Ubuntu :: Libre Office Documents Shut Down Without Warning
May 25, 2011When I use libre office my documents will suddenly shut down and then I have to go into recovery to get then back. How can I stop this? Any ideas?

Mar 28, 2011I just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).
QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.

Apr 22, 2011I have both installed, but since LO is going to be the way Ubuntu goes for office applications, can I easily have my system setup for native LO? Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? I looked for file associations and didn't find it.

May 7, 2011just downloaded meerkat wich comes with Libre Office. I tried to download the help file from Inkscape and that works fine. But when I tried to print it out, only text appears on the paper together with the frames for the pictures. What am i doing wrong or is it a bug.? Never had troubles with Open Office.

Oct 13, 2009Offlate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.
Machine specifications:
Maker: Toshiba
Model: Satellite L305D-S5881
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile Processor RM-70
3072 MB 800 MHz SDRAM
I don't want to open up my machine unnecessarily, if it isn't a hardware issue.
I am not sure how to verify the bit length of the machine and the OS and does it create a compatibility issue ?
Your advise would be highly appreciated.

Ubuntu :: Libre Office Fails To Start
Jun 29, 2011Libre Office apps will not start from the unity panel. When clicked the splash screen appears, disappears and nothing else happens.
From the terminal

opens and works normally.
Same with the other apps in office. Anyone know the fix please?

Jul 8, 2011Okay so I have a file that I always save and close properly and get in my Ubuntu One folder for backup that will not open. Its called "Income.ods" and is quite important and I cannot seem to recover it. When I double click it, it shows the Libre Office Calc splash screen shows up then goes away and the nothing, no error messages, no nothing. I tried to open it on my Windows Vista machine and it said it was corrupted and could not open in Office Word. I tried a few recovery tools but to no avail.

Aug 6, 2011I have Ubuntu 10.10 and Open Office 3.2.1. I guess that this problem may affect Libre Office too, but I will be happy to be proved wrong about that. I am editing a document that was originally produced in Microsoft Word (the standard .doc format). It is a form produced by a national organisation and it has to be sent back to them, and when submitted it has to be no longer than two A4 pages. It contains a series of headings and (expanding) text boxes for content.
In order to be sure about the length, I did most of the editing with Microsoft Word on my wife's laptop. On that machine, and on a PC that has a different version of Word, the document fits exactly within the two-page limit. But on my laptop, using Open Office, it appears considerably longer, taking up two-and-a-half pages. Why is this, and can anything be done to correct it? Open Office appears to be using the same fonts as Microsoft Word - the font names are the same, anyway - and the font sizes are the same, yet the text appears to take up more of the page display.

Apr 11, 2011I am facing a severe problem on many Desktop PC's, whenever an employee is working in Gnome-Open-Office.org document (i.e. Wordprocessor, SpreadSheet, or any other Gnome-office application) and due to power outage after restarting, the previously open document either does not open or it shows a recovery dialogue after clicking on recovery button or clicking on cancel in either case document contain nothing (empty). The file size of the document is either 0kb or within few Kbs range.
Any one have any idea about it ? what to do ?? or any other alternative which is already tested in such environment (i.e. electricity failure )? or any options to be turned on/changed?

Dec 25, 2009How can I change the mountpoint of my partition /media/documents to /documents.This is a partition of sdb and a fixed disk.The reason is that /media/ sometimes creates ghostdirectories while /Windows/C never does so, programmes writing/reading from this partition therfore don't work if a ghostdir_ exists.(BTW Suse is on sdb5 and sdb6. on sda is windows and used to be Ubuntu, the Suse-swap is sda5. Windows is out of use.)
