells me the tuner is operating.I'm running Fedora 11, and I've installed kaffeine, which recognizes there's a DVB device running. But when I do a channel scan (which I've tried using a couple of local sources and the AUTO option), I don't see any channels. I've tried various filter options, no joy.Using the supplied Windows software, a scan gives me about 20 digital channels.
I just installed F15 new, and I wonder what packages do I need to install to play movies with restricted codecs? I thought I have everything what I installed last time with F14 but I can't play my movies in Kaffeine. I have rmpfusion and the packages gstreamer-plugins-bad-free gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-ugly, and all other gstreamer-* packages.
KMix 4.6.0 in OpenSUSE 11.4 (x86) doesn't show up channels. It only shows "Internal sound Analog stereo" So I can't set the input/output channels and the headphone channel for my soundcard. The right soundcard drivers are installed (for Creative Sound Blaster Platinum Live Drive). Earlier versions of KMix worked just fine.
I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI [URL] - Video resolution seems to change during video playback [URL] - Channels cannot be found via DVB-S
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU - 8 GByte RAM - Biostar TA890GXE - Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI) - Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed - Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
when I try to scan for any available satellite channels to use in Myth, I cannot find any channels. I have invoked "scan -V -l UNIVERSAL -s 1 -a 0 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E" with the following result:
Code: scanning /usr/share/dvb/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0' initial transponder 12551500 V 22000000 5 >>> tune to: 12551:v:1:22000
I have a Yuan/Avermedia MC770 mini PCI hybrid card. When I installed ubuntu 11.04 for the first time it found an update for it automatically which I was quite happy about. I installed Me TV and thought so far it was all going quite well. connected it to a roof top aerial and it wouldn't find any channels what so ever Has ubuntu really found and installed the correct drivers? I tried VLC and Media player no result.
Right now I'm trying to get MythTV to bring in my channels. I can see all the channels when I use the Watch TV feature on the frontend, but in the backend I can't get it to work.
In the input COnnections>Television section, I am set up for Schedules Direct. My "Scan for Channels" button is disabled, so I can't use that. However, the "Fetch Channels" button, though enabled does nothing. It doesn't depress when I select it or anything. I can't figure out why. I know my username and password are entered correctly, so I'm drawing a blank.
My video source setup is also set with SD.
I have an Analog V4L capture card selected in the capture cards section. It's a AVI TV Wonder Pro (an old card, but free). It seems to be set up correctly since I can "Watch TV" with it.
In the channel editor, I also do not have the option to do a channel scan. It skips right over that button.
i installed Ubuntu 9.10 and it seems i can't have 5.1 sound playing, i've searched a lot but i still haven't found a solution to my problem. tried to change the default channels from 2 to 6, as well as the default-channel-map and much more but still nothing works..
I have installed mythbuntu 10.04 and installed my tv tuner (saa7130). I can play games on composite but cannot scan for tv cannels. how i can scan for channels because he cannot find a single channel (I think this is weird) ?
