Does anyone else have the problem with Natty 64 bit, where when apps are opened up in full screen its not filling the screen properly, until the app in minimized & maximized again? Unity works fine, this is only an issue in classic mode.
View 4 RepliesI'm using gnome shell 3.4.2.1 from the stable debian repository. 2 problems with the gnome-tweak-tool:
1) The extensions list is empty, even when the gnome-shell-extensions package is installed
2) in the non-classic mode only, setting made in the tool have no effect: e.g. Shell->Show date in clock does not toggle the date in the clock.

I upgraded to 11.04 recently
I run 2 monitors, 1800x1200 and 1720x1180 approx (not exactly sure, but they are different)
I like to have many windows open on both screens.
The system keeps switching windows to fullscreen mode when I want to be able to see 5 or 6 partial windows on each screen.
It seems that if I align the edge of a window to the top of the screen, it switches to fullscreen mode, which is the last thing I want it to do.
Funnily enough, if I move a window to the edge of the screen, I want to be able to see the other windows on that screen. If I want fullscreen mode I hit the fullscreen icon; otherwise I want the size to stay the same. I dont want the window manager ever to arbitrarily give me fullscreen mode.
How can I stop this unwanted behaviour which is new to 11.04 ?
I have to admit that for my purposes the classic desktop is head and shoulders better than the default 11.04 desktop, but how did the release process manage to trash the earlier release's excellent desktop. Was Beta feedback totally ignored ? Rhetorical question, but hopefully someone up there listens.

I have updated my ubuntu to the following kernel: 2.6.31-20. There has been several other update such as compiz that I do not have installed.Anyway, now I gnome doesn't work properly - at least I think it is Gnome, I cannot switch between windows, I do not have the bar on top with the cross and all I only have one desktop loaded out of 4 and the computer is continuously working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOne day, I was altering the size of the icons to make them smaller. I first made them larger (to 150%), and then shrunk them down to 66%. I did this through Nautilus while being in the /var/www folder. The Desktop icons resized down to the 66%, as well as all other icons. However, the icons in the /var/www folder remained large (at the 150%). I've tried changing it, and no change occurs in the particular folder.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 11.04, to find that I don't like Unity. I want to get back to normal Gnome, but on the login screen, when I select "Classic mode", it gets into Unity anyway.
I also tried to un-check Unity Plugin in Compiz Settings, without success. "Classic mode (no effects)" works great, but like it says, there is no effects at all...
Ok not sure what is up or how to get it back, the desktop is stuck in classic mode. I want to continue testing with Unity, i think the classic mode is like gnome.i was/am considering switching all my home systems to Ubuntu and want to see if the wife can get accustom to Linux.New user btw, so please bare with me.FYI I think the wife can get used to Unity since it reminds her of an Android
View 6 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu 11.04 (not beta) and switched to classic mode since it is really slow for some reason.i tried to go in update manager to see if it might fix it,but there arent any new updates.i also checked additional drivers which showed up nothing.when i had 10.10 it was quick and responsive,but 11.04 just makes me want to go back to the old version.can this be a video driver problem that its going slow?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI spent a good amount of time setting up 11.04 the way i like it to run in classic mode with my firewire soundcard acting right and the apps i like. I added some new repositories yesterday and did an update and after that i restarted and all of the sudden ubuntu classic mode isn't even a choice any longer and unity is acting really strange and doesn't look right.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI decided to put a copy of Ubuntu 11.04 on a USB stick. Downloaded the image file and USB installer and built the stick with no problems. I REALLY don't like the new interface, so I went to the login screen tool and changed the login to come up in Classic mode. Trouble is, now when I try to bring the system up I'm presented with a log-in screen that asks for a user name and password. Since I'm using a live image (akin to a live CD) I don't have any user name or password established. Are there defaults that will allow me to log in? Or do I have to recreate the installation and create a user account that will let me log in?

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing the Nvidia driver from the repo on a Geforce 6800gs. In Kde4 all 3d applications seem to be working properly so I don't know why Gnome 3 is doing that myself. It wasn't working at all at one point and I am assuming that some update or another got it going. Perhaps a repo switch. Unfortunately I am not sure of what those changes may be. I just know that it does run now but only in fallback.

