I have no wireless problems with 9.10. I upgraded via synaptic package manager to 10.04, and the only things that seems to be off is my wireless. It sees my network, other networks, ect, but it won't connect. I can get a wired connection no problem, but thats not the point of a netbook

I just upgraded to 13.37, and for some reason wicd now cannot connect to my wireless point. It keeps saying the password is wrong, when I know for an absolute fact that it is correct (even changed the password to '1' just to make sure, and no dice. Which is weird because even though its the exact same version of wicd, and not only that, it no longer seems to be able to see networks with my built in card, so having to use a USB card. Anyway, googling turned up very little. Seems to be a common problem across distros, and some people reported that downgrading to 1.6.x fixes it.
So, I ran

And it uninstalled wicd. Downloaded wicd-1.6.2.1-x86_64-1.txz from a 13.0 mirror and did

While in the correct directory. It installed, and I ran wicd. But checking the version number when it loaded, it says its 1.7.0 again.
Not really sure why this happens. I'm assuming there's some remnant of wicd that removepkg doesn't dump, and its preventing me from installing this older version of wicd. What do I need to do for this? If anyone has a surefire way to make 1.7 work again, that would be fine.
I have kernel 2.6.26 and I think I need 2.6.27, but update manager says my system is up-to-date. How do I get an upgraded kernel? I have a wireless card but I cannot find anything in the UI to enable it, or connect to my home net. Would Debian come with a connection manager with an oddball name?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded Ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04 but I was unable to connect to the internet. I have a ppp connection and I used to make a DSL connection and then give the command 'sudo pon ppp0' and the net got connected but in Karmic Koala it just doesnt click. I switched back to 8.04 and its working fine with 'Roaming mode enabled'. There is no problem with my connection. And also if it gave some problems then I used to delete all the connections I made and then reboot and then 9.04 would make a connection by itself but 9.10 doesnt. I installed 9.10 within windows using wubi. Please help as to how should I connect to internet in 9.10? I am attaching the ppp0 file so u may suggest the right connection for me if I am wrong.

I enter the proper password and it searches again, but never connects. Here's the strange thing: Using latest 2.6.32.21-generic kernel, wifi will not connect. But, when I boot with 2.6.31.20-generic, wifi works fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe upgrade actually went pretty well, except for what looks like a new "feature" to mysql-server-5.1. But I post here, because the issue seemed to be in "/etc/hosts" file. If it should really be somewhere else, feel free to move it. The problem is that I don't understand what this means. What potential problems do I have without a "127.0.1.1"? Or could this have been effected by some change to the "users" table in mysql? This mythtv server "musem" is my main machine, and is being remotely accessed by the Linux box next to my TV.

But I now have no wired or wifi internet connectivity on either of my ubuntu 10.10 systems. I tested it on my work laptop which uses Window and it works fine for wired and wifi.
With 10.10 I no longer have a network icon upper right panel to check, so not sure how to set up wireless. Both machines have static IP addresses and are able to ping each other but there is no internet connection on either.
I just upgraded my Ubuntu to 11.04 and now my wireless does not work, nor can I see the available networks. I use Dell inspiron N4010 64-bit with dual bootup with Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded to Maverick but now I cannot get my wireless card working. In Lucid it didn't work out of the box, but worked perfectly by wrapping the Windows driver with ndiswrapper.
I noticed when I installed Maverick that wireless is enabled in Network-Manager and it gives me the option to create a wireless network or connect to a hidden network but it's not discovering/showing any of the wireless networks in range! So it seems as though the card is being recognized but the driver isn't working fully...? I tried wrapping the windows drivers, but that didn't change the situation at all.

I've just installed Ubuntu. My house isn't wired so I use wireless on all my machines to connect to the internet. When I start up Ubuntu, I can connect to my wireless router. After about 3 minutes, I get disconnected. It refuses to reconnect for several minutes. If I disable and reenable networking, I can establish a connection again, but the process is repeated. I'm not really sure what the issue is here. Any guesses? This is a desktop and I'm using a Belkin wireless adapter.

