Ubuntu Installation :: After Upgrade To 10.04 Beta 2 - Can't Log On (module Is Unknown)
Apr 20, 2010
I upgraded from Carmic to Lucid beta 2, but after rebooting when I tried to log on I got message "module is unknown". The only way to get to the system is to boot to recovery and choose "Drop to root shell prompt".
Update to Ubutu 11.4 is it? The log in screen says 'module is unknow' when I try to log in. Windows 7 on the first partition has gone down the tubes too. Doing this on Lynx
I am trying to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 beta. I tried ALT-F2 & ``update - manager -d'' but when Upate Manager opened, it did not give me the option of upgrading to 10.04 beta.
ok to upgrade to qt 4.6 without getting KDE 4.4 beta. QT has had some huge improvements i hear, and i want them without the betaness of KDE 4.4. I was going to enable the KDE's beta ppa after locking the versions of my KDE, then upgrade just the QT stuff.
Ok so i have 2 pcs one is running lucid lynx and when I use the command update-manager -d I get the option to upgrade to 10.10 but on my second pc I'm running 9.04 (jaunty jacklope) and when i run the command update-manager -d I only get the option to upgrade to 9.10. so how can I upgrade from 9.04 to 10.10 without having to install the following versions.
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.
I want to upgrade from my 10.10 to 11.04 beta I was wondering how should I do that and there is one more thing, all my setting and applications will be destroyed? And the last thing is, I really would like to have a netbook version environment, cos my friend had a 10.04 netbook and upgrade it directly into 11.04 and desktop and menus are like netbook, this is what 11.04 look like or that's because of his last ubuntu version?
Is it possible to upgrade from from Ubuntu 11.04 beta 2 64 bit to Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit final edition? I have went on Ubuntu Update Manager and updated my pc and its still on beta 2. Will it be better erasing my hard disk and then do it from there?
I'm interested in trying out the 10.04 beta release. Does anyone know if it will be possible to upgrade from the beta to the final version once it is released in April? Or will I have to perform a fresh install of the final version?
successfully upgrade a Toshiba Satellite A505 from 9.10 to 10.4 beta? If so was there anything special that needed to be done. I tried to install 10.4 beta 2 and I could boot from live CD but once installed it did not see to matter what boot option I had it shut the screen off before even getting to grub.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10. When the stable version is released, will I be able to upgrade to the stable version from the update manager, or will i have to install the stable version separate? What about 10.04 to 10.10 upgrade?
Every time I upgrade to the current beta releases (natty) the boot process hangs mostly because of nvidia desktop graphics problems. Luckily the system is still running and remote login to console prompt works too. Is there really no reliable way to reset the graphics (and the rest) to minimum configuration. I am really tired of having to try all the repair options to get the desktop running again. How can Linux ever become a reliable solution if everything takes hours to fix and not even the boot process stays the same from one version to the next.
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 beta and now I get the login screen - but after logging in, all I get is a blank screen with a black bar on top showing just the time on the top right hand corner. If I CTRL+ALT+F1 and reboot using the command line, it restarts showing mythbuntu on shutdown. Im have nVidia GEForce 8600 - is this due the X crashing? I tried all these - no change
I'm so excited to see how nicely Lubuntu 10.04 runs on my EeePC. I went ahead and installed it, knowing that it's just the second beta. Everything seems to be going nicely, but when I did a "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" it showed there were tons of updates (about 90MB worth). I saw updates for Chrome, the kernel, xserver-xorg, etc. I understand this is just a beta operating system and is not recommended to be used as a primary OS, but I'm just so excited and can't wait. If I stay with this install, and keep updating, would I eventually make my way to the final release? Or would you recommend doing a reinstall with the final image?
My current setup was: 4 x 500 gb hard drives in (software / onboard controller) Raid 10 (1 +0) with Windows 7 x64 as the primary OS 1 500 gb hard drive with Ubuntu 10.10 installed
After upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Beta, I hit the Grub Error. I have removed the 5th HDD but still getting it on boot into Windows 7. I am currently in the process of copying all files from my raid via a 10.10 flash drive boot (fortunately was able to mount my raid's partitions).
