View 3 RepliesI'm trying to install new themes on ubuntu but it tells me that GTK + themes 'ubuntulooks'is not installed and won't load up the themes as it should. I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP laptop model HP G72 Notebook PC, Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @2.27GHz & the Sound devices are Intel(R) Display Audio & Realtek High Definition Audio.
This machine came loaded with Windows7 & I have successfully dual booted it with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.3.
The problem I am having is that I cannot get the sound to work at all in Ubuntu. No opening sounds or anything else that I have tried. No Web sounds, no CD sounds... All sounds work fine on the Windows side, but nothing I have tried so far seem to work with Ubuntu & I have tried many options from many threads.
I've been using opensuse for about a week.(although I'm not completely a linux noob) I've been slowly moving more of the stuff I do on windows over to suse. I thought my sound was working fine until I decided to get mp3s running on amarok. I followed a bunch of guides which didn't work. While I was messing around with stuff I noticed a startup noise. I just assumed it didn't have a startup noise. At some point I broke all of my sound except running wine, so I reinstalled.
Now that I've noticed, none of my notification sounds work. Stuff like skype, firefox, and wine still give me sounds.
(If anyone could point me in the direction of a good place to get mp3s working on amarok would be nice as well.)
I would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons. Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another? Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince of late "Appearance preference" behaves awkwardly . Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.
Some time ago I installed KDE on my machine, though I use gnome as the default. (I rarely login on KDE) .Since then, when I login in my default gnome I get those futuristic KDE cursors, which I hate by the way. I've been trying to go back to my default cursors but I've had no success. I go to System -> Appearance -> Customize -> Pointer and then I select Default Pointer or even DMZ (white) I click on close twice and nothing happens. I've even removed the "oxygen-cursor-theme" using the package manager. How can I get my default mouse cursors back?
On the same note, before I get the login screen and after clicking on logout/restart I get a Kubuntu blue (splash?) screen, I'd prefer not to get this screen. how to get rid of this, too? (Getting rid of the cursors would be most important, but if I can get rid of this screen it'd be nice, too)
I recently correctly installed a cursor theme in ubuntu 10.04. When I move the pointer around in a window the theme appears but when I move the pointer around on the desktop i changes to the default theme.
I think it's something with compiz because when I shut it down the theme appears on the desktop...
Whenever I want to change my cursor to something else, the "new" cursor only shows up when I'm doing certain things in certain apps. How do I make it so that my replacement, new cursor is OS-wide, instead of making little cameo appearances?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, when I play Java games, Sun Java will use default cursor set instead of custom cursor set that i have selected. So, where is the problem? I can see the difference if I start that java game to window, and move my mouse from not-window to window :/
Very annoying, because i would need that custom cursor for that game
After upgrade to 10.10 certain cursors became broken. Please see attached picture to get an idea what it looks like, I've circled the cursor. I had to take a pic with a camera, if I do a print screen the resulting image shows normal cursor. I've tried turning off desktop effects and different drivers for the video card. The cursor is broken for the following apps:
rdesktop - always when connected to the remote host
chrome/firefox - image zoom in/out
open office draw - when I try to resize a line.
How do you create custom cursors? I found an xcursor tutorial but no installation instructions - it just left me with the cursor files.
View 2 Replies View Relatedlenny gives me either system sounds, or other sounds like flash plugin sounds like videos, cd playback etc., but not both. to hear videos i have to disable system sounds. as soon as i tick enable software sound mixing (esd) in system -> preferences -> sound -> sounds, videos goes. a message saying it could not open the resource as something else is using it comes up when trying to play a cd. sounds like a threading problem in some program. what should i do to get sounds to be equitably shared by all?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running ubuntu 9.10 on a dell mini 10v. I am experienced in running themes and xsplashes, but for some reason i can not successfully install pointers. I drag and drop the pointer themes to the appearance window found from System>Prefrences>Appearances. When i click customize i see that the pointers i instatlled are there, however when i choose them it doesn't work properly, if i go over text or resize a window i see the new pointers but the main pointer always stays the default white.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt there a way to enable automated mouse cursors in Fedora 12? About the only thing I miss from WinDoze is the animated hourglass cursor when I start an application by double-clicking its icon. With Fedora, I'll sometimes double-click an icon again, thinking that my first attempt didn't work, only to find that the program was loading and then I have two instances of the program.Yeah, it's a minor thing and, yeah, I can live without it, but it sure would be nice.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out what in the world is going on with my sound in OpenSuSE. I put in a brand new Audigy chipset soundcard and finally got some sound to come out of the speakers. I used the guide here: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE. to fix the permissions on my sound and am able to get sound-test to play sounds as well as connect to the sound device in my vmware and play sounds. That being said, I have terrible sound quality coming out. There is a lot of static sound like white noise and the volume of the actual sound played is very low compared to the noise. The sounds also distort somewhat.
