Ubuntu :: Firefox Always Starts On A System Reboot?
May 11, 2010How can I stop Firefox from always loading when I restart my computer?
View 2 RepliesHow can I stop Firefox from always loading when I restart my computer?
View 2 RepliesI've been pulling my hair out on this one. I haven't had to reboot my server in many many moons, but when I did recently, everything fired back up just fine... except httpd! The strange thing is that if I log in after reboot and simply type:
Code:
service httpd start
It starts up just fine!
[code]....
Basically, I installed Debian Lenny creating two RAID 1 devices on two 1 TB disks during installation. /dev/md0 for swap and /dev/md1 for "/"
I did not pay much attention, but it seemed to work fine at start - both raid devices were up early during boot, I think. After that I upgraded the system into testing which involved at least upgrading GRUB to 1.97 and compiling & installing a new 2.6.34 kernel ( udev refused to upgrade with old kernel ) Last part was a bit messy, but in the end I have it working.
Let me describe my HDDs setup: when I do "sudo fdisk -l" it gives me sda1,sda2 raid partitions on sda, sdb1,sdb2 raid partitions on sdb which are my two 1 TB drives and sdc1, sdc2, sdc5 for my 3rd 160GB drive I actually boot from ( I mean GRUB is installed there, and its chosen as boot device in BIOS ). The problem is that raid starts degraded every time ( starts with 1 out of 2 devices ). When doing " cat /proc/mdstat " I get "U_" statuses and 2nd devices is "removed" on both md devices.
I can successfully run partx -a sdb, which gives me sdb1 and sdb2 and then I readd those to raid devices using " sudo mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sda1 ". After I read devices it syncs the disks and after about 3 hours I see fine status in mdstat. However when I reboot, it again starts with degraded array. I get a feeling that after I read the disk and sync array I need to update some configuration somewhere, I tried to " sudo mdadm --examine --scan " but its output is no different from my current /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf even after I readd the disks and sync.
Why Firefox starts up when I log into Ubuntu 9.10...Wasn't doing it before...?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen Firefox starts, it loads the home page (Google), but then it greys out and ceases operating - even the 'Well , this is embarrassing' page when it restarts after a forced close greys out. I've used Synaptic to re-install Firefox, but it makes no difference. At the moment I can't use Firefox as my main browser (which has all my mostrecentbookmarks/passwords etc in it), I'm using Google Chrome to post this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't know if it's a bug or a "feature", but every time I start Firefox in Unity it opens in maximized mode. As for many people this is what they like it may be convenient for them, but for the more drag & drop people like me that like to have several open windows on one screen it is rather annoying. It means I must normalize the window every time I start the browser. Is there a way to stop this behavior?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust over the past few days Firefox 3.5.8 now starts as soon as the desktop has loaded - it's not set to do this in 'Startup Applications' - how do I stop it starting on boot? Also, over the same period, if I click a javascript link, nothing happens, it no longer opens the relevant page or image; so I click it again and still nothing, however several minutes later the page/image may open, but not always. Also if I close Firefox, then later click a link in an email it no longer opens Firefox - I then have to go into 'System Monitor > Processes', find and then 'end process' for Firefox (cause it's sleeping) before I can actually start it.I've gone in Synaptic and 'reinstalled' Firefox, but it made no difference. I cleared the cache and all cookies as well - could something have got into Firefox, and if so how can I fix it ?
I'm using karmic 9.10 32 bit with kernel 2.6.31-20-generic-pae update - it appears it's a javascript problem within Firefox as I can no longer open the popup window for online banking from my banks webpage link - I can do this in other browsers such as Epiphany, Google Chrome and Opera, but not in Firefox
I don`t know how did that happen but now after reboot my firefox starts with pocker and porno web-pages. I don`t play pocker, never did. Yes, a couple of times I did watch... But I didn`t install or change anything (extentions or add-ons) in firefox. I acrually didn`t change anything in system and now firefox starts up with those adverts. In settings of firefox I have "show last opened pages". Of course I didn`t close ever my firefox with a couple of adverts. And it does only after reboot. So, if I close it now and open again it will show the last pages. But after reboot ... Well, if I saw something like that in windows I`d think that there is a virus or something else like adverts-virus but I`m in kubuntu. Kubuntu 10.04.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't have any connection issues, but Firefox always starts in offline mode. I can uncheck it and everything works fine. If I close and reopen it Firefox switches back to offline mode.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFinally solved a problem of wireless not working on my laptop. Now I have a problem where Firefox (3.6.4) starts up in off-line mode on each instance. I have to go to files menu and uncheck the work offline button before trying to go to any site. When I close firefox and later open it again, the work offline button is still checked.
Why is the unchecking of work offline saved between instances? Other settings and preferences are saved correctly. I don't have this problem in openSUSE 11.2 & 11.3 (same version of FF).

