Ubuntu Installation :: Selective Upgrade From 10.04 To 10.10?

Oct 12, 2010

I want to upgrade to 10.10, but on the update manager it says it's gonna install 179 new packages that I don't want/neeed (such as open office that takes too much space), so I'm wondering if theres a way to select which one of the new packages I want to install, instead of all of that?

Ubuntu :: Selective Print Not Working In Document Viewer

Jan 7, 2010

I'm new to Linux and Ubuntu, but have started migrating as I like what I see. However, I found a problem with Document Viewer. After downloading and viewing a PDF, when I try to print either the current page or a page range, it insists on printing the full document. I could not find this bug documented anywhere. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 with the latest fixes etc.

Ubuntu :: Preserving Multiboot Setup On Selective Reinstall?

Sep 14, 2010

I've set up a multiboot with XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Ubuntu 10.04.1, installed in that order in five individual partitions on a single hard drive (fifth is for the Ubuntu swap area). Everything is working well: On boot, the GRUB menu comes up first, with the usual Ubuntu choices and "Windows 7 (loader)". When I select that last option, I'm then given the Windows boot menu that allows "Earlier Version of Windows", "Windows 7", and "Microsoft Windows Vista". They all boot properly, and I don't mind having to use the second menu. I would like to reinstall XP (only) to the same partition it now occupies. I suspect this will mess up my current booting scheme, correct? Is there a way I can prevent this, by saving the GRUB configuration or whatever?

Networking :: Selective Dns Server Depending On User?

configure which dns the system will consult depending on which user iniciated the request. My goal would be, if user "peter" is logged in and has opened the browser, that requests for name solves from that user goes to certain/s dns server/s. And if user "anne" is logged and request name resolution, that request should be done to another dns server. To say it briefly, the idea would be configure selective dns server use depending on system users.

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Upgrade - Error "Could Not Calculate The Upgrade"

May 29, 2010

I can't upgrade. I get: Quote: Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: The package 'skype-common' is marked for removal but it is in the removal blacklist.

This can be caused by:

* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

This is most likely a transient problem, please try again later. I tried again several times in different days and it is the same. I have 10.4 recently updated from my original installation of 9.10. I think it was not a pre-release, I did it automatically from the website and it took a long time. As far as I know, all I have installed is official, except perhaps Skype itself.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade Installation Error - Could Not Install '/var/cache/apt/archives/libc6_2.10.1-0

Mar 23, 2010

I was trying to update from 9.04 to 9.10.

During the installation, I kept getting tons of errors. Finally something came up saying that I had to abort the installation and it did some stuff. I tried running an application, but I got an error. So I restarted the system.

The normal screen came up where I had to choose the Ubuntu stuff (I'm new to Ubuntu) in the box. I noticed that it had gone to 8.10... which I had earlier before installing 9.04, which went great. So I chose the first on and the system failed to start. I rebooted and tried all the other options, but they all had errors. Now I'm booted to Windows.

I installed Ubuntu from a CD I created. But it is now outdated because it is 8.10, and I have already upgraded to 9.04. 9.04 to 9.10 is where stuff went wrong.

Fedora Installation :: 10 Upgrade / Installation Failing On Presario F700 Laptop

May 29, 2009

I've tried to upgrade my FC8 on Presario F700 series laptop to FC 10 and facing some issues. I've a live CD (i386). Initially i tried upgrading FC 8 to FC 10 and installation was stuck around 30% completion saying its unable to fins libdbi-0.8.3-1.fc9.i386.rpm. Then I tried to install FC 10 from scratch as system went to inconsistent state and faced two issues with two different setup options -

1) when i selected necessary software to be installed for office use and development, it failed after installing 20% saying libgnomeui-devel-2.24.0-2.fc10.i386.rpm

2) i then opted for for software to be installed for office use (default option) then it failed after installing around 50% saying libXrandr-1.2.3-1.fc10.i386.rpm

im trying to understand if this is a problem due to my laptop configuration (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Duel Core) or due to issue with the live CD.
