Aug 19, 2009A couple of weeks ago, my keypad stopped working. Not only the numbers, but all keys there. I heard it is a setting in Gnome, but I can't seem to find it.

Fedora :: Gnome-system-monitor Won't Close Anymore
Aug 1, 2011Since one of the recent updates, I cannot close the System Monitor anymore. Opening it, no problem. All processes are listed just fine and I can force close anything that gives me trouble but... When I want to close System Monitor again, nothing. Qtrl + Q, the X close button at the top right, Alt + F4... all do nothing. And although each time I see some disk activity, there is nothing in the logs.
Another thing I notice is that both dbus-daemon and gnome-system-monitor use about 40% CPU time each, taking the system to 100% CPU usage all the time.Luckily, I have System Monitor open so I can select the process gnome-system-monitor from the list and hit Terminate Process. I did not find anything about it in these forums. Anyone noticed this too or am I the only one?

Jan 20, 2011I have a keypad with a numeric part to it (as well as the traditional numbers above the alpha keys)It stopped working after I installed Moonlight - and although I have uninstalled Moonlight it is still not working (I may be wrong that Moonlight was the problem, but I can't think of anything else)The number lock indicator still lights up, but there is no response to any numeric input. With the number lock key off, the alternative actions (cursor up, down, etc) work normally.

Ubuntu :: Can't Make Use Of Gnome Log File Viewer Anymore
Mar 26, 2010I can't make use of the Gnome log file viewer anymore. Seconds after I start it, it will gray out and proceed to steadily lay claim to all my available RAM. It doesn't matter which log I choose, or if I don't choose one at all. Same thing. I have 1GB RAM, and when I took the included screencap the log viewer had taken almost 80% of it. It was at 90% before I forced a shutdown of the process. Does anyone have the slightest idea what might be causing this?

Ever since that gnome-terminal doesn't recognize the shortcuts keys like <ctrl>r or <ctrl>c and I get my other language charecters instead. thats happen with any keyboard layout I swith to. Furthermore, <alt><ctrl>+F1...F9 doesn't work either.

Jul 24, 2010I installed Burg and it worked for some time. I installed some apps that I can't remember anymore and closed my comp. I restarted my computer today and Burg does not work anymore, Grub just start like before. I tried to reinstalled Burg and it changed nothing. When I check Burg-emu it shows me the right thing, like if Burg was working. Did it happened to somebody else?

Oct 4, 2010After a lot of work I succeeded in making my Icon 225 Mobile Broadband working under Linux, so I immediately took advantage of this by updating my system.But unfortunately not everything went well. I have to say something:in Linux when you solved a problem another one pops up. And this is what happened to me. The first problem was the following error message: PackageKit Error repo-not-available: File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium [URL]
It seems that in the Online update system there is a error: or the address is wrong or something is not working as it should be. Anyway I got over it and the system started to download the updates and so on. At the end the system asked me to reboot and I did it. Unfortunately a cold shower was waiting me : the KDE interface did not work anymore, the only thing I could see was something like a fog all around the video. The mouse cursor was a dark square. I was still able to hear the welcome sound so I deduced that only the graphic interface was corrupted. I rebooted again and when the system show me the booting choices:
1) Desktop opensuse 11.3-2.6.34.7-0.3
2) Failsafe opensuse 11.3-2.6.34.7-0.3
3) windows 1
4) windows 2
5) Floppy
I chose this time the second one (I think it is like a safe mode)and fortunately it worked but the system looked like having lost brightness (I think this choice change the card driver). Now I do not know why the KDE inrface got corrupted, because I download everything from the opesuse website, so no strange repository has been installed. I checked in the little manual supplied with the DVD and I found the following suggestion: If the KDE interface got corrupted please try to remove the cache files of the KDE desktop using the following command rm -rf /tmp/kde-user /tmp/ksocket-user

I didn't use it for a long time. But the last time I checked it Under Ubuntu, cheese was able to read from it & gstreamer properties also tested it successfully.
But now that I need the webcam, I can't get it work
gstreamer properties says " Video for Linux 2 (v4l2): Could not negotiate format".
Is this webcam not supported now ?

