Oct 12, 2010I have some important cgi files run on top of Apache inside cgi-bin directory.My requirement is to once user try to access the cgi file authenticate using Active Directory username/password. If user enter the correct domain credentials only user aloow access to the page in any time user trying to access otherwise not. I configured this using htaccess and htpasswd.But in this case I need to manually configure username/password for htpasswd file. Instead of this I want to authenticate with the Active Directory.

Aug 8, 2009So, let's say there was a website www.qwerty.com, which is completely appropriate if not necessary except for the asdfg subfolder (www.qwerty.com/asdfg), which contains,say, pornographic material I want blocked. Is there any way to block "asdfg" without blocking the entire domain (www.qwerty.com)? I already tried editing my hosts file, but apparently that only works for whole domains.Also, while we're at it, can the hosts file be used to actually block IP addresses, or just domain names (so if I wanted qwerty.com with IP of 128.127.126.125 to be completely blocked, but know my family or employees are little smarter than that, I could add the line "0.0.0.0 128.127.126.125" to prevent all access to that website)?

General :: Client Unable To Listen To NIS Domain Server
Apr 15, 2010Client unable to listen to NIS domain server.I have configured an NIS server, which is working fine.I then configured an NIS client to share some like passwd, shadow, etc.By default the client was trying to communicate to the NIS server using the broadcast method..However if I restart the client computer, it fails to communicate or Listen to the domain server. Once I login to the pc, I then check the /etc/yp.conf file and it switched back to the broadcast method.Is there any way that I can make this entry: domain naman.com server station51.naman.com permanent so that even after the reboot it should communicate using the client-server connection rather than the broadcast connection.

May 27, 2010I'm having here at home one quite addicted Farmville & similar game player which I would like to somewhat control in at least late night/early morning hours, Was browsing a while around for a program which could be used as a webpage blocker for several hours (predefined time), but all I came up was either scripts which I don't understand (I myself can be counted as a newbie in Linux stuff) and don't want to risk blindly or just user account time manager (timekpr).
I found a great solution in my case for MacOS users called SelfControl, but as you can guess ... there's no Linux native client for that. So, my question is - is there any easy and understandable way to block specific webpages for a predefined time period (let's say, every morning from 03:00CET - 08:00CET)?

Feb 21, 2010I use the DynDNS service to keep track of my home server IP. The problem here is that when I try to access my web server via my domain name, the connection is refused. If I first obtain the ip adress (via nslookup), I can get access. I checked the reverse dns lookup and the results dont match. Perhaps this can be a problem browsing. Does the browser or the OS perform the rdns check? Is there a way to whitelist some specific domain in order to skip that check, so I dont have to find out the IP address every time i want to access my home server.

Ubuntu Servers :: Samba PDC - XP Client Can't Join Domain?
Mar 31, 2011I am practising setting up a small network using UBUNTU as a PDC through SAMBA to service xp clients.
I have sucessfully setup DNS on the Ubuntu server using Bind9 and can nslookup from both the client and the server by FQDN and can also ping ipaddress.
I have setup a basic smb.conf file however when I try to add the xp client to the domain I get an error message saying a domain controller for the domain could not be contacted.
I have disabled the firewalls on both the server and the xp client and still get the same error message when trying to join the domain. I've checked my network settings on the client, its set to use a static IP address and the DNS server and WINS server are set as my Ubuntu Samba PDC address.
I haven't been able to see anything odd in the smb.conf file that might cause this issue. I can connect directly to the shares using the samba network account that I created by going to start run and typing in the unc path.
Not sure what the cause of this issue is, I thought it might be a DNS issue on the client. One odd thing I noticed is that when I do nslookup using just the server name and not the FQDN i get a message in dos saying that the default server cannot be found but says that the server name for the [ipadress] cannot be found. It does list the correct ip.
I'm not sure what is causing the problem of stopping my xp client from joining the Ubuntu Samba PDC. I'm using UBUNTU server 10.04.

Jun 4, 2011I want to host 5 websites on my new virtual server so I have created 2 nameservers that point to my virtual server's IP addresses as a glue record. What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? If I do? Which particular records should I change? I'm running a Unix virtual server with a Plesk control panel.