View 2 Replies View Relatedtrying to get Firefox working properly. I have the tarball installed from Firefoxs site and am using Fedora 12 with KDE as the desktop environment. The problem is if I start Firefox normally, say, by just clicking on the firefox script, then the graphics will be rather crude; but when Firefox starts as soon as I log in (because Ive configured it to auto-start) then the graphics will be nice and smooth. Im having a hard time trying to find answers for this because Im not exactly sure whats happening? I think when it auto-starts as I log in, itll use... well, this is the bit I havent got a clue how to explain? Id guess one time it uses QT, and the other time itll use GTK.
I dont know why its doing this, and when its started normally and I go to shutdown most of the time itll come up with a crash report. There isnt any difference in the way Firefox is being opened, the auto-start calls upon the same script that my shortcut uses, which is the same as clicking on the firefox script in the firefox folder. I have a few images attached to elucidate the problem. I understand I may not have made myself very clear, but Im having a great deal of trouble understanding what precisely is going on.
Firefox can seem a bit glitchy when the crude graphics are in use. Like the mouse-overs which leave traces of the box behind when you move the mouse away. So Im having to logout then back in if Ive happened to close Firefox and want to reopen it...
Ive looked around and can't seem to find an answer to this. If I use any of my places menus, home, downloads etc, M-Player starts, not Firefox and uploads all the files to a playlist
View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated Fedora 9 yesterday. I rebooted earlier and now the desktop starts for a very short time then disappears followed by a window opening and closing for a few goes. After this nothing! YUM does not work, neither does Firefox! A bug report informed me there was a Python problem but I can find no reference to this anywhere.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Vista in a primary partition & Fedora 14 in a logical partition.
Recently, I increased the size of the extended partition and created another logical partition inside it. I formatted the new logical partition from Vista.
After reboot, instead of the list of operating systems, I started getting "grub>"
I searched on the internet and modified entries in /boot/grub/grub.conf, from (hd0,4).. to (hd0,5)..
I still get the grub prompt, but if I enter " configfile (hd0,5)/boot/grub/menu.lst " it shows the os list & I can use Fedora.
How can I configure the system so that it shows the list of os instead of "grub>" ?
I downloaded a linux kernel from linux.org to check what is the kernel is about, i clicked on make_file or make sth .. and in the same session i downloaded a program called login window.
Now the problem is that the system boots ok, it gives me a msg saying that system is running in low graphics mode, when i press ok i get a few options like troubleshootin or restart x or use back up configuration .. and nothing works .. when i press start normally it never stops loading .. i can see the terminal when clicking ctrl + alt + f1,f2 ... but when i press ctrl + alt + f7 or return back to the desktop ubuntu is still loading .. it never stops loading.
And after using ubuntu for a while i really hate windows 7 .. i have it on the system, so is there a way to fix this problem?
dear, in centos / fedora, I can config to start a permanent vnc session by setting the /etc/sysconfig/vncserver file when the system starts. Is there any similar configuration in opensuse which give me a permanent session?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem in Ubuntu 9.10 recently where starting about 2 minutes after startup my computer slows down and becomes unresponsive. I believe the problem is associated with a high IOWait because I have the system monitor applet on my Gnome Panel and it displays 100% IOWait every time my system starts to slow down. I have tried booting into other kernel version and the problem persists. I don't really know what IOWait is or how to diagnose this problem further. I've looked around online and it seems like you have to find a specific process that is causing the IOWait, but I don't understand how to go about doing that.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a computer i'm trying to VNC to.
The problem is that when the computer starts up/reboots it doesn't "Unlock the system keyring"(I think that's what it said).
When I try and attempt to connect to the computer it asks for the VNC password(as per normal) but fails to connect after that.
The reason is that the Ubuntu computer prompts for the user's password to unlock the system(locally).
What I want is to be able to turn on the computer without having to worry about entering the password. I've had it running fine on 8.04 yet the newer version seems to be annoying :s
The system is set to automatically login on startup too.
I've tried this: "delete the keyring folder under /home/XXXX/.gnome2" then setup remote desktop again. But that hasn't worked either. I still have to enter the password to a keyring
When my system starts, the bluetooth monolithic applet is alwaysstarted. I'm not using any bluetooth devices, so there's no need to runit but I can't find where to stop it from loading.I ran chkconfig andit's not there.[URL]

On F10 it followed the mouse pointer's location and show up on the correct monitor
When maximized at close, it is always displayed on the left monitor. When not maximized at close it will open on the monitor where the mouse pointer is located.
About minimize/maximize Firefoxe before closing and it seems to work in some case, but not for me.
I will open firefox then scroll to file-quit firefox, firefox closes fine but when i want to open firefox again it wont, i have to restrate opensuse 11.4 linux 2.6.37.6-0.7 kde 4.6.0.0.
