Ubuntu :: Graphics Not Working On Startup?

Jul 2, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 through WUBI, but when the installation finished and I went to turn the computer on to Ubuntu, I could not get graphics working. It would appear that the resolution has been set super-high somehow, because a message will pop up saying that I don't have enough video memory to run at the resolution I'm trying. I have tried xfix in recovery modeI don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I'm using a very old monitor.

Ubuntu :: Freezes The Graphics Get A Bit Messed Up + Bug At Startup

Apr 23, 2010

I am trying to install Xubuntu on a old toshiba satellite A55. I threw in the live CD and did the try without any changes to your computer. The starts to load, when it finishes loading, and I can finally start poking around it freezes right away. When it freezes the graphics get a bit messed up, little ghost images next to their actual image appear (like a second icon of the same thing slightly offset, and blue/white) I had the same problem with Mint. Only thing I have been able to get running is puppy linux.

Laptop info:
Celeron M CPU
roughly 750mb ram

Ubuntu :: Autorun Graphics Application At Startup

I have an embedded PC104 application where I am trying to get my program to start automatically at power up. The program contains a graphical user interface, using an old SVGALIB (no longer supported). It works fine if I start it after log in.But when I put the path in rc.local, it will only run if I disable all the graphical stuff. The program bunts if it looks ahead and sees the call to vga_setmode(), where I set it for 480 x 640 resolution.

Ubuntu :: Changed Graphics Resolution In STARTUP MANAGER ?

Jan 17, 2010

I just stupidly changed my graphics resolution in System - Preferences - Startup Manager, now i dont get a login window or anything just a black screen. I also disabled the splash but i assume this just gets rid of the ubuntu loading line thingy?

The weird thing is that the resolution was set to 640x800 or something like that in the Startup Manager as default and the laptom im using (an old Toshiba Amilo P4) supports 1024x768. the System - Preferences - Display menu wouldnt let me change any display settings which is why i was messing about here. I havent got any backed up x org file and only a live usb of super os/ubuntu - no cd or floppy drive.

Fedora :: Firefox Graphics Different Depending On Whether It Starts Normally Or From Startup

Apr 22, 2010

trying to get Firefox working properly. I have the tarball installed from Firefoxs site and am using Fedora 12 with KDE as the desktop environment. The problem is if I start Firefox normally, say, by just clicking on the firefox script, then the graphics will be rather crude; but when Firefox starts as soon as I log in (because Ive configured it to auto-start) then the graphics will be nice and smooth. Im having a hard time trying to find answers for this because Im not exactly sure whats happening? I think when it auto-starts as I log in, itll use... well, this is the bit I havent got a clue how to explain? Id guess one time it uses QT, and the other time itll use GTK.

I dont know why its doing this, and when its started normally and I go to shutdown most of the time itll come up with a crash report. There isnt any difference in the way Firefox is being opened, the auto-start calls upon the same script that my shortcut uses, which is the same as clicking on the firefox script in the firefox folder. I have a few images attached to elucidate the problem. I understand I may not have made myself very clear, but Im having a great deal of trouble understanding what precisely is going on.

Firefox can seem a bit glitchy when the crude graphics are in use. Like the mouse-overs which leave traces of the box behind when you move the mouse away. So Im having to logout then back in if Ive happened to close Firefox and want to reopen it...

Ubuntu Installation :: Get Kubuntu Boot Screen At Startup - Low Graphics Mode By Default

Jul 19, 2010

I wanted to update my NVIDIA Drivers from the default to 256 (or whatever the latest is on their site). After the upgrade from their site and installing it through a command line, I've had trouble. For some reason, whenever I boot, I get the Kubuntu boot screen, even though I run plain Ubuntu. Also, after I boot it defaults to low graphics mode, and I have to hit "restart X" to make it run normal. Even then, visual effects won't enable, and games won't run, because apparently the "hardware device cannot be found". My attempts to revert back to old drivers have been unsuccessful; It says it's running the recommended right now, but I still have all these problems.

General :: Graphics Card - Graphical Corruption During Startup And Shutdown?

Jan 16, 2010

For the last month, when starting up or shutting down my laptop under Linux, I would get graphical corruption. Startup has an colour inverted, grainy rendition of what should be displayed while shutdown has a red background with all the text replaced by grey rectangles.

At the very least this affects Fedora, Ubuntu and Xubuntu. Windows is not affected. Outside of startup/shutdown the system is fine.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 855gme Graphics 9.10 Tv Not Working?

Jan 20, 2010

I have just recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old M35X-S149 Toshiba laptop which uses the 855gme graphics set. I am very happy with it so far and after a bit of forum searching was even able to get it to connect to my wifi. However, I am now trying to hook it to my TV using an S-video cable which worked ok when it was windows and I cant seem to get it to work. I have searched forums quite a bit and almost all resolutions seem to revolve around xorg.conf which i cannot find where it is supposed to be located. I did some more searching and found some commands to run to get one created in 9.10 and it didnt seem to create the file.

I am an extreme novice when it comes to linux related stuff, but am usually pretty good at following directions, so I was a bit disappointed that I could not get it to workOh and also, if anyone knows - is there a good replacement for autohotkey for ubuntu?I am basically writing macros to search for an image on screen and then click a button. Its not a huge deal as i still have a windows machine i can do that on, but it would be nice to have

Ubuntu :: No Options Working In Low Graphics Mode

Feb 15, 2011

I recently uninstalled some unnecessary libs thinking that I could work around without them. It turned out I couldn't. So I installed every single one, and it seemed like everything was working fine. But then I tried to boot, and was thrown into a low-graphics. Well I tried to boot in a low-graphics environment temporarily but it turned out X just restarted. Then I tried to reconfigure the settings, but choosing any option it threw me back into the last menu without any action being taken.