Is there a kernel parameter that would do this? In searching, all I can find is the selection during login, but this seems to only show up after a full installation, I want to do this in the Live CD environment.

If I open a program, say LibreOffice or firefox it opens correctly.
If I move the window to the second screen, it switches to fullscreen mode.
If I click on the resize button, then it opens correctly, but on the first screen

Whenever I play a video via vlc or kaffeine and I switch to full screen I get lag. If I move my mouse to show the controls it plays perfectly. How can I fix my full screen playback issues?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed this new Ubuntu 11.04 and I must say its horrible. Not because of the "Unity", but lack of support for multiple monitors. They work in "Gnome Classic", but the problem is there is many bugs. First bug is that any windows I open do not have borders or title bars, and only open in top left corner of the screen. On top of that, I can't type anything in those opened screens like when I open terminal for example. Second bug is that I can't add any new items to panels on other separate screens. As soon as I try to add anything, I get the following errors. "Indicator Applet Complete" has quit unexpectedly. So 11.04 failed for me I'm afraid. At this point I can't use it. This is very said because I was looking forward in running new version of Ubuntu. Its very strange that Ubuntu programmers don't have multiple screens by now to test ubuntu properly. As for Unity, nothing to talk about there. Its pure "Vista" style like screw up. It only works well on laptop or single monitor. I guess all I can do now, is wait again for 11.10 and hope all bugs will be fixed by then to support multiple monitors like 10.10 does now. Also, this will teach me installing new ubuntu version every six months LOL With all the bugs new ubuntu version comes out .04 releases is not worth it. Better wait at least in till .04.1 comes or even .10 versions. fix "Gnome Classic" so it will support multiple screens again. I think its something to do with Compiz, because windows decorations is not working on separate screens.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, and now i can't view any flash video in fullscreen mode (videos, atdhe, etc.). when i click on fullscreen firefox crashes instantly. everything was working fine in 9.10.
i looked around on the forums; i tried to install the flash-aid extension for firefox. it says that my architecture is 32bit, then reinstalls the flash plugin, but that doesn't help; fullscreen still crashes. i also tried to install the 64bit version from adobe's website, but that doesn't help.
i had a look at the mozilla website [url] i tried to preload the libgl.so.1 library as suggested there, but that doesn't help. i wanted to try to disable hardware acceleration in the flash player settings, but i can't even change the settings; when i right-click on settings, the adobe small preferences screen appears but i can't click on anything, nothing works.
that's all on ubuntu 10.04 with firefox 3.6.3 and flash player 10,0,45,2. i also installed the newer 10.1 flashplayer plugin from the adobe website, but firefox still crashes.
I have a weird problem in my Aspire One D150 with an Intel 945 GME, and in my HP DV5 with an Intel GM45. When i put a window like Firefox in full screen mode (F11), and try to get into a menu, or an auto-complete option or trying to access a URL in the history of the address bar, results in a black blink that its very annoying, because it happens all the time.
This problem appears in the most GTK Apps that i run in full screen mode. QT Works perfect. If the composite its off, works perfect in both.
This happens in KDE 4.3.5 and KDE 4.4.1, so I have no clue about this. I want my composite on, and make that the GTK Apps work as well as the QT ones.
I am wondering if my 10.10 Gnome settings, preferences, color schemes, themes and so on will remain after installing 11.04 and selecting Classic as the default? These live in a separate /home partition, which I obviously will not be formatting.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to 11.04 and am running the Classic interface as I don't like Unity.However, I have noticed so far two areas where this Classic version has gone backwards from the default Gnome in 10.10 and earlier.I can't rearrange window buttons on the Window list, nor can I drag-and-drop say FLAC files onto the button for "Movie Player" any more -they end up pinned on the panel!How can I get back the ability to drag window buttons around and and turn off the annoying pinning feature and get drag-and-drop back?

I have searched and tried several solutions for similar issues but those have not worked. More info can be provided as requested.This problem began after installing Lubuntu as an alternative DE and I have since removed it but the problem remains. I could have, in the time that I have been searching, re-installed Ubuntu but wanted to resolve this problem. The OS is on my laptop and I do not have any data that would be lost. The system has been setup with a separate /home partition so necessary/needed data will not be lost.