I was using Fedora 12 beta release, now how to move away from raw-hide and start using fedora 12 Final repo and update it properly?
[Code]...
Edit: BTW , if i ran yum checkupdate,i start getting FC13 package listings, i see rawhide has already moved to FC13, good that i dont let yum auto-update.
I've just upgraded to Natty and lost ability to login through the Gnome login screen - "Module is unknown" message appears after I enter the correct password and hit "Enter".
I'm still able to switch to a text console and login there, both as root and as a restricted user.
Here is an excerpt from my /var/log/auth.log file code...
I tried upgrading to 11.04 this morning and after rebooting grub left me at the grub rescue> prompt with the message 'error: unknown filesystem'. I've tried purging and reinstalling grub using a live-cd but no joy.
Let me know what additional information to provide. EDIT: Here is the output from the Boot Info Script
April 8th, 2010 - Beta 2 release; April 22nd, 2010 - Release Candidate; April 29th, 2010 - Final release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
If I have 10.04 beta 1, could I just continue to update and not have to burn another disk to install? Or do I have to burn the beta 2 and reinstall if I want it?
After installing ncl 2 sp2, I restarted my computer. Now when I try to login I am getting the following error:Module is unknown. I am running openSuse 11.2 64-bit.
Code: Can't initialize iptables table 'NAT': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Looking at lsmod, it doesn't look like I have anything NAT related loaded ( I just have iptable_filter, ip_tables, and x_table ). Doing a locate nat, I find a module that looks like it should work. I'm running 10.04.1 LTS - Kernel is 2.6.32-25-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP and it is pretty much stock - haven't done anything fancy... this module looks promising:
Code: /lib/modules/2.6.32-25-generic/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/iptable_nat.ko but loading it and I get:
I upgraded Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx, Alpha 2. Now I want to upgrade to Alpha 3, and eventually to BetaX. When I enter the command updata-manager -d, the system says that I am up-to-date. Is there a direct way to upgrade to the latest Alpha, or do I need to download the .iso, build a CD, and do an install from that?
During the upgrade proses I had lots of errors !anyway my problem happened when I chose keep my modified boot loader and I didn't install the new grub boot loader now .. when I start my laptop I get into the command line $ I have tow HDD (ubuntu/ win7)
I have installed ubuntu 10.10 using wubi its working fine but iam not getting upgraded to newver version after pressing Alt+f2 and filling update-manager -d I am getting the massage that no such file in the dictionary found.
Ever since I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 beta, my local .php urls are acting funny esp at virtual hosts. Sometimes it works, but mostly it gives a blank page and at other times it asks for downloading the php file. This is really random - I keep hitting F5 and any one of the above can occur. Worst part is, its not consistent. It doesnt happen for custom scripts at localhost. Mainly WordPress and Magento. Im guessing something to do with htaccess directives. Its like as if AddHandler / SetHandler is going on and off.
Code: $ apache2ctl -l Compiled in modules: core.c mod_log_config.c
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 beta a couple of days back. This is the first time I am using a beta release. Some programs are crashing, although not frequently.
My question is - WHEN THE FINAL VERSION OF UBUNTU 10.04 IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD, IS IT MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE ? OR WILL UPDATING OR UPGRADING VIA THE system ---- administration --- update manager will upgrade my current beta version to the final release ???
Using mrepo, i'm trying to pull down centos 5.6 updates from a mirror (say, mirrors.kernel.org or mirrors.usc.edu). i want to use rsync to do this so i can try to exclude packages i don't need on my servers (e.g. firefox, openoffice). when i try this, i get the error "@ERROR: Unknown module '5.6'".
The following rsync command is what mrepo uses when i run "mrepo -ugvvvv":
When i run that, i get the unknown module error.
But what i don't understand about that error is, sniffing out the rsync server's modules on the commandline shows me that module (and path?) should work. like so:
Anyone know what i'm doing wrong when trying to pull this mirror down via mrepo? (or even that long rsync command)