I'm at wits end...10.04 won't connect to a wireless network on my laptop, and that sort of makes it useless. What is the easiest way to revert back to 9.10? I have a dual-boot system with XP and I'd rather not have to start from scratch.

I'm unable to connect to the internet through any wireless connections, nor through an ethernet cable. I installed the latest weekly image of Debian squeeze. After installation, I found myself on the command line. I installed gnome with
apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment I also tried installing gnome-applets, gnome-netstatus-applet, and gnome-nettool, but I guess they were already installed. When I open System > Administration > Network in Gnome, there's no connections tab in the Network Settings application.

I'm one of those people migrating from Ubuntu and in Ubuntu I had to add a 'rfkill -unblock all' command to my rc.local file for this laptop. Not sure if that's relevant, but thought more info couldn't hurt.
I am quite new in Linux and start trying by using Fedora. I installed Fedora 10 on an old PC. I installed once and Fedora 10 recognized my wireless USB finger. Well after some setting but I cannot recall teh exact details. Due to certain reasons, I have to re-install Fedora 10. However, this time the wireless device is not working (The system recognized it and the driver is working ok but not able to connect to the access point and I caanot find a place to check the available wireless network list. I used WEP password protection so need to see the network list and select the network for prompt of the password entry.)

I tried again last night after installing updates to 2.6.35-22. Still no luck.I gave up since this was much like what happened a week ago and I couldn't find any solutions then. (I ran memtest then.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe software manager has been nagging me to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 for some time now. I finally gave in and clicked on Upgrade. After the upgrade completed, my computer won't start. It just flashes Ubuntu for a split second and goes to a black screen. I happen to have the 10.04 CD from Canonical, and I tried that, and it won't launch the installer either; just a logo and a black screen. Since I can't even get to the terminal to diagnose and fix whatever's wrong, I'm installing 9.10 from the CD that I ordered from Canonical a long time ago. I went through all the graphical options just like the first time I installed 9.10, and it's in the process of installing right now.
I don't really have time to futz with it because I need my laptop for when I go and visit my mum for Thanksgiving. Maybe I'll try after the holidays if I can get some feedback on what might have gone wrong with 10.04.

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.
Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.

I have a 10.04 installation upgraded from 9.10 somewhere around the first beta.However, since a couple weeks I have the problem that I cannot use nano anymore.

I've tried to do apt-get remove nano then installed but stil the same,Even tried apt-get purge but with no avail.
I upgraded 9.10 to 10.04 and now it won't boot. The way 9.10 used to boot was after turning on the computer it would go through the bios screen and then a screen would come up and list both operating systems, Windows Xp and Ubuntu. XP would be highlighted and would normally boot if I did not change the highlighted area. If I changed the highlighted area to Ubuntu it would boot into Ubuntu 9.10. Now after doing the upgrade, it gets to the same screen with the two operating systems listed.
When I change the highlighted to Ubuntu an error message is briefly displayed and then it goes back to the screen that lists both operating systems. I think the error message says something like couldn't find Ubuntu, or something similiar to that. Windows XP runs fine when I highlight Windows XP in that first screen, but I want to be able to run Ubuntu. I have Ubuntu on a secondary drive, but shouldn't it have rewritten the upgraded files on that same drive that had 9.10 on it?
I upgraded the Ubuntu 10.04, and afterwards I can't print. Cups won't detect printers, hp-setup won't, hp-probe won't. Tried rebooting, reinstalling HPLIP, & CUPS. Installed latest version of HPLIP. did a purge of HPLIP and CUPS, and reinstalled, rebooted.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had upgraded to 10.04 but can not use kernel 2.6.32-22.32+, I had to go back to kernel 2.6.31-21. because of the default video driver had change from the one kernel to the other, and I do not know how the correct it. In 2.6.32-22 the font would change and to a smaller size and I can barely view anything because it looks like some two year old puke a box of crayons all over the screen.
Second issue is it does not matter what power-saving mode I am in, in 5 minutes time it with go into suspension. Or right after coming out of hibernate, it will go into suspension indefinitely and no coming out of it and must to a hard boot.
