View 2 Replies View RelatedCode: Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be
caused by held packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.
I want to upgrade from my 10.10 to 11.04 beta I was wondering how should I do that and there is one more thing, all my setting and applications will be destroyed? And the last thing is, I really would like to have a netbook version environment, cos my friend had a 10.04 netbook and upgrade it directly into 11.04 and desktop and menus are like netbook, this is what 11.04 look like or that's because of his last ubuntu version?

View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 beta, my local .php urls are acting funny esp at virtual hosts. Sometimes it works, but mostly it gives a blank page and at other times it asks for downloading the php file. This is really random - I keep hitting F5 and any one of the above can occur. Worst part is, its not consistent. It doesnt happen for custom scripts at localhost. Mainly WordPress and Magento. Im guessing something to do with htaccess directives. Its like as if AddHandler / SetHandler is going on and off.

I upgraded from Carmic to Lucid beta 2, but after rebooting when I tried to log on I got message "module is unknown". The only way to get to the system is to boot to recovery and choose "Drop to root shell prompt".

View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery time I upgrade to the current beta releases (natty) the boot process hangs mostly because of nvidia desktop graphics problems. Luckily the system is still running and remote login to console prompt works too. Is there really no reliable way to reset the graphics (and the rest) to minimum configuration. I am really tired of having to try all the repair options to get the desktop running again. How can Linux ever become a reliable solution if everything takes hours to fix and not even the boot process stays the same from one version to the next.

Just wanted to get some idea of stability/functionality.
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 beta and now I get the login screen - but after logging in, all I get is a blank screen with a black bar on top showing just the time on the top right hand corner. If I CTRL+ALT+F1 and reboot using the command line, it restarts showing mythbuntu on shutdown. Im have nVidia GEForce 8600 - is this due the X crashing? I tried all these - no change
Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install -f
I'm so excited to see how nicely Lubuntu 10.04 runs on my EeePC. I went ahead and installed it, knowing that it's just the second beta. Everything seems to be going nicely, but when I did a "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade" it showed there were tons of updates (about 90MB worth). I saw updates for Chrome, the kernel, xserver-xorg, etc. I understand this is just a beta operating system and is not recommended to be used as a primary OS, but I'm just so excited and can't wait. If I stay with this install, and keep updating, would I eventually make my way to the final release? Or would you recommend doing a reinstall with the final image?

4 x 500 gb hard drives in (software / onboard controller) Raid 10 (1 +0) with Windows 7 x64 as the primary OS
1 500 gb hard drive with Ubuntu 10.10 installed
After upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Beta, I hit the Grub Error. I have removed the 5th HDD but still getting it on boot into Windows 7. I am currently in the process of copying all files from my raid via a 10.10 flash drive boot (fortunately was able to mount my raid's partitions).

My question is - WHEN THE FINAL VERSION OF UBUNTU 10.04 IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD, IS IT MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE ? OR WILL UPDATING OR UPGRADING VIA THE system ---- administration --- update manager will upgrade my current beta version to the final release ???
I am trying to use Skype beta on my acer aspire one with ubuntu 10.10. The video runs brilliantly and i can also here my wife from the other end but she cannot hear me. Apparently something is fishy with my mic input. I tried alsamixer and everything is in unmute. My alsa version is 1.0.23. The only think she hears is a loud hissing noise which is normally my bat voice but she doesnt need to know that. I can record my voice in the sound recorder but nothing comes out in Skype!

If I have 10.04 beta 1, could I just continue to update and not have to burn another disk to install? Or do I have to burn the beta 2 and reinstall if I want it?
My update manager still says "updated 3 days ago" and no updates have come through today. Does anyone know if NBR has been automatically updated TODAY from Beta 1?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx, Alpha 2. Now I want to upgrade to Alpha 3, and eventually to BetaX. When I enter the command updata-manager -d, the system says that I am up-to-date. Is there a direct way to upgrade to the latest Alpha, or do I need to download the .iso, build a CD, and do an install from that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a G3 Mac using the 6.06 PPC version of Ubuntu. The Update Manager stated there is the update to PPC 8.04 LTS so I went ahead and updated it. After 6 hours of downloading and updating, now it only boots to a blank/black screen as if it is trying to use a non-native resolution. One time I did hear the login (drum) sound but still nothing on the screen. Any way I can boot into a cli to troubleshoot this? During the entire booting process I only see black screens, a few text screens (yaboot, then another with Loading Please wait), one has the typing cursor at the top left for about 1 minute. I can hear the hard drive running and searching as if all is working and loading, just nothing on the screen.
I tried the same thing a few months ago and the only way to get it working was to put in the 6.06 alt PPC CD and format/reinstall.
I've just installed Kubuntu 9.10 on a friends powerbook g4 and it's running wonderfully. I don't want to upgrade to Lucid, I tried it and it ran not so good on this computer. How can I tell it to stop offering to upgrade to the next release? (I only want the automatic upgrade notification to appear for normal upgrades and not include Lucid, or have Lucid option to appear at all).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI searched through a lot of threads on whether its safe to upgrade from a working Karmic install to Lucid via the upgrade manager. I found a few threads from around 1 month ago where some said it worked, others said they had problems with grub etc.
Does anyone know the current status of this? I would like to upgrade to Lucid but I don't know if its safe. Would it be better to use an install CD instead of the upgrade manager? Do I need to manually install grub rather than let the install program do it? (I think the upgrade manager doesn't give an option it just installs grub after the upgrade)
I recently updated my server from 9.04 to 10.04.1Previously, my two macs running snow leopard were able to connect to the server and print with no problem. Now they won't print. I can print a test page through CUPS web interface and my Ubuntu 10.04.1 laptop will print to the server.I noticed a difference in Gutenprint that went from v5.2.3 to v5.2.5. At least that was the difference I saw between what the CUPS web interface was showing and what driver I had to choose from when adding a printer on the mac said. I updated the gutenprint drivers to 5.2.5 on the mac.I've uninstalled CUPS 1.4.3, reinstalled it, deleted the printer, added it again. This is the error I get in the mac when I try to print:Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME)The print job says its printing, never does, and eventually shows its paused
