I'm running a program which needs to access some files from my folder '/usr/local/lib/grads'. I have the folder in place, but it's throwing an error when I the program tries to access them. Further, I'm not allowed to look at the folder unless I'm logged in as a super user, so I'm guessing this is the problem that the program is having. How can I give permissions on this folder?
My program is to find the values of variables using matrices and in matrices using GAUSS ELIMINATION method. It gives segmentation fault then I input the values of coefficients of the variables.
#include<stdio.h> void main() { int n; int i,j,l; float m;
I have a program what creates files with a certain user and group as owner. How do I make files created by this program belong to a group I specify myself (I know I can chown and chgrp and chmod but I want the files to have a certain group from the beginning). Also I like to be able to specify permissions for these files.
Btw. it's not my own program so cant change the source code of the program to solve my problem.
Looking for some help writing a simple script on my dapper server. I want the script to play a short 5 second wmv sound file. So I can tell another program to run the script. I have the file for Conky Wizard ver.1 but in order to run it to make it executable. From what I know, I'm supposed to right click the file and press properties thego to permissions and check "allow executing as program" However, this option is missing. Here is the link to the ConkyWizard Ver1 Beta 1 file.
A bunch of my .rtf files suddenly (within the last few days, not sure when) have the "Allow Executing File as Program" box checked under their file Permissions. So whenever I try to open an rtf document, it asks if I want to run it. What's up with that?
Finally I managed to install my printer/scanner drivers. The last thing I need to do is to add the following two lines to 40-libsane.rules (which is a read only file):# Brother scanners ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes".How can I change permissions for this file or add these lines without changing permissions?
Problem: permissions for rsync and BackinTime. Setup: Ubuntu 11.04, Two internal HD, #1=main, single boot, #2=backup drive. Question: How do I set up my 2nd HD with correct permissions? Background: I had previously a dual boot XP+10.04 with a 2nd HD formatted as NTFS. With this I was able to use my rsync and backintime to my 2nd HD with no issue. My new set up is EXT4 on both HD.
(I even tried to reformat my 2nd HD as NTFS, but that didnt fix the issue) I followed [URL] to mount the 2nd HD and get permissions. But now when I run backintime i get this error: [E] Error: rsync: opendir "/home/myhome/.ssh" failed: Permission denied (13) I did my requisite reading for a newbie, and am stuck. I ran backintime as root, and it backed up ok. How do I run my user version of backintime? (i.e. How do I fix the permission issue?)
I have a problem with my external hdd, I mounted it manually and in the mount table it says ive got rw permissions. But when i try to change permissions it says:

This is my mount table:
[root@localhost ExtHDD]# mount /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 on / type ext3 (rw) none on /proc type proc (rw) none on /sys type sysfs (rw)

I have changed nothing about the configuration of my checkgmail except for the icons. And yet, whenever I click on the subject of an email, it gives me a 404 error. When I use the links (delete, spam, archive, mark read) it does what it is supposed to do, but it does not allow me to view the content of a message. Does anybody have any idea of what could be causing this strange behavior? Gnome. 10.04. x64.
Alright I've got 2 hard drives in my computer and one of them has no data on it so I have to mount it to open it and once I do this it asks for a password to mount it.
I've set-up a Linksys WPC54G v5 wireless card using ndiswrapper and the appropriate Marvell driver. It seems to work ok. On my other laptop running Kubuntu with built-in wireless the routing all works fine - I just get prompted by Network Manager for the WPA passphrase and I'm away. However, when I try to connect to my wireless router on thix Xubuntu-based laptop I get really odd security options.
When I try to connect I get a security prompt asking me for a bewildering array of information. There are four basic authentication options under "WPA & WPA2 Enterprise": TLS, LEAP, Tunnelled TLS and Protected EAP. None of those offers a simple passphrase, they all have some combination of username & password with certificates and keys. If I try to connect to other networks in my area, some do just ask for a WPA passphrase, not that I know them to check!
