Aug 28, 2011
I will open firefox then scroll to file-quit firefox, firefox closes fine but when i want to open firefox again it wont, i have to restrate opensuse 11.4 linux 2.6.37.6-0.7 kde 4.6.0.0.
Im having an issue after I install likewise-open it works fine until i restart the machine the lsassd service won't start for any reason and it's status is dead. Any one run into this issue before?
Every time I reboot my computer the system time always comes up exactly 10 hours behind where it should be. So if I reboot it at 16:00 it comes up as 06:00.
This has only been happening since I got back from a trip to Australia, where I naturally changed the computer's timezone to match the local one. I'm now back in Central European Time which is 10 hours behind Australia's. This is on opensuse 11.3.
I've used the YAST date and time tool to set the timezone correctly, and /etc/localtime is set correctly:

I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 3 months ago on my laptop. I'm running with the Gnome Desktop. I live in Chicago and am currently in London. When I set the timezone to Europe/UK the date/time are correct UNTIL I reboot the laptop. After reboot if I type in the 'date' command it shows the time at 6+ hours from London time. When I check the hardware clock 'hwclock' it displays the correct London time. I check the time setup with yast and it shows the correct Timezone but again shows the 6+ hours difference. I change the time in yast and and my applications ( e-mail) display the correct local time again... UNTIL I reboot and then I'm right back where I started - wrong local time ! I suppose I could write a little startup script to do a 'hwclock --hctosys' but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone out there had any ideas..BTW - I hate to say this but on the same laptop running XP I don't have this problem AND I didn't see this problem in OpenSuse 10.3 or 11.1
I recently installed open SUSE 11.3 on my computer which I built myself and the problem I have is after rebooting the computer, I get a black screen. It will not boot the operating system. Here is my component specification:
Video Card: BFG GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express Motherboard: DFI LP DK 790FX-M2RS AM2+/AM2 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz Memory: CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (4 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) HD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
Another question is, where can I purchase SUSE 11.3 and if I do purchase, will I get help on the phone installing it ? Pleas keep in mind that I have little experience with SUSE Linux.
i have compiled/installed Apache from source code ...however i dont now how to start it at system start up as a daemon to run at level 3the server is usually started by the apachectl scriptwhich understand start stop restarti don't want to use suse distribution of Apachecan i just copy apachectl to /etc/init.d and make a link to it at /etc/init.d/rc3.d
When a notification comes in on KDE, if I am scrolling a window in FF at the same time, the FF page goes smeared and unusable, and stays that way. Is this a known bug or something I can tweak? I will post a screen soon... (I have to wait for a notification!)
Firefox crashes each time I launch it under KDE. It does not crash under IceWM. Upstream Firefox binary does not crash, neither b13 nor RC1. GTK-QT Theme Engine is reported missing by GTK settings.

I set up opensuse 11.4. I updated nvidia 6600 drivers from vendor. Everything is good until automatic kernel update. When I start the system, opensuse is not open with this lines.
/etc/rc.status: line 1: /bin/ash : no such file or directory bash: ./etc/sysconfig/chron : cannot execute binary file X_MOUSE_CURSOR : Undefined variable
Trying to install on a: Dell Precision T3500 OpenSuse 11.3 keeps showing the following message:
"Make sure CD number 1 is in your drive"
I ordered the DVD from the OpenSuse site, so they ARE NOT burned copies. I also tried burning images, the same problem happens. No matter what I do, it does not go beyond this message.
After upgrade opensuse from 11.2 to 11.3 a cannot use firefox. I start firefox form shell and nothing. When I use strace then firefox stop on "waitpid(-1, ". Firefox work well only when i login as a root. I removed java sun plugin and started firefox in save-mode and check to disable all extensions etc and nothing to do.
When I search addons with firefox, it takes 4 mins to connect to server, and after approving to ad it, it again takes that much time to connect to download. While downloading it's ok, but connecting to server takes time. This is for all addons. Is there any body having same issue?

