View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Lucid Lynx and have been trying to burn an MP3 file to a CD-R so I could listen to it in my car. I've tried Brasero, CD/DVD creator, KB3, GnomeBaker, and VLC, and all of them failed in one way or another. Since Brasero comes stock and people have more experience with that one, I think I might describe the troubles with it.
What happens is that it doesn't seem to recognize the blank medium inserted. I open a project (either Audio CD or Data CD), add the files I want to burn. Then it says, "Please insert a writable CD or DVD if you do not want to write to an image file." I insert a blank CD-R, and it spins it, but nothing changes. The pulldown at the bottom still only gives me the choice of writing an image file. No recognition that the blank medium has been inserted and that that is where I want to burn the file. When I hit the
"burn" button, it opens a dialog box, asking me where I want to locate the image file it has called "brasero.cue"
Not sure how to do further troubleshooting on this. When I tried the same thing in GnomeBaker, I got an error message saying the burning has failed. Here's the log file from that:
wodim: No write mode specified.
wodim: Assuming -tao mode.
wodim: Future versions of wodim may have different drive dependent defaults.
wodim: Operation not permitted. Warning: Cannot raise RLIMIT_MEMLOCK limits.
scsidev: '/dev/sr0'
devname: '/dev/sr0'

The burner works fine (as tested in Windows), and it reads CDs and DVDs no problem. I just can't get the burning to complete correctly. I have installed the restricted extras. I'm not really concerned WHICH program I use, I'd just like to be able to burn a CDs for road trips and whatnot.
I have a question regarding ubuntu installation. When I burn the ubuntu installation iso file to a CD-R, does it close the CD-R disc at the end(i.e. prevent writing more data to disc) or can I append more data to the disc in another session?

View 3 Replies View RelatedForgetting bad past experience (in debian i386 and amd64), I have newly lost a new DVD in trying to create a data disk with brasero with debian i386. After successful simulation at the lowest speed, burning failed and I expect that the disk is no more good (this occurred in the past). In the past I complained with debian, getting no answer.
In contrast, I tried k3b with full success. However, as a gnome user, installation of k3b brought in so much of kde that proper use of gnome was prevented. Can anyone tell of an installation of k3b that does not hinder gnome? In particular not the startx procedure (as I normally work without calling the x server).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 onto my Compaq Evo N1020v (quite old laptop) The installation seemed to install without any problems and all updates have been done in update manager. Ubuntu is the only operating system on the laptop. My problem is, neither of the file burning apps Brasero Disk Burner or Send to CD/DVD will detect my blank DVD's. Both apps detect the blank CD's without a problem. File browser is able to read data on this DVD type in fact I installed Ubuntu from a DVD of this type.

I have Ubuntu 11.04 with all updates installed.
I can not burn any cd / dvd with Braseo, GnomeBaker, nautilus burner, etc.
The discs are "apparently" normally recorded
But then Ubuntu or DVDPlayer does not recognize the DVD or CD I burned.
Conclusion: Waste DVDs because they are unusable and I can not record.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having sort of an odd problem trying to burn Cds through Rhythmbox on 9.10. Sometimes it has no problem burning the disc, but lately after I hit "burn" nothing happens and my fan starts running really loud. I think the disc just sits there spinning.
I can still burn discs using brasero, but it seems to be taking a lot longer than it should be. I'm hoping someone might have a quick fix for burning playlists straight from rhythmbox.
I've burned iso CDs for 8.10, 9.04, 9.10, Linux Mint 5, 6, 7 with Brasero. In addition I've burned music CDs with Brasero. It has worked well for me. But now I can't burn a 10.04 iso CD. I REALLY want to get a CD burned so I can install Lucid Lynx.
don't suggest I try kb3, Gnomebaker, or some other burner.. Brasero which always worked before.
The applications normally installed, like Brasero or GnomeBaker, seem to know just to burn audio CDs. I found in Package Manager three other applications with promising names (mp3burn, mp3roaster, mp3cd), but they also burn audio CDs... from mp3 files. What I want is to burn mp3 CDs playable on stereo systems, using mp3 files, or even converting from audio CDs or files (like for instance with Nero in Windows). Is there any solution?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have lost my Karmic CD and have already used it to create a persistent LiveUSB. http://thpc.info/dual/vista/dualboot..._on_vista.html Yes, I do want to use EasyBCD instead of GRUB, its to risky for me and I am shivering just thinking about it.
I feel really stupid here. I've looked around but no fix I can figure out. I downloaded a i386 iso of Ubuntu to install on my daughter's laptop and I can't get the CD/DVD Creator on my main computer to burn it to either CD or DVD.
I *know* I've done it before but maybe that was on Jaunty not Lucid which I have on my computer now.
I can load the iso file into CD/DVD Creator and when I get to the "Write to disc" option it says: "Write disc to: FILE IMAGE" and there is no option to write it to my CD/DVD drive. It's as if the DVD writer is not mounted.
EDIT: The md5 checksum is fine, by the way..