So I googled up some lines it was vomiting at me and it indeed might be my xorg not configured properly. but every time I try to reconfigure it and I look into the .conf file it turns out it is completely blank. maybe I should also note I am sporting a 64 bit bubuntu, not an NVidia though, Intel Series 4 express chipset family thing. I think it is a GMA4500MHD but not sure, what shall I do so that I don't have to reinstall my beautiful pimped out system?

Ubuntu :: ATI Graphics Card Controller Not Working Properly

Mar 31, 2011

I'm having a problem here with my graphics card. Until not very long ago I was using the controller Ubuntu downloaded for me. However I recently downloaded another one from the ATI page, called ati-driver-installer-11-3-x86.x86_64.run and installed it.
So far, I've encountered two new problems:

1. The ATI Catalyst Control Center would not open after I setup the Tear Free Desktop.

2. The computer is running slow. Files take longer to open, minimizing and maximizing windows takes longer. Wi-fi connection takes longer to connect, etcetera. Overall, everything is going slow.

Are these problems related? I would like to uninstall the driver as the computer was working just fine before. In addition to this, I have firefox 4.0 and the colors on most of the images are darker than they should. The images look fine on other browsers except firefox. I read I had to do type "about:config" in the address bar, find "gfx.color_management.mode" and change the value from 2 to 0. What did I exactly do there? I took the advice from this thread: [URL]

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Graphics Card Not Working - No Screen Output

Oct 12, 2010

Just fitted an Inno3D (I-7300LE-G4E3) graphics card and I get a distorted boot up screen, a virtually unreadble boot menu (lots of extra white bits all over the screen) and when the system is booting the black screen with "booting from .." and the underscore at the end, is covered with white commas (?!), then the login screen pops up for a fraction of a second, then get a blank screen and no signal-cant get anything after this (or from the vga port on the pc)-I ve tried logging in even though I cant see anything, but no music , nothing.

Thought I might have to download drievers AFTER I d installed it, but as I had this problem, I removed it and tried to download driers before installation. Not sure which of the 4 to try, but tried 2 and neither works-GDebi is offered as an app to open them but nothing happens, nothing happens if I just click on them and when I try and install them from a terminal with the script from the nVidia site, it says unable to open them.

Ubuntu :: Get The Graphics Working Correctly - Driver Compatibility And The Kernel

Aug 24, 2010

I am trying to get the graphics working correctly on an old HP Compac d220 mt machine that has an Intel 82845G Graphics Controller.

[Code]...

The latest driver I can find is: Intel(R) Graphics Driver - Linux*[IntelGraphics_060704.tar.gz] dated 12/17/2004 Version 20041217 When I started to install this driver I got a message that said that it was compatible with kernel version 2.4.(+ numbers I don't remember) So I stopped the installation. My question is what will / could happen if I go ahead and try to complete the driver install? Will I hose the entire system? I am fiddling with the kernel if I continue to install the driver.

IF it does break, would it be possible to undo the driver install using the text based root console with networking via the recovery option or will that too be inoperable if I hose the system. Should it break and I can get to the recovery option and open a terminal. How would i uninstall it? I am just getting reacquainted with Linux again after 20 years. I am not using the advanced package management tool to install the driver. The driver has it's own installation script. (have not looked to see if it has an uninstall script in the file list) I won't be able apt-get remove or dpkg purge anything.

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Get Xgi/sis Graphics Card Working

Jul 30, 2010

I have a z9 volari Graphics card that opensuse 1.2 is recognising but the xgi driver is not present. I get the following when I startx:

auth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.4650

X.Org X Server 1.6.5
Release Date: 2009-10-11
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX

[Code]....

Perhaps my last post about this was too long and hence why nobody responded. So i will try and keep it simple and let the experts advise me.

I have tried installing an rpm that I got from rpm search. Namely xorg-x11-driver-video-xgi-1.5.0-6.1.i586 which seemed to install but when I did a query it said it was not installed, but when I tried to do an install again it said it was already installed ??

There is also a file called xserver-xorg-video-sis_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz which i got from this site. I have not managed to extract it properly yet but will look into that myself. It appears to have in it a makefile, so I presume it is source files and I could really do with some help in that.

For example, if I click on a graphic I have inserted or on a chart, the page on my screen may shift up or down by a half inch or so. If I click back out in a text area, the page moves back to where it was. This is very annoying. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Here's what happens when I run startx manually:

Release Date: 2014-12-20
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 x86_64 Debian

Note also that this whole time, gdm3 has been running:

Fedora :: Graphics Chipset Stopped Working - Causes Kernel Crash ?

Jul 13, 2009

My graphics card (00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03))

used to work fine, but yesterday I opened glest and it crashed my computer within 5 seconds. No picture was ever displayed. I downloaded another 3D game called Nogravity (Glest being my only one, I wanted something else to test) and it crashed after a few minutes of play and I had to restart. After all the crashes kerneloops came up with a report.

Here is the most recent one:

Code:

I did recently notice that I have no direct 3D rendering, it comes up with something like: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT SET)

I do not know whether I used to have it, but I do know that 3D apps used to run perfectly well. (In fact the stability of 3D apps was what converted me from Ubuntu where they crashed every 5 minutes)

I ran glxgears for 5 seconds and it gave me 420 FPS.
