Ubuntu :: Force Thunderbird To Ask Me For My Gmail Password At Startup?

Oct 19, 2010

I just downloaded Thunderbird 3.1.4 and I think I found a security hole.

Whenever I open Thunderbird, it does not ask me to authenticate my account (not asking for a password)

Is this a bug/security hole or something?

How can I force Thunderbird to ask me for my gmail password at startup?
Oh!!! and where can I report this security hole?

General :: Download Sent Messages Out Of Gmail Into Thunderbird?

Jan 25, 2010

Any way to get my sent messages out of gmail into my thunderbird. Right now it's getting my incoming messages perfectly using POP but I'm not syncing to my sent messages which is an issue because I have a lot of important stuff in my sent mail inside of gmail. Before I had it all in thunderbird (don't remember how) but I decided to try thunderbird 3 (couldn't keep it because calendar kept screwing up) so I downgraded and now I can't get those messages to show up again. I checked gmail and those sent messages are still there.

Ubuntu :: Force Different Screen Resolution At Startup?

May 11, 2011

I recently started using Ubuntu 11.04. Everything works fine with my monitor directly connected to the computer. I get a default screen resoluton of 1680 x 1050, which is just fine.

However, when I connect the screen through a video splitter to be able to use a beamer, the screen resolution defaults to 1024x768. Moreover, Ubuntu then detects an unknown monitor and I cannot select a higher resolution.

I searched for modifications of xrandr en xorg.conf but I have to admit I don't understand what I've read. So my question remains: how can I force Ubuntu 11.04 to start with a screen resololution of 1680 x 1050 (without first connecting monitor only, that is).

I hereby add some information I retrieved with the screen connected without the splitter, so you can see what hardware is involved.

Code:
dirk@LaboFysica:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 8192 x 8192
VGA1 connected 1680x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 474mm x 296mm
1680x1050 60.0*+
1280x1024 75.0 60.0

[Code].....

Ubuntu :: Retrieving Gmail Password From Evolution?

Sep 2, 2010

I have several Gmail accounts. On one of my Ubuntu-running computers (Hardy) Evolution remembers the passwords. Which is a good thing, as I can't remember one of the passwords.

When I'm out and about with my netbook, I like to check my email. But I don't use Evolution on the netbook; I access the Gmail accounts via the web. And because I can't remember the password for one account, I can't check it.

Obviously, on my Hardy desktop, Evolution/Ubuntu remembers the password - so it must be stored on the computer, right? How do I get Ubuntu to tell me the password?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Force Monitor Resolution At Startup?

May 4, 2011

I started using Ubuntu 11.04 today.
Everything works fine with my monitor directly connected to the computer. I get a default screen resoluton of 1600 x 1280, which is just fine.

However, when I connect the screen through a video splitter to be able to use a beamer, the screen resolution defaults to 1024x768. Moreover, Ubuntu then detects an unknown monitor.

I recall that I have solved this problem before with an older version of Ubuntu.
Now it seems that there is no xorg.conf anymore so I don't know what to do.

How can I force Ubuntu 11.04 to start with a screen resololution of 1600 x 1280.

Ubuntu :: Force A Startup Application To Open In A Minimized State?

Jan 30, 2011

In my case I have TeamViewer 6 (remote desktop application) opening as one of my Startup applications. I only really need it to run in the background, so I don't need it in my face after logging in.

What I'm looking for is a command line option for opening an application in a minimized state. Is this possible? Or should I start looking into a script to find the window and minimize it?

Fedora Security :: KWallet Not Storing Gmail's Password?

Aug 26, 2011

This used to work in Fedora < 15. Whenever I want to send an e-mail using Gmail's SMTP server for the first time in a given session, the KWallet system asks if I would not rather migrate the password and store it encrypted inside a wallet. Every time I concur and every time an error message pops-up, as soon as I try and send another e-mail. The attached snapshot shows the error message I get. It doesn't matter how many times I select "Store Password". Every time the ordeal is the same. Up to Fedora 14 this method worked all right, but now it fails.

Software :: Chrony Configuration - Client Only Force Update At Startup?

Mar 2, 2011

I am trying out chrony as a replacement for openntpd as there is no longer an openntpd package in Debian Squeeze. Two questions:

1. Is there a necessity or equivalent to openntpd's "-s" option, where it forces the system's clock to the network time on daemon startup, regardless on how great the clock is off?

2. How do you configure as a client only, not as an ntp server at all? By default, it listens on UDP 123 and 323 (both ipv4 and ipv6) and definitely acts as a network time server (I can query remotely). I do not see anything obvious in the docs. Openntpd by default ran as a client daemon only.

Security :: Force Password To 15 Characters On A Selected Accounts?

Apr 5, 2010

I would like to restrict a few selected accounts to minimum of 15 characters passwords. Other accounts, however, should still be able to login with 8 character passwords. This is in RHEL 5. Does anyone know how to go about it? I have checked PAM documentation and pam_cracklib.so has an option minlen. As per its documentation, minlen can force users to use 15 characters, but it forces every account on the system. I might be wrong too.

However, when checking email now get reply from server that password is invalid. Checked all account settings within T-Bird but cannot locate password setttings for this server/account. Appears to use something called STARTTLS. How to access this store of passwords?

It seems to install fine, but when setting up the account it says that my username/password is not recognized. Ubuntu :: Use Any Browser And Go To Gmail - Can't Get Gmail To Load

Jul 27, 2010

use any browser and go to gmail. i can't get gmail to load. if i browse on videos, links to videos don't work. they appear to be taking a long time to buffer, then a message appears saying to try again. sometimes, links on google search pages are all dead. yahoo mail loads as far as logging me in, then i get a page with all dead links.

i'm using a laptop at several locations that have free public wifi. at some places, everything works perfectly normally. at other places, google and yahoo are almost useless. the "bad" places work just fine under ms windows.

so i figure it's a networking/handshaking issue, but that's all i can figure. i need help to troubleshoot it further. if it's happening to me, it has to be happening to other people, and i consider it a major hassle.

When this script runs during startup, scp does not ask for a password and so it fails to authenticate. If I use read or mount a LUKS volume at startup the system waits for input like it should. Only scp fails to wait for input.Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to stop it? Switching to key-based authentication is not an option.

Ubuntu :: Prompted For Username And Password At Startup?

not for the typical username and password that I use to log into my computer. It's actually prompting me, upon startup/reboot to have me insert my name and password, in what appears to be the command prompt. I am still a noob with Ubuntu and Linux in general, so I have no idea what I did to make this happen. It's not terrible and zomg if it doesn't get fixed I'll die, but it is slightly inconvenient to have to "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" every time I reboot my computer. Anyone know what I have to do to fix this?I would also like to apologize if this has been covered in another topic, but I could not find anything
