Debian :: Why Isn't Stable Release Of Package X Included In Lenny

Jun 30, 2011

I have found some stable releases of packages I use which are included in Debian stable to be outdated.For example: I use Kdevelop. I absolutely love it. Checking Kdevelop.org says that latest stable release is 4.2.3.However on my system, the latest stable package found is 4.0.1 In my sources list I've selected to use only stable packages:

deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free

BTW, I assume this is how I only get stable packages ? Why is it that although there are newer stable releases of Kdevelop, the latest (stable) found on Debian is 4.0.1 ? Is there something I can do in order to include those newer stable releases, other than downloading the source from the wesbite and building/installing ? I really like the way Debian handles it's packages, and I understand that Debian has it's own ways of doing things.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade Option To Go From RC To Final Release - Right?

Apr 27, 2010

I installed the RC of Lucid on an old AMD X2 5600 w/4GB DDR2 ram, and put it in the other room and installed LAMP on it to use as a local development server. It works beautifully over the network.

1. There will be an upgrade option to go from RC to final release, right?

2. When upgrading, will this kill my LAMP install? I really don't wanna go from scratch now that I have it all up and running with a load of CMS systems installed for test environments

Ubuntu Installation :: Release-upgrade From Apt-mirror Fails?

Oct 12, 2010

I have a local apt-mirror on my network that I use to upgrade my Ubuntu and Debian systems; works great, had it for years, used it to do release upgrades in the past. This time I'm trying to upgrade a fairly recently-installed 64-bit Lucid kubuntu machine to Maverick. When I try, I get this error:

Code:
After your package information was updated the essential package 'ubuntu-minimal' can not be found anymore.
This indicates a serious error, please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.Anyone know the proper way to do this?

I installed Jessie with the RC1. URL...A2) The network install images for testing (jessie) can be found at URL...However, unless you want to test the installer for testing the better choice is to use the stable installer to install a minimal stable system and then upgrade to testing by changing your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

OpenSUSE :: Getting "stable" Repos For The KDE 4.4 Release?

Feb 17, 2010

I've been thinking of going into opensuse for a long time and now with KDE 4.4 is finally out - I'm going to do it. The installation shouldn't be a problem but I wonder how I can upgrade to kde 4.4, since opensuse 11.2 will have 4.3 by default? I saw in the documentation to add these repos:

# Core packages: Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2
# Community: Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.2_KDE4_Factory_Desktop
# Playground: http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...actory_Desktop

Now my question is, whats the diffrence between core, community and playground? And isnt there "stable" repos for the KDE 4.4 release? And are there a repo with amarok 2.3 Beta?

Slackware :: Upgrade From RC-pi To 13.37-stable?

Apr 13, 2011

I recently installed Slackware-13.37-RCpi on a production machine. In view of the many changes since then, will the upgrade to 13.37-stable, when it comes to the world, be as easy as syncing the local mirror with slackpkg and re-running lilo? What worries me is that there were changes of the kernel and the headers and I am afraid there might be some pitfalls associated with that. Will I need to recompile the packages I compiled and installed on the stock 13.37-RCpi?

Ubuntu Servers :: Release Upgrade Utility On A Live Server?

Sep 8, 2010

Does anyone have any experiences to share regarding this? Our server is still running Hardy and, of course, the time is rapidly approaching where I need to upgrade to the latest LTS. Now, I'm sure a complete re-installation would obviously be preferred, but I noticed that there's a release upgrade feature for Ubuntu server. Is this reliable enough to use on our production server without wrecking everything? I really don't want to have to go through the process of configuring software RAID and all our other services again.

Obviously I'll take normal precautions such as making tons of backups and starting the process on a weekend so if the proverbial poo hits the fan I can work over the weekend and have everything up and rolling by monday. This server is not exposed to the outside world as a webserver or anything like that so it can afford to be down over the weekend (although not preferable since we have financial cron jobs and such running in the wee hours of the morning).

Ubuntu :: Stable On Livecd Crashes After Installation

May 22, 2011

I can boot off of the Natty LiveCD, run it for days fine. Install, everything's smooth. Boot up and run some updates. That's where it hung the first time around. Display froze, cursor and keyboard would not respond, audio was stuck looping. This was a pain because it corrupted some stuff with apt. Any point from power-on onward is "eligible" for a crash. It seems to be random, but there also seems to be a trend of it crashing earlier on as time proceeds. This is a custom built computer, and I've tried other Linux distros like Debian and 9.04 UNR, they all crash somewhere in the install. Leaves me thinking it's a hardware fault, but why would it run perfectly fine off of CD but die when installed then?

Fedora Servers :: Upgrade Fedora Release Keeping Raid 1 And Lvm?

Nov 13, 2010

I hope this is the right section, it looks like though. I have a small nas ( via artigo a2000 ) with 2 sata hd 1tb each with raid 1 and lvm on top configured and working great.

sda1 and sdb1 ==> md0 raid1 for /boot
sda2 and sdb2 ==> md1 raid1 for swap
sda3 and sdb3 ==> md2 raid1 as physical volume then volume group and lvs on top ( / is a logial volume of these )

I wish to upgrade the current fedora 12 32bit installation I have on it doing a fresh install. But because I have a lot of data on md2 ( 600GB worth ) which I don't want to copy across somewhere else first, I need to know how ( i am pretty sure i can ) to mount md2 during the installation. This way I can use the data I already have on it.
