How do i roll back firefox5beta to firefox4 and keep updating to the latest stable releases w/out upgrading to beta? The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Have to use FEBE beta7 under Firefox4 so I don't think a compatible release for Firefox5beta is going to come out any time soon.

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 beta a couple of days back. This is the first time I am using a beta release. Some programs are crashing, although not frequently.
My question is - WHEN THE FINAL VERSION OF UBUNTU 10.04 IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD, IS IT MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE ? OR WILL UPDATING OR UPGRADING VIA THE system ---- administration --- update manager will upgrade my current beta version to the final release ???

I'm fed up with Gentoo and would like to migrate to Ubuntu. I just installed 10.04 Beta, but I'm wondering if I should continue configuring my system. Is it possible/easy/painless to upgrade to the release version when it comes out? Or should I stop investing any work into the beta right now and wait for the release?

If I went ahead and installed the Ubuntu 10.04 BETA version, would I be able to update it to the release version from within Ubuntu without having to boot from CD again (so just by the software updater)?

I have found some stable releases of packages I use which are included in Debian stable to be outdated. For example: I use Kdevelop. I absolutely love it. Checking Kdevelop.org says that latest stable release is 4.2.3.However on my system, the latest stable package found is 4.0.1 In my sources list I've selected to use only stable packages:
deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
BTW, I assume this is how I only get stable packages ? Why is it that although there are newer stable releases of Kdevelop, the latest (stable) found on Debian is 4.0.1 ? Is there something I can do in order to include those newer stable releases, other than downloading the source from the wesbite and building/installing ? I really like the way Debian handles it's packages, and I understand that Debian has it's own ways of doing things.

Code: Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be
caused by held packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.

I want to upgrade from my 10.10 to 11.04 beta I was wondering how should I do that and there is one more thing, all my setting and applications will be destroyed? And the last thing is, I really would like to have a netbook version environment, cos my friend had a 10.04 netbook and upgrade it directly into 11.04 and desktop and menus are like netbook, this is what 11.04 look like or that's because of his last ubuntu version?

Every time I upgrade to the current beta releases (natty) the boot process hangs mostly because of nvidia desktop graphics problems. Luckily the system is still running and remote login to console prompt works too. Is there really no reliable way to reset the graphics (and the rest) to minimum configuration. I am really tired of having to try all the repair options to get the desktop running again. How can Linux ever become a reliable solution if everything takes hours to fix and not even the boot process stays the same from one version to the next.

I installed the RC of Lucid on an old AMD X2 5600 w/4GB DDR2 ram, and put it in the other room and installed LAMP on it to use as a local development server. It works beautifully over the network.
1. There will be an upgrade option to go from RC to final release, right?
2. When upgrading, will this kill my LAMP install? I really don't wanna go from scratch now that I have it all up and running with a load of CMS systems installed for test environments

I have a local apt-mirror on my network that I use to upgrade my Ubuntu and Debian systems; works great, had it for years, used it to do release upgrades in the past. This time I'm trying to upgrade a fairly recently-installed 64-bit Lucid kubuntu machine to Maverick. When I try, I get this error:
Code:
After your package information was updated the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' can not be found anymore.
This indicates a serious error, please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.Anyone know the proper way to do this?

I installed Jessie with the RC1. URL...A2) The network install images for testing (jessie) can be found at URL...However, unless you want to test the installer for testing the better choice is to use the stable installer to install a minimal stable system and then upgrade to testing by changing your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 beta and now I get the login screen - but after logging in, all I get is a blank screen with a black bar on top showing just the time on the top right hand corner. If I CTRL+ALT+F1 and reboot using the command line, it restarts showing mythbuntu on shutdown. Im have nVidia GEForce 8600 - is this due the X crashing? I tried all these - no change
Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install -f

I'm so excited to see how nicely Lubuntu 10.04 runs on my EeePC. I went ahead and installed it, knowing that it's just the second beta. Everything seems to be going nicely, but when I did a "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" it showed there were tons of updates (about 90MB worth). I saw updates for Chrome, the kernel, xserver-xorg, etc. I understand this is just a beta operating system and is not recommended to be used as a primary OS, but I'm just so excited and can't wait. If I stay with this install, and keep updating, would I eventually make my way to the final release? Or would you recommend doing a reinstall with the final image?
