View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Lucid Lynx and have been trying to burn an MP3 file to a CD-R so I could listen to it in my car. I've tried Brasero, CD/DVD creator, KB3, GnomeBaker, and VLC, and all of them failed in one way or another. Since Brasero comes stock and people have more experience with that one, I think I might describe the troubles with it.
What happens is that it doesn't seem to recognize the blank medium inserted. I open a project (either Audio CD or Data CD), add the files I want to burn. Then it says, "Please insert a writable CD or DVD if you do not want to write to an image file." I insert a blank CD-R, and it spins it, but nothing changes. The pulldown at the bottom still only gives me the choice of writing an image file. No recognition that the blank medium has been inserted and that that is where I want to burn the file. When I hit the
"burn" button, it opens a dialog box, asking me where I want to locate the image file it has called "brasero.cue"
Not sure how to do further troubleshooting on this. When I tried the same thing in GnomeBaker, I got an error message saying the burning has failed. Here's the log file from that:
wodim: No write mode specified.
wodim: Assuming -tao mode.
wodim: Future versions of wodim may have different drive dependent defaults.
wodim: Operation not permitted. Warning: Cannot raise RLIMIT_MEMLOCK limits.
scsidev: '/dev/sr0'

The burner works fine (as tested in Windows), and it reads CDs and DVDs no problem. I just can't get the burning to complete correctly. I have installed the restricted extras. I'm not really concerned WHICH program I use, I'd just like to be able to burn a CDs for road trips and whatnot.
I have a question regarding ubuntu installation. When I burn the ubuntu installation iso file to a CD-R, does it close the CD-R disc at the end(i.e. prevent writing more data to disc) or can I append more data to the disc in another session?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI often use dvdbackup to mirror dvd's to my harddrive. I used to use k3b to burn them to disks. The problem is I no longer use kde, and I realy hate installing kde apps these days, since they seem totaly bloated. Brassero isn't smart enough to take a directory with a dvd's file structure mirrored into it, and burn this as a video dvd. Is there a way to convert such a directory into an iso from the command line so brassero can handle it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem while burning a CD-Extra (audio+data in two seperate sessions) in k3b 1.68.0~alpha3-0ub on Karmic. The audio tracks are being burned and the session is closed, but k3b does not start burning the second session. There is the last status message in the log: "Searching previous session" and one near the progress bar: "Closing session". Normally it should close the audio session, eject the burner for resetting his state and begin burning the second session. But in fact it just stops, instead of burning the second session. My only option is to cancel.
I already tried to add -eject into the user options of wodim/cdrecord. It ejects, but it didn't help. The first (audio-)session nevertheless is correctly burned, only the second (data-)session is missing. I tried to switch the writing app to cdrdao (option in k3b), but in this mode k3b dies with a segmentation fault. Only "auto" or "cdrecord" mode works. (In fact "auto" chooses cdrecord). There doesn't seem to be a different version of k3b available in synaptic to try out. I switched over from gentoo, where k3b worked. Unfortunately I cannot remember the exact version of k3b in gentoo. The system was approx. 1 year old.
PS: Is there a native Gnome/GTK app that does CD-Extra? Brasero and GnomeBaker do not support it yet.

Used DeVeDe to take a Avi that was 700mb which is now a 2gb iso file which will open fine with VLC player with the custom menu I made and the movie plays fine but K3b will not burn the to the media and I tried several blank disk of the same media now and no luck. I don't have any other media to try but this same media worked fine with K3b before and recent so I don't know but I never tried it using it like this before meaning with DeVeDe.

A severe problem with Rhythmbox. You cannot burn playlist. I've looked at bug reports and they just give you the run around. Nothing in the forums except to go to something else. That is no solution to the problem. I can't believe this problem is being ignored. Nothing comes up on search.how these applications got so screwed up from one version to the other and what the cure is?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI ripped 2 music CDs for a total of 78 minutes, but K3b won't burn them to a blank CD-R. It says the free space in temporary folder is 615.5 MB, but the size of project is 691.5 MB. I don't know why the tmp directory is that small when I have 615 GB free on my filesystem. When I start the burn, it simply says copying, but nothing shows up in the progress bars. I am able to burn direct copies of CDs, however. After a couple of tries and a couple of successful burns of entire CDs, I tried again, and it crashed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe reason I want to do this is simple- I spent a good day or two converting my mp3s to oggs, both to save space and because I prefer the codec for listening. So, as you would lose audio fidelity by straight transcoding, I loaded the mp3s in Audacity and exported them as OGGs to retain quality.Of course, this takes forever, and isn't very practical.A common way for people to strip DRM in Windows or on OS X is to burn their collection from the DRM program to a fake CD drive which a secondary program simulatneously rips back into another format.I'd like to use this same method, to burn all my mp3s at once to a massive audio CD image, an iso, then somehow mount it and rip it all back as a different format in one fell swoop. However, I'm unaware of any tools that can do this, or if it's a simple matter of mounting a fake CD filesystem.