After upgrading my TB to 5.0 it does not open links in Firefox anymore. I have check all my settings and they seem to be fine. Firefox is default browser, clicking a link should open a new tab in Firefox but id does not work. What happens is that when I click a link it starts/opens Firefox but with empty address bar. I need to manually copy link location and paste it manually in Firefox.
I am trying to open some wmv files through firefox (opening in my gmail). When trying to open, the only selection I have is Banshee. When I download onto desktop, I can open it using mplayer.
I am a opensuse 11.3 user with firefox 3.6.8.I use 32 bit version and having trouble with one of my banks applet when launched from the firefox , it shows up as 'start:applet not initiazed' and then just hangs there.I have tried a lot googling and looking around in opensuse forums, but could not get my browser working. If I use How do I test whether Java is working on my computer? , it shows the java version is working. I have tried removing icedtea , but did not help.I have also found , when I install opensuse 11.3 , this applet seemed to have worked fine. BUt, after all the online updates system did , it just stopped working with this applet not iniatilized message.
I am using: Firefox 3.6.14 from buildservice. 3.6.13 from buildservice did work flawlessly. System 11.1 KDE3.5 release 21.13.1
Error message when starting from terminal:
Code: user@linux-2c5j:~> firefox
Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.2.14 and 1.9.2.14. What I have tried: deinstallation of mozilla and reinstall. Does not change anything.
The usual way to access to a virtual machine console from a VmWare server 2 is to use Firefox :
- you type the URL of your VmWare server, e.g. : https://myserver:8333 - then you click on the console tab, for the vm you want to access to - the first time, firefox tells you to install a dedicated plug-in - then, when you click on the right panel, a new window appears for the vm console.
But on a fresh installed x64 Suse 11.3, with Firefox 3.6.6, the plug-in does not open the window and you get an error : "Cannot access virtual machine console. The request timed out." There is a workaround that I find much more convenient than to use firefox :
- you need to access to your vmware server installation : /usr/lib/vmware/webAccess/tomcat/apache-tomcat-6.0.16/webapps/ui/plugin - you fetch the vmware-vmrc-linux-x64.xpi file and you copy it somewhere on your Suse PC (e.g. /home/myhome) - you change the extension : mv vmware-vmrc-linux-x64.xpi vmware-vmrc-linux-x64.tar.gz - you unzip it : unzip vmware-vmrc-linux-x64.tar.gz (it will create 2 files and 2 directories : components and plugins) - you will run the VmWare plug-in directly : plugins/vmware-vmrc - for the hostname, you have to enter : myserver:8333 - and it works !

Whenever I want (for example) save a file from the internet with Firefox, I can't because Firefox does not open the "save as" window of Dolphin. Also, when I want to save my bookmarks in Firefox, I can't because Firefox can not open the "save as..." window.
There is no failure message, no crash, just nothing. Like as the request is simply ignored. Any Ideas what might be wrong in my system? The system is OpenSuse 11.3 64 Bit with KDE 4.6 and all current updates.
I just reinstalled my OpenSuse 11.3 with the GNOME desktop. As soon as I was done installing and I was on a fresh desktop, I installed the Yast updates that were available, rebooted, and now I can't login to any of my User accounts. Whenever I try to login, it tells me that it is "Unable to Open Session".o any of you know how I can fix this without having to reinstall all over again
I used init 0 to make server shutdown, and replaced the power cord when I boot the server,it can't enter the GUI then I used init 5 and get the following message
Could not start the X server (your graphical environment)due to some internal error. contact your system administrator or check your syslog to diagnose. In the meantime this display will be disabled. Please restart GDM when the problem is corrected.
I've installed openSUSE 11.1 in my desktop with default firefox as web browser. Whenever surfing graphical sites Its says flash need to be installed and in the Adobe site which package I've to download? (Yat or tar.gz or rpm, etc.. etc..) and how I can install it.
I've just installed a fresh copy of 11.4 and the updates are driving me crazy. My internet connection is up, but the download stops and goes, and when I try using firefox, it takes a minute to even start to load any page. I have the system monitor up and it is telling me that the network is not receiving anything except for these bursts of data aprox. every 30 seconds.