I have tried the pulse audio change in the tutorial above also and have been searching around google. The only problem that I saw similar was a person who fixed the problem by updating KDE. I don't have KDE, I'm using Afterstep.
Hey I've got firefox and google chrome installed. I was using firefox for school and had to watch a photographed tour for history. The photos would not show up at all but in chrome they came up fine. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have ubuntu on one laptop and arch linux on another. Ubuntu allows me to easily take photos from my camera and put them on my laptop. Arch does not, even after I've installed the "necessary" software.
What is it that ubuntu has that allows me to do this? I'd like to know, so that I can install it on arch.
upload photos to Photobox (other than one by one)? It keeps telling me I haven't got the plugins, offers me 2 but both are installed. FTP can't be used as they say (log in and drop stuff in). I have Mint Helena (Karmic Koala) and Mozilla 3.6.8
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to batch rename 3,300 photos, and can't figure it out.
I've tried digiKam and KRename, however I can't figure out how to simply rename the files as such:
~/Pictures/[year]/[month]/[datetime].JPG
where the year, month, and datetime are when the picture was taken, via EXIF data. In digiKam, I can't figure out how to rename the files to move to a different dirrectory than their current one, and with KRename, I can't figure out how to only use the year for the directory instead of the entire datetime.
Does anybody have an idea why I can't upload photos to Facebook?Always when I try to do it, both in Firefox and in Opera the message "The connection has been reset" appears... What could be the reason? Could it also be a problem with my router or provider? Because I presume the problem exists, since I have moved flat.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use: Ubuntu 11.04 (with Unity) Chrome (and also tried using Firefox and Opera) My Problem? Today I tried to upload some pictures on Facebook (like I use to) and after choosing them it gets stuck, the browser works, but the pictures don't get uploaded. I tried different browsers and the results were the same. My java package seems to be up-to-date as well as my browser (Chrome). I don't really know what is going wrong.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a lot of photos I've take over the years, and I suspect I've got lots and lots of duplicates, since I may have multiple backups for the same photos.
Have anyone experience with deduplication of photos in Ubuntu, and could recommend an approach for a quick and efficient way to do this?
Ubuntu wont upload my photos to Ebay but they will in puppy linux? Is there any fix for this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Silkypix (tried 2.0 and 3.0SE) through Winedoors in Linux Mint Helena and keep getting coloured stripes across the photos. It actually works if I ignore these stripes but I wonder if it could be fixed...? I also tried Linux raw converters Rawtherapee and UFRAW but they don't seem as good, especially the noise reduction function. Can I fix Silkypix or is there another Linux software that is comparable?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am happy that the iPod touch works with Ubuntu 10.04 now an I can sync music to it now. But for the photos and videos I do not know what to do for those. I tried to use f-spot for it but it only closes the program. Can anyone help me on how to put photos and videos onto it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs a long-time Windows user, I have trouble zeroing in on many of the most basic tasks in Ubuntu. I have several dozen photos from my camera that I would like to rename in batches such as tulips01.jpg, tulips02.jpg, etc. In Windows I could highlight them and right-click to "rename" to do the lot. I understand that "renaming" is now changing a "property" but I cannot find the simple way to do an entire lot at a time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchased an iPod touch 4G running iOS 4.1 under the assumption that it would play nice with Ubuntu as stated here:..Devices/iPhone. It doesn't! I can't seem to get it to work. It shows up as a camera with 86MB of available space. I can access the photos that are on the device, but nothing else. I really would like to be able to transfer music to the device, but nothing seems to work. Rhythmbox doesn't even seem to recognize that it's there, the device isn't showing up in /media, and I can't seem to get a mount point. Has anybody out there had any success in this area? I've tried on both my 10.04 Desktop and 10.10 laptop machines
