Ubuntu :: GRUB Error 22 \ Install Via Wubi, But Had To Format Partitions (can't Do It On Wubi )?

Nov 27, 2010

I wanted to install ubuntu via wubi, but i had to format my partitions (can't do it on wubi ) so i used a crappy program(i don't remember the name) to get rid of Backtrack4 , because i wanted windows kept for my mom.So, that was the sorry, i've ended up with a GRUB error 22, and a Backtrack4 CD stuck in my DVD-rom.So my question is: Can somewone tell me how to fix error 22? (i've seen some methods online, but i obviously can't put a Windows CD in my DVD rom because the Backtrack4 DVD is stuck in there.

Ubuntu Installation :: Wubi Install 10.10 X64 - Error

Jan 7, 2011

I understand this is a common problem but i can't seem to find a solution for it other than use gparted to partition your hard drive and install directly to the hard drive.

I am trying to load 10.10 through the wubi installer. I want to install the 64 bit version of ubuntu. My windows OS is 64 bit as well.

I download the wubi online and when i run it i get through the first step of picking how large i want the hard drive and my sudo password. I click next and it goes to download the 10.10 x64 ISO. After about 10 sec a firewall alert comes up and i say allow then right after that the wubi crashes and i get an error log that i will post below saying i dont have permissions. Ive also tried using the right click "run as administrator" option on the wubi from windows 7.

Ive also tried downloading the ubuntu 10.10 x64 desktop iso. i extracted it using winrar then ran the wubi that comes with that and i get the same issue. I find it funny that when your run the wubi from the install disk it still downloads another copy of the iso instead of asking for its location on your hard drive.

I like the concept of the wubi and i had previously installed 10.04 through the wubi and loved it. I had an issue with 10.04 after doing a lot of tweaking and I simply wanted to just remove it and install 10.10 fresh. I'm strictly using ubuntu for experimental and learning purposes so i dont want to install it directly to my hard drive.

Ubuntu :: While Installing Wubi It Starts Downloading ISO - Why

Mar 22, 2011

I mean, I have the latest version of ISO (Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat) downloaded on my computer and then i) made a startup USB disk using Ubuntu's built-in startup disk creator and ii) created a bootable CD drive with that downloaded ISO. Then whenever I tried installing it inside Windows*, I notice that the installer (Wubi) begins downloading the entire ISO from the Internet. I tried disconnecting the network but that returns an error and the installation stops. I remember my good days with installing Ubuntu Karmic Koala using Wubi on my computer. It never started downloading.

The problem appears to occur with Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 and 11.04 (I don't care about Natty yet, though). I want to know why this happens. Since the entire ISO is here, why would it want to download the entire ISO from the Internet? It's impossible to let it download. Is there any possible solution to this problem? The reason I'm trying to install Ubuntu inside windows is that I don't want to mess with Grub. My brother installed Ubuntu on his hard drive in a separate partition and when he uninstalled it for some reason, he couldn't log in to Windows because grub was there and MBR was missing.

Ubuntu Installation :: LiveCD Starts Installation By Itself And Stops At Error / Fix It/

Jun 30, 2010

A friend of mine has asked me to install Ubuntu for a long time. Today I set up his partitions with Lucid LiveCD and GParted.

However, the LiveCd throws an error that makes me hesitant to continue.

If I boot a LiveCD on my computer I get a question meaning "run Live or install?"

This question does not appear on my friends computer. The first thing you see (about 2 min after boot) is an alertpanel saying something like "The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. We will now set up a desktop environment so you can investigate the problem." After that the normal Lucid (Live) desktop appears and functions well, as far as I can understand.

Sorry for not being able to give more data about my friends system. It is a stationary computer about 2 yrs old, running XP. I can't really make investigations on his system either. I had hoped to go there next time and just install Lucid.

Maybe one should try the alternate installer, but my friend just got used to the LiveCD and I would therefore like to use the LiveCD.

I don't understand why it seems to start installation by itself.

Most of all. I wonder if it is a good idea to run the installation from the desktop icon? Maybe it will encounter the same error that the LiveCd seems to encounter at startup?

I'm thinking some how it confused itself. I've done run the Disk Analysis And it's rather confusing, but it seems to be looking at more then its alloted 10 GB.

Ubuntu Installation :: Wubi Gets Error: No Disk In The Drive

Oct 11, 2010

At the Ubuntu.ork front page, it promises:

Quote:

This Windows installer (Wubi) will help you to run Ubuntu within your current system.

What exactly is meant my this? Does this mean it is an easier way to install the dual boot with Windows? (I am using Windows-7 on a new PC.) Or does it mean it will install Ubuntu under Windows? I assumed it meant the latter.

In any case, I downloaded it - a mere 1024K, scanned it and ran it. I get a stubborn error box with the message:

Quote:

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive

DeviceHarddisk3DR3
[Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]

And that box will not go away - no matter what I press, including the [X] button in the upper corner, the box reappears. I had to go into Process Explorer to kill pyrun.exe and its parent, pyl5E39.tmp.exe before the [Cancel] button would close it for good.

I could not find doc on this so I don't know what it really wants as a prerequisite to running wubi.

Ubuntu :: Mount .disk File From A Previous Wubi Install?

Aug 30, 2010

I had an installation of Ubuntu under windows via wubi, after an update last week it wouldn't boot up at all, I tried everything I could find about how to fix grub, none of which worked, after looking at a working installation of Ubuntu with wubi I realised that my root.disk file had dissapeared.

