Ubuntu Installation :: Where Downloaded OpenOffice Associated Package Saved
Jan 23, 2011
I am a newbie to Ubuntu. I have installed Ubuntu STudio 10.04 Lucid, and to install Open Office, I have chosen the below method:
1. Went to System-->Administration-->Synaptic Package manager.
2. Here, I chose Open Office Package and marked something, which I now dont remember.
3. Download of the associated packages have been completed, but it is not installed. Around 99 mb is downloaded, but I am not sure where it is saved.
The problem is that, it is not yet installed. After the download, it behaved like it was installing, I waited, but of no use. How to install the same and where the downloaded packages sit in the system?

after the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?

Interested in trialing Varkon and used Synaptic Package Manager to download and install. According to the [url]...nstalling.html it should be there under 'Applications'. I've looked through them all and no sign of Varkon. I've also tried to see if Varkon was installed so I looked via Ubuntu Software Center under installed software. No sign. Did a file search for Varkon.

I am having problems installing the OOO_3.2.1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz install package from openoffice.org. When I unpack the tar.gz file, I get another folder labeled OOO320_m18_native_packed-1_en-US.9502, which as a folder named DEBS that has number of .deb files. How do I install the mentioned file or files? I would like to use the download for installation, so I can get the updated version of OpenOffice, and not use the Ubuntu repository.

I recently came back to Ubuntu after a long hiatus. In the last week I've installed and re-installed 10.10 several times getting things the way I want them. Although I've installed on 3 different machines and updated them all almost completely, I'm having a problem downloading the package "openoffice.org-core" On every install on all 3 machines it stops at exactly 20.5 MB out of 27.3 Is anyone else having this problem? I'm thinking it is an issue with the repo, unless someone can think of something I'm possibly missing. This problem has been continuous over the last week, isn't a temporary connection issue.

I am trying to install a brand new installation of Opensuse 11.3 on a PC. I am using the Gnome desktop. When installing I get SO many errors saying "YAST2: package "xxx" could not be downloaded" or "installation of package "xxx.rpm failed." Ignore, Abort Retry.
I ran a checksum on the iso I downloaded from this site and it checks out. What is going on?

I am new to Ubuntu, but have been using it (and falling in love with it) for the past month. However, I have hit a snag: I have been trying to install a new program, but cannot due to an issue with openoffice.org-emailmerge. Whenever I try to install something, apt-get freezes when it tries to update because it cannot update emailmerge. After a bit of googling to try to fix it, I decided just to remove the program. However, but I get the following message (if I use Synaptic, it freezes):
[Code]...
I can't do work until I install R and I can't install anything until this is fixed!

I have slackware64-13.0 & xfce. I installed somebody's openoffice package ( a repackaging of the rpms), openoffice.org-3.2.0_en_US-x86_64-1_rlw.txz and ran into crazy keyboard issues, double inserts of random keys when I type faster than a snail's pace liikee tthiis. I had errors from xkbcomp rolling off the screen.

I have dowmloaded the latest version of Gnome Nanny, but have run into an instal problem at the first hurdle:
I have extracte the folder to Documents: Cd/ to the folder and run the ./configure command and get this message: No package 'pygtk-2.0' found
I have checked the install files and edited the lines which contain the above to now read pygtk -2.0 >=2.8 as 2.8 is the version of python I have installed. In package manager it only goes back to v2.2.
How I can get around this error?
Running Ubuntu 9.1 karmic Koala.

So I tried out Libreoffice and want to revert back to Openoffice for the time being. I uninstalled Libreoffice from ubuntu software center and now I can't reinstall openoffice from USC. i get this error:
" Package dependencies cannot be resolved: This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. " does anyone have a way of fixing this? edit: i've tried sudo apt-get install openoffice.org in terminal but it didn't work as well (i'm total noob)

I am really looking for something like the MicroSquish Font "Monotype Corsiva". I am currently using a LiveCd of Ubuntu 9.04.

I have recently switched email pop3 client to Sylpheed. I need to import a large address book. When using the feature "Import comma delimited File", Sylpheed seems to carry out the operation and then crashes, closing. The new address file is not saved.
I see that this is a known bug in this version of Sylpheed, so I tried to install a later version. The latest version in the repository is 2.4.8-2, but versions exist upto 2.7.1.I tried to install this from the tar.gz file, but could find no effective instructions and no easy way to do this. Part of the problem seems to be that later Sylpheeds are written for versions of Ubuntu later than 8.04.So which way do I jump? Try to fix the 2.4.8 version? Or try to find a way to install 2.7.1?

Is the "saved" option for grub2 not available after the new upgrade?I had grub2 setup to let me load either windows or ubuntu, whichever I last used, and it worked. After the last update to Ubuntu I cannot get this to work anymore. I can successfully change the default boot entry by entering a number, e.g. "GRUB_DEFAULT=3" but when I put in"GRUB_DEFAULT=saved" it always defaults to the first entry, the latest Ubuntu. I can also change the screenresolution for the grub menu on this computer, but on another computer I cannot change the screen resolution for grub or restore the 'saved' option (I have not tried to change the boot default by numbers on this other computer though). I am only editing /etc/default/grub and running update-grub, is there another script or file I should be changing as well since the update?

Where are Driver & Machine Confirgurations Saved Ccomputer?
I just started using Ubuntu over the last several months and almost have it setup the way I need and want. I understand that a new version comes out every 6months or so and plan on upgrading when it comes out. I would like to be able to reformat and install the latest version, but retain all of my preferences, programs, device drivers, etc. so that it's all ready for the new version of Ubuntu. Up to date, I have spent so much time changing setting, finding drivers that fit and installing them that I don't want to start over with this.
How can I do this? I have made a seperate partition for /home. Will this help or is this folder only for to save my personal files?

I've been running my Dell Mini 9 with the latest alpha for 10.04 since January, but over the weekend I botched things pretty badly and decided to go back to 9.10.I saved my home directory to another machine, and proceeded to install from a 9.10 USB disk. Things didn't go terribly well (I kept seeing "devkit-disks-daemon" crashing) but the install did complete. I shutdown the netbook, yanked the USB drive and powered it back on only to be greeted the grub menu. Choosing any option yields: Code:error: out of memoryPress any key to continue...I did a little searching in places like:HTML there is no mention of that problem there, and running though the command line instructions has the same results. (the linux command seems to be the problem)I've tried re-installed grub from the directions on the page but it is failing with:
Code:
cp: cannot stat '/mnt/boot/grub/ufs1.mod': Input/output error
When I look up that file I see:

Recently I installed airlines-themes, using the command
Code: sudo aptitude install airlines-theme It worked perfectly. My question is where are all these packages downloaded locally, so that if needed I can install them later without an Internet connection. Not just theme, I can do it for other application as well (for eg. ubuntu tweak and many others).