It seems as though one of the updates made a mess of Skype this time. well done.
Ok so here is what's happening.
First i have to say that to get my sound card working i needed to upgrade ALSA. Everyhting was running fine until....NOW.
I haven't used Skype in a while but now i thought lets use it a bit. I start up Skype there is sound. but then suddenly sound is gone. video is just fine. sound is gone completelly from Skype. mic doesn't work and neither do spekers, eventhough upon launch everything works. i can't even do a test call. in fact i could do it once but the sound was messy.
also the skype seems to have crashed as i can't exit it at all. it's just keeps running as process.
anyone had something similar? any solutions? i would post this on Skype forums, but since Skype worked before and now it doesn't anymore i believe it is Ubuntu issue.
I am running Ubutnu 10.04.

Mar 1, 2010I'm a newbie in Linux (ubuntu) environment. Well my prob started as I tried to install several w-lan applications. I tried them out and deleted them again. Till (I don't remember the name of the prog) I finally shoot "network manager". I tried some things like:
Second installation of ubuntu to get back internet.
Downloaded some deb files and installed them in off-line mode.
But it doesn't work because some not satisfiable things happened now I tried to fix over USB live to fix it no chance. What I need is a possibility to install from USB on my first system or boot system one and USB on the same time to use the internet per switching or something like that. Maybe it's possible to update my system wile the USB system is running? Or is there a possibility to use the ubuntu CD and install all needet packages from there because network manager is already in Ubuntu. I think that all OS company's have to think about that , when they deliver a OS that you can choose or afterwords reinstall progs from the original source ...or what?
Fedora :: Cannot Get It Working Under F14 Gnome?
Jan 24, 2011I like using vnstat to check my downloads. I have it working on my other installed distro's but for some weird reason I cannot get it working under Fedora 14 Gnome. Set up the same way, it tells you exactly what to type when you first run vnstat so its not that. But I try to run vnstat after setting the DB for eth1 I get this:
Code: eth1: Not enough data available yet. This is at least 30 gig later and 4 days it would be great. Or any commands I can run to give more info. Was not really sure what else to give on this matter.

Mar 23, 2010I have an HP dv4 1313dx, pavilion notebook computer. The Built in webcam seems to work OK, but I have absolutely no sound registering when I speak over webchat , or over just sound recordings when I talk at the computer. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or not. I upgraded to 10.4 beta because 9.10 wouldn't let me run my wireless card. So upgrading to the new beta version solved that, but as I said I noticed the built in mic on my notebook isn't picking up any sound. This is whether I'm using Skype, sound recorder, or AMSN for webchats.

Oct 18, 2010I am using Fedora 13 x86_64 on my notebook.I have been using this for quite sometime now. I have a problem with the Gnome desktop. Here is what happenedI am using gnome with a single panel on the top. I changed the properties of the panel, made it transparent and then changed its position to the bottom. As soon as i did this, my desktop was not responding. I can move the mouse pointer, but the icons and menus and everything else became inactive. Within a minute the music playing in the background stopped working. None of the keyboard shortcuts are working. I waited for sometime but nothing happened, so I restarted the system.
Once I login after restart, the same problem is repeating, nothing loads up. I can just see the default background and the mouse pointer rotating as it does when some process is going on. But nothing loads up even after waiting for 15mins. Right now I am using Xfce which is working perfectly fine. Can someone help me with this.??---------- Post added at 04:01 PM GMT ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 AM GMT --------UPDATEI tried fixing it by uninstalling the gnome desktop and reinstalling it.I did the following command in terminal > yum remove gnome-desktopand it removed several dependancies too. I restarted the system and not even the loginscreen is showing up now.I am trying to install gnome from my fedora live CD. But I cannot figure out how.
Fedora :: Screensavers Not Working In F14 Gnome
Dec 30, 2010I just noticed that my screensaver was not working in Fedora 14 x86_64 / Gnome. I searched in Yumex on "screensaver" and reinstalled all that were marked as installed, but no joy. Not only does the screensaver not come on (it is set to 30 minutes) but if I go into Preferences > Screensaver and click on one of the choices it does not display the selected screensaver in the preview window. That is, none of them display except Floating Feet and Floating Fedora Bubbles. What is going on is to discover where those two screensavers come from as opposed to the others. i.e., what packages are they from?

I am not sure if it was by default middle was mouse was "pressing 2 buttons on eachside at the same time" or I did set up manually using Xmod or similar tool. I might have even set up in the hal settings.
