View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed 11.04 as an upgrade to 10.10. Now, the back/forward buttons in Firefox have no icons, which means they're hard to find, and they're also much thinner than usual. Also, the home button has disappeared and I can't put it back from the customize menu. I've reinstalled Firefox to no avail.

I just installed the latest pidgin and pidgin-facebook-chat packages on Ubuntu 11.04 and I noticed that Facebook contacts are now treated as Jabber/XMPP contacts. Before today, I could easily distinguish which protocol my contacts were on, but this is no longer the case.Does anyone have any idea on how to set the protocol icon back to Facebook's logo?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to connect to a wireless AP, neither wicd or wifi-radar are able to obtain an IP. With wicd, a string of various hex/dec characters flow by, with an eventual error. This happens with both WEP and unencrypted APs (- the hex/dec). With wifi-radar it simply fails, but not every time. NetworkManager connects with zero problems every time; though I prefer to not use NetworkManager, so please spare me of such replies. Someone please tell me why there should be only one wireless manager in Ubuntu that works? I have used wicd since before gutsy gibbon, and it always worked fine until the last two versions, Lucid, and Karmic. What is occurring in Ubuntu which over time breaks these excellent applications? I have tried this with four different wireless cards, and all suffer either identical or similar issues. Those chipsets are Broadcom, two RealTeks, and an Intel.
I really wish to emphasize that this post is not a request for a lecture on why I should use only NetworkManager, or why I should go find another distro. With something like Linux, maybe we could push a little harder, and have maybe say, two, wireless managers that actually work? I would honestly like to see more than two, but one is not enough. It baffles me a bit why new versions of Ubuntu mangle some perfectly good applications, but not others. In IT, surely networking, IP4, WEP, basic wifi technology, etc. has not changed so much that every six months whole new programs should need to be written to connect to a wireless access point. Nor should old ones need much tweaking. What's going on? With such boastings of repositories abundant and brimming with free apps, why does anyone want to make NetworkManager the only app that works?
I'm running 64 bit openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. I would like to install Wi Fi Radar. where I can obtain the RPM for it? I have looked but can only find older versions of it for older versions of SUSE..
View 5 Replies View RelatedTo clarify, I am a windows user who is trying to free himself from the world of Microsoft. With this, there are a lot of programs that I run on my windows machine for tracking and monitoring severe weather that moves in to our area. As it turns out, every program that I run on my windows machine has zero support for linux. I already know about WINE & VM to run these particular programs, but what I am more interested in is seeing if anyone out there (preferably an active storm spotter or chaser) knows of any great programs for Ubuntu that can provide the same functionality and level of detail as say StormLab, InterWARN, or GRlevelX. I use my laptop heavily while out storm spotting for our city and such, so I need programs that are reliable and accurate. For now, I am still stuck using my windows machine when I go out for these storms, but I would really like to try and use Ubuntu on my next rainy day adventure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
Ive had a few freeze ups on this system but the last time it affected the top panel. The wireless icon has disappeared to be replaced by an extra bluetooth icon.screenshot attached. Is there any kind of clean up utility (like tune up utilities in win)Also, any kind of log so I can trace this freeze up Iḿ getting.Ive only just got this laptop so dont know if it did it before although prev owner never mentioned it.

The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though. The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).