I gave up and decided to get rid of windows all together, and now have a fresh 'proper' install of Ubuntu, but that root.disk file has turned up in a file called 'found'.

Is there any way I can mount that file in ubuntu to retrive the documents etc that I thought I had lost?

Ubuntu Installation :: Restore Wubi After Windows Reinstall - Error: No Such Disk

Jul 4, 2011

I decided it was time to reinstall Windows 7 because it became increasingly slow. I know that there's a different solution to solve this problem, but as a user I'm just more satisfied with the noob friendliness of Windows. However, I know that it has its drawbacks so I had a dual boot setup with Wubi (30GB). My old configuration was as follows:

C: partition of size ~80GB with Windows 7 x64 installed
D: partition of size ~400GB with data and a wubi ubuntu at D:/ubuntu

So what I did was this:

- Backup all my personal files and D:/ubuntu on a external hdd
- Wipe the partitions using the windows installer
- Create a C: of 100GB and a D: of 380GB
- install windows 7 x64 on the C: partition

Now I would like to restore my backup of the old D:/ubuntu to a working dual boot system. I realize I may have missed some opportunities and the data may be gone, but I only found out about that when it was too late. I have tried installing wubi, and replacing the new ubuntu folder with the old one, but this did not work.

error: no such device: 9054698454696DC2
error: no such disk

I have also tried replacing only the root.disk file, with the same result. I searched for other people's solutions, but they did not seem to work in my case.

Ubuntu Installation :: UN-installing Using The Wubi-uninstaller File But That Did Not Work

Jul 20, 2010

I switched to Ubuntu about a month ago and have been loving every bit of it so far Today, I decided it was time to switch from having ubuntu installed within windows (through wubi) into creating a separate partition for itself.

I tried UN-installing using the wubi-uninstaller file but that did not work. Tried removing from the Add/Remove box in Windows 7 but neither wubi nor ubuntu were listed. SO I ended up manually deleting ubuntu from the C: and then using EasyBCD to remove Ubuntu from the boot menu. It may all sound great but I noticed that my hard disk is missing around 25GB of space. I even re-installed windows 7 but that hasn't changed this. It may well be that my hard disk is just old (~2 years) but I think it maybe because of an incorrect UN-install of wubi. Having read through forum posts around the interwebs all evening, this seems to be a problem that a few people share.

ps: I intend on installing Ubuntu again once this hard disk issue is resolved!

Ubuntu Installation :: Migrate Wubi 10.04 Install To A Full Install?

Mar 19, 2011

What is the easiest and/or safest way to migrate my Wubi 10.04 install to a full install? Currently, my Dell XPS M1530 is currently dual-booting Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Windows Vista Home Premium, and I've decided after using Windows a total of around 4 hours over the past 6 months that I can probably let it go. So, I don't need Windows anymore and I believe I'm ready for a full install of Ubuntu. Though, I probably will wait for 11.04 to come out first.

A few ways I've thought of already are: 1) Find an external hard drive to put the Wubi files on. 2) Upload files to an storage website. 3) Temporarily put the Wubi files onto another computer (Windows). All these meaning I would then wipe my harddrive and install Ubuntu from a CD. And by "files", I mean Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc.

EDIT: deleting all my applications, because OpenOffice.org won't reinstall on my computer due to dependency issues while attempting to install LibreOffice. So a fresh install would be nice.

Ubuntu :: Increase The _original_ Swap File's Size For Hibernate To Work - Wubi Install ?

Jun 8, 2010

Wubi doesn't let me set the swap file size, so on installation it only creates a swap file of a few hundred megabytes. Because of this, i cannot hibernate my netbook (eeePC 1005HA), which has 2 GB of RAM.

Creating a 2 GB swap file alongside of the original one using the tutorial here did work, but hibernate doesn't seem to work with it. For this reason i thought increasing the original swap's size instead of creating more would be a way to solve my problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: Wubi And Windows XP 32-bit Install?

Sep 9, 2010

I'm an experienced Ubuntu user and thus far avoided the need to ask too many questions, but this one's a bit of an odd one.. I want to run 10.04 on my XP pro SP2 box at work so I thought perhaps I could run it via Windows by using Wubi - usually I dual-boot or run independently. However due to several factors this isn't possible in this instance, so rather than intall VMWare and all that palava, I figured Wubi would do the trick. Not used it before tho

The installer starts ok, but once it starts to download the install files it interferes with my network connection to the point where all my connections suddenly drop, and the install fails. I don't know wtf it's actually doing at this stage, because my SSH sessions to other machines seem to persist but I can no longer browse the web, IM loses connection (both MSN and Skype) - which could indicate it's interfering with my DNS? Even after closing the installer I just can't do anything without having to reboot the machine.

I just grabbed the latest installer from the site and ran the install. I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything wrong - but for some reason this clearly does not work on this machine. Am I missing something before I give up and try another tactic? It's turning into an awful lot of effort just to use one piggin' app...

Ubuntu Installation :: Wubi Broken By UNR Install

Dec 14, 2010

wanted to install UNR 10.04 proper, dropping WUBI. I figured I'd move my home folder and installed apps from wubi to the regular partition from inside the wubi install, after installing UNR and it's bootloader on a partition. The Wubi install no longer works, trying to boot it hangs at mounting a no longer existant logical partition. That partition used to be ntfs storage, now becoming the proper UNR partition.Wubi's Grub actually says it's not a NTFS partition anymore and hangs there.Would reinstalling Wubi from Windows (keeping the disks folder) solve anything? Is there anything I can do from Wubi Grub's command line?
