I was using ubuntu normaly until yesterday. Today when i turned on my laptop its theme was this way:[url]
When i first turn it on, the main panel (where stays "Applications", "Places" and "System") was this color too! But then i just opened System -> Preferences -> Appearance and it self-fixed, without selecting any option, just opening Appearance window.
But the rest of this stuff (like right-click menu and folders) is still messed up!

I know, the question seems idiotic, but I accidentally changed all the 'theme fonts' to Sans 12 (a keyboard shortcut handy for switching between different display sizes) I don't know if I'm getting the font or just the size wrong but it doesn't look quite right anymore...
checking the 'correct' font name(s) and size(s) in the appearance settings under 'Fonts'.

I recently upgraded from Lucid to Maverick... I did not notice this earlier but the icon theme (for example, in the nautilus toolbar) is not the same as ambience theme. Although I chose all the defaults for ambience theme by going to 'System' > 'Preferences' > 'Appearance'. I think the current icons I have are remnants from some previous installations. How do I remove them and get to the ambiance default theme?

I want to import raw High Def video into my computer so I can edit it on Cinelerra. Ubuntu doesn't allow you to use the ieee 1394 cable by default and everything I've tried to make it work, hasn't!!I don't want to go back to windows, pay a ton of money for some video editing software when there is an excellent video editing program already on my computer.]

When Ambiance is selected as the theme, the broadcast box in the "Me Menu" is black text on a near black background. Changing the "Input Boxes" color changed the color of that boxes background on every theme except Ambiance. The problem seems to be with having "Controls" set to Ambiance, because having any other theme customized with Ambiance controls selected causes this bug again.
I really don't want to use any of the other themes because I find them horrid in comparison. how to fix this bug, or if someone would be kind enough to post a proper bug report for this? Can anyone else recreate this error on theirs?

Anyone having problems with the theme crashing using natty in virtualbox 4? I log in and you see the default ubuntu theme, then about 5 seconds it switches to an older gnome light theme and can't be switched back. Every once in a while, possibly due to updates or something it stays on the correct theme, but as soon as I restart the vm, it starts happening again.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal on Virtualbox 4.0.6 (host OS is Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick) and for some reason the Global Menu does not follow the theme selected in appearances. By this I mean that no matter what theme I select the Global Menu resembles something like a Windows 95 theme, I presume a default basic theme. This also applies to the 'Home Folder' icon in the launcher and the corresponding icons in the home folder itself.
Has anyone else come across this and does anyone know how to correct it? I have also posted on the Virtualbox forums, but judging by the number of people logged on at the time I fancy my chances here better.

Is there a way to downgrade from Ubuntu Natty 11.04 to Lucid 10.04? I recently upgraded and I despise it with a passion. I do not want to just change to Gnome and stop using Unity. This simply sweeps everything under the carpet. Alternatively, can I reinstall 10.04 on top of 11.04 but keep ALL my settings, files everything? How?
I would like to reinstall the linux kernels, headers, everything.
Is there some kind of command like:
sudo do-release-downgrade
or something?
or
sudo apt-get install lucid-something-blah-blah-blah-weird-command

I have Lucid. I played with compiz and emerald. I put everything back. But my theme is no longer as it was before I started. Similar, but the icon set and windows are a little different. Under 'appearance' the theme, which I'm told is called 'light' isn't visible. And I don't know the original icon set. How can I restore my desktop to look as it did on installation.

Upgrade to lucid (by running update-manager -d) succeeded with no major error. But when I reboot the computer, the boot splash screen is "Ubuntu Studio" and the login screen's background is a "Ubuntu-eee" png picture. A funny mess.I was able to get to the new boot splash screen by remove --purge ubuntu-studio, which I must have installed sometimes in the past, but I don't see anyway of getting the new theme for the login screen.I have this eeepc for about 2 years and never have to fresh-install Ubuntu except the first time. I much rather not have to fresh-install just to solve some aesthetic problems.I am pretty sure it's due to some package I installed in the past, but I don't see any Ubuntu-eee related package in Synaptic either.

OK, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and since upgrading to the 256.35 drivers from the ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates ppa the ambiance and radiance themes have gone funny. For example the scroll bars and buttons are now very white and when hovering over the time it goes a very bright colour. If I return to the 195 drivers the problem goes, but the 256 drivers have better video vdpau performance. The problem occurs regardless of whether compiz is enabled. The login screen is also affected. My gfx card is an 8600m gs.

This is one of two new themes that just came with a "sudo apt-get upgrade" on my Lucid installation. Supposedly, the two themes are part of the same package, "Adium", and the themes look more like the Mac (or KDE) than anything else. The difference between the themes? One is dark, and one is light (The dark version is shown). This is roughly the same philosophy as Ubuntu Sun: Install light and dark themes as "leitmotiv for a lucid release". How do you think of this new theme in Ubuntu?

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. It's a Latitude D830. Everything's working well, which is why I decided to start customizing Ubuntu's look. My first stop was gnomelook.org and the other popular theme website for gnome(cant remember the name).Anyway, I could not find what I wanted in a theme so I turned to Ultimate Edition's website. I followed their instructions to add their repo to sources.list. Then tried to install one of the theme packs, only to be told that 'usplash' could not be installed. WHAT!? So, I went ahead and googled the message and found out that 10.04 no longer uses 'usplash', it uses 'plymouth'.
UE's website claims that their themes can be installed in any version of the official Ubuntu releases. All I had to do was follow their instructions to add the repo to sources.list, which I did.Can I force install a theme pack and bypass the 'usplash' error? maybe at the command line with apt?found another site with the Ultimate Edition themes and direct download links. I installed the latest one(UE 2.6 theme pack), package installer didn't complain, installation was successful, but the theme is nowhere to be found on my system. LOL I even went into Synaptic, searched for the theme, it didn't come up.

I created an installation CD and even a usb stick of Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and Natty Narwhal and I keep having freezes during installation.
1. Set my BIOS to boot on CD/ usb stick
2. My computer starts to boot from CD/ usb stick
3. Ubuntu logo plus 5 dots screen shown
4. After that I am shown a snowy green screen with white lines running lengthwise and it freezes.
I already tried creating a new CD and usb stick after re-downloading the .iso installation file and creating the process of creating an installer over and over but still the same problem. Is it a hardware problem or my installer is the problem. I tried installing my old CD of Ubuntu Jaunty that I requested from Ubuntu a long time ago and I can install it without any problems. I am using Jaunty right now...........

I have used 11.04 for a while on upgraded machines. It is the first time that I installed it on a clean machine. I goes a lot smoother than the upgraded ones, and I really appreciate the new GUI, but I badly miss the old, Lucid style Ambiance theme. Is there a way to switch back to it?I downloaded a .deb package, but the package manager does not let me install, stating there is a newer version in use.
