Ubuntu :: Unable To Set Custom Icon On Application Launcher?

Jan 19, 2011

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 and having trouble setting a custom icon for an application launcher that I created. I have created and SVG file and placed it in /usr/shared/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/ and when I try to select it as the icon for the application launcher, it just goes back to the gnome-panel-launcher.svg default.If I put the SVG file on my desktop and then select it, all is well. I'm assuming this is some type of permission problem, but I cannot seem to figure it out. I have set the permissions to be identical to the other icons in /usr/shared/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/, but have no luck doing that either.

Ubuntu :: Burg - OS X Icon Display Instead Of Default One?

Feb 10, 2011

I've recently started using burg (a modification of grub that shows pictures instead of/with text), and I really like it for booting into Ubuntu and Vista. After many failed attempts of trying to get OSX on my PC, I'd like to try Macbuntu (a theme for Ubuntu that makes it look like a Mac). Unfortunately (fortunately?) my parents have taking a liking to Ubuntu and hate when I change anything, so installing Macbuntu would be a big no-no. I made a copy of Ubuntu and will put it on another partition of my hard drive, but I don't want to have two Ubuntu pictures when burg boots up. Are there any bootup lines I can put inside burg.cfg to fool it into loading an osx picture, then loading Ubuntu?

Ubuntu :: Inconsistency Of Icon Emblems When Using Custom Icon Theme?

Feb 16, 2011

I have recently installed Faenza icon theme and just began to notice the inconsistency of icon emblems being displayed by compiz.Attached image shows the emblems of Chromium, Nautilus and Comix are that of the default icons, while Empathy andCompizConfigSettingsManager displayed the custom icon correctly. The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though.The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).

Software :: .desktop Icon Is Not Displayed / Icon Is Not Working In Menu?

Aug 2, 2009

I'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
X-SuSE-translate=true
Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility;
Comment=ETM Manager for time logging
Exec=etmmanager
code....

My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.

It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like
Code:
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png
About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2

Ubuntu :: Cannot Upgrade Custom Icon Set

Jul 16, 2011

I am using Natty in Classic Gnome mode with a custom icon set, Awoken. It is doing fine, but an upgrade was released a few days ago and the installation fails:

Code:
Preparing to replace awoken-icon-theme 2.0~ppa1~natty2 (using .../awoken-icon-theme_2.1~ppa1~natty1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement awoken-icon-theme ...

[Code]....

There is a page for awoken-icon-theme package on Launchpad, but I cannot find a way to submit a bug on it. If I try "ubuntu-bug awoken-icon-theme", it is rejected because it is not an Ubuntu package. I understand that. Should I try to contact the developer directly?

How can I resolve this error and get the upgrade installed?

I am just looking for the way to do this in the terminal to save time, as the music collection is quite large.

Fedora :: Creating Custom Gnome Notification Icon?

Nov 7, 2010

creating your own notification icon for Gnome? Like the Power, Network, and Sound ones. I found something called Zenity but it doesn't seem to be able to create a drop-down menu and I can't see how I'd update the information in the icon once it is created. I have a script set up to check something and want to report the results back via a persistent notification icon, with the ability to change the icon and its properties (mouseover/tooltip text) and drown-down menu text as appropriate.

I'm a bit apprehensive about trying it.This laptop had 10.10 as the only OS but I shrank the partition and installed 11.04 in the empty space.So 11.04 re-wrote the Grub with itself at the top of the list.So now I have 10.10 in sda1 and 11.04 in sda6.Do you think that Burg will cause any problems?

Ubuntu :: Creating A Custom Grub2 Menu?

Jul 14, 2010

I've been following this guide [URL].... on creating a custom boot menu for Grub2 and I've run up against a wall. I made it all the way to the section on testing the custom menu but when I do, the new menu refuses to load. When I get to the boot screen I see the standard menu plus an extra entry at the bottom that will show what my custom menu will look like. When I select it though, it won't load. The screen blinks and remains on the main menu. I don't have the correct 'set' and 'search' lines in the 40_custom entry and I don't know how to correct them.

Ubuntu :: Creating Custom Command/menu Launcher?

Sep 20, 2010

I had a problem with viewing webcams on Skype, and after searching I found out that running Skype through the terminal with this command "export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && skype" makes the webcams work perfectly. What I wanted to do was to integrate this command into the main menu so that I won't have to type it into the terminal (and thus keep the terminal open all the session) every time I want to use Skype. So I edited the command of the Skype button in the Applications menu and put that line instead of "skype", but it gives me "Failed to execute child process "export" (No such file or directory)". I tried editing .bashrc and added the following line:

alias skp='export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 && skype'

Now the command 'skp' works through the terminal, but it gives me the same error message when I put it into the command line of the applications menu.

Ubuntu :: Displaying Custom Folder Icons On The Places Menu?

Apr 20, 2010

I'm keeping my documents, music, and videos etc. on a separate partition from my home directory, formatted with encrypted fat32 so that I can access it from both my windows and my ubuntu installation. So I've made the folders, transferred the files, and I selected custom icons (by right-click, properties, click on custom icon, then select the file from /usr/share/icons/Humanity/places/4.

So far so good. The problem is that the custom icons don't appear in the Places sidebar in Nautilus or the main Places menu in gnome. It just comes up as a regular folder.

See a screenshot of it here.

Does anyone have an idea/workaround so that I can use my custom icons in the Places menu as well? I have tried it with scalable icons, with no difference. I've also tried looking for a configuration file which might have the details in, but I haven't found it - I suppose this probably has something to do with how the Places menu is automatically generated.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala with Gnome.