I'm trying to make Firestarter launch as a startup application but it tells me that I need root privileges when logging in with my one and only account!
Can this be achieved without giving this account to much privileges?
I have a tar file but when I try to install it is giving error. Here's what I did. Code: tar xjvf live.tar.bz2 cd live ./configure bash: ./configure: No such file or directory I have build-essential installed
I regret the day that I upgraded my Acer 751h from 9.10 to 10.04 as the video has never worked like it should. When I upgrade the GMA 500 driver it always will reboot and goes into a black screen. i do not know how to revert it back so I keep reinstalling the system hoping to get it right. Is there a up to date tutorial on this problem?
I have a pretty fresh install on Ubuntu 10.10 Server, with the LAMP bundle installed. Anyway, I just restarted the computer after changing the /etc/network/interfaces script to connect via dhcp. Now when I boot into the server, there is no command prompt and seems to hang there forever, with one blinking cursor in the top left hand corner of the screen. It will not respond to any input besides ctrl-alt-delete. I was able to press control-alt-delete and the computer automatically restarted itself, but it returns to the same state after each reboot. I booted from the grub menu into recovery mode and made sure the /etc/network/interfaces script was correct, and it is. Also I don't think an error in this file should cause the computer to not boot into the command prompt.
I have a Ubuntu 10.04 desktop VM that is running torrent software, and it is saving the files to a samba share (which is actually the host it is running on). I have also tested from another Ubuntu box on the network and it experiences the same problem.
The problem I am having is that any torrent client on a Ubuntu machine or VM can't save to the samba share, but a WinXP torrent client can download the same torrent and save to the share with no problem.
I created a public share, and the problem seems to be that I cannot edit files after I create them. It seems that samba is ignoring the create mask and creating files as rw-r--r-- instead of rw-rw-rw-
I even tried adding the "unix extensions = yes" option and that didn't seem to work either.
Code: [global] # map any unknown username to nobody so login succeeds, don't forget to run: # smbpasswd -an nobody # so that it will work!
I have a folder where all of my movies are placed. Each movie lies in its own folder. I want to write a script which renames all the movie files and gives them the name of the folder they are in.For example I want this file:/home/tryfon/movies/Black Irish [2007]/black.irish.dvdrip.avi to be renamed to /home/tryfon/movies/Black Irish [2007]/Black Irish [2007].aviOne issue is that the video files are of several file types (mostly avi, divx and mkv).Another issue is that some movies consist of two parts, so if a second avi file is found I would like the two (or more) files to be named like: "Black Irish [2007] CD1" and "Black Irish [2007] CD2", or if this is not possible at least notify me of the folders that contain more than one video fil
Im tryin to give permission to modify the grub.cfg by the following command chmod 755 /boot/grub/grub.cfg but unfortunately i get the following error.chmod: changing permissions of `/boot/grub/grub.cfg': Operation not permittedHow do you fix this? am i executing the wrong command? I just want to be able to modify the text Windows Vista (boot loader) to Windows Vista in the grub.cfg file.
1. Using XP Pro SP3 (32-bit) 2. Laptop = Sony VAIO VGN-FZ140E 3. Recently purchased a TP-Link Router (TL-WR740N) which claims to give 150 Mbps speed
When connected, my Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN shows a speed of only 65 Mbps . A friend came over with his laptop (having Windows 7) and was able to get 150 Mbps speed. I even compared and the same web sites were opening with considerable difference on our laptops. Do I need to upgrade the driver?
I have a document, saved in MS Word, which comes to a total of 688 pages (A4). The same document opened in OOO writer 3.2 in Windows shows the same number of pages but when I open it in OOO writer 3.2 on xubuntu it gives me 793 pages. I checked all the page size settings I could find in OOO and everything is set to A4 as far as I can see.
ConkyForecast is giving me the way wrong temperature (conky says it is 129 but weather.com says it is 54) it also added an A symbol before the degree symbol.
