When Firefox starts, it loads the home page (Google), but then it greys out and ceases operating - even the 'Well , this is embarrassing' page when it restarts after a forced close greys out. I've used Synaptic to re-install Firefox, but it makes no difference.At the moment I can't use Firefox as my main browser (which has all my mostrecentbookmarks/passwords etc in it), I'm using Google Chrome to post this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else having problems with Firefox Ver 3.6.8? Lately for no particular reason it just stops, goes all gray and when I look at the process Firefox-bin is running at 100% or more. Occasionally it only lasts a few seconds but often and can even bring the whole machine down requiring a reset to recover. Sometimes it opens, starts loading Gmail and locks up so it's not a particular site causing the problem. I tried the "report a problem" but it was so frustratingly slow that I gave up. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 kernel 2.6.32-24 GNOME 2.30.2 on a Core2 with 2G RAM.This is only a recent occurrence but it has forced me to use Chrome till I can fix it.

As for many people this is what they like it may be convenient for them, but for the more drag & drop people like me that like to have several open windows on one screen it is rather annoying. It means I must normalize the window every time I start the browser. Is there a way to stop this behavior?

Just over the past few days Firefox 3.5.8 now starts as soon as the desktop has loaded - it's not set to do this in 'Startup Applications' - how do I stop it starting on boot?Also, over the same period, if I click a javascript link, nothing happens, it no longer opens the relevant page or image; so I click it again and still nothing, however several minutes later the page/image may open, but not always.Also if I close Firefox, then later click a link in an email it no longer opens Firefox - I then have to go into 'System Monitor > Processes', find and then 'end process' for Firefox (cause it's sleeping) before I can actually start it.I've gone in Synaptic and 'reinstalled' Firefox, but it made no difference. I cleared the cache and all cookies as well - could something have got into Firefox, and if so how can I fix it ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI don`t know how did that happen but now after reboot my firefox starts with pocker and porno web-pages. I don`t play pocker, never did. Yes, a couple of times I did watch... But I didn`t install or change anything (extentions or add-ons) in firefox. I acrually didn`t change anything in system and now firefox starts up with those adverts. In settings of firefox I have "show last opened pages". Of course I didn`t close ever my firefox with a couple of adverts. And it does only after reboot. So, if I close it now and open again it will show the last pages. But after reboot ... Well, if I saw something like that in windows I`d think that there is a virus or something else like adverts-virus but I`m in kubuntu. Kubuntu 10.04.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFinally solved a problem of wireless not working on my laptop. Now I have a problem where Firefox (3.6.4) starts up in off-line mode on each instance. I have to go to files menu and uncheck the work offline button before trying to go to any site. When I close firefox and later open it again, the work offline button is still checked.
Why is the unchecking of work offline saved between instances? Other settings and preferences are saved correctly. I don't have this problem in openSUSE 11.2 & 11.3 (same version of FF).

View 2 Replies View Relatedtrying to get Firefox working properly. I have the tarball installed from Firefox�s site and am using Fedora 12 with KDE as the desktop environment. The problem is if I start Firefox normally, say, by just clicking on the firefox script, then the graphics will be rather crude; but when Firefox starts as soon as I log in (because I�ve configured it to auto-start) then the graphics will be nice and smooth. I�m having a hard time trying to find answers for this because I�m not exactly sure what�s happening? I think when it auto-starts as I log in, it�ll use... well, this is the bit I haven�t got a clue how to explain? I�d guess one time it uses QT, and the other time it�ll use GTK.
I don�t know why it�s doing this, and when it�s started normally and I go to shutdown most of the time it�ll come up with a crash report. There isn�t any difference in the way Firefox is being opened, the auto-start calls upon the same script that my shortcut uses, which is the same as clicking on the firefox script in the firefox folder. I have a few images attached to elucidate the problem. I understand I may not have made myself very clear, but I�m having a great deal of trouble understanding what precisely is going on.
Firefox can seem a bit glitchy when the crude graphics are in use. Like the mouse-overs which leave traces of the box behind when you move the mouse away. So I�m having to logout then back in if I�ve happened to close Firefox and want to reopen it...
Ive looked around and can't seem to find an answer to this. If I use any of my places menus, home, downloads etc, M-Player starts, not Firefox and uploads all the files to a playlist

After this nothing! YUM does not work, neither does Firefox! A bug report informed me there was a Python problem but I can find no reference to this anywhere.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgrade to F14 from F10 on a dual montor setup. Firefox behaives differently on F14 than on F10.
On F10 it followed the mouse pointer's location and show up on the correct monitor
When maximized at close, it is always displayed on the left monitor. When not maximized at close it will open on the monitor where the mouse pointer is located.
About minimize/maximize Firefoxe before closing and it seems to work in some case, but not for me.
Sometime after I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 I've been having trouble with my wireless network connection.It will usually log on to the network, then disconnect a shortly after. Then try to connect again, usually successfully, then it cuts off again. Then connects again, then disconnects. FWIW, ubuntu 9.10 works on a different machine pretty consistently, so I don't think its a problem with the router.

Googling this problem seems to indicate that it may be a problem with graphics drivers.I've tried commands such as "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" and "startx" which I found through googling the problem, but neither of these did any good. I also tried reinstalling Ubuntu, but the problem didn't go away.I can still boot into Windows so it's not the end of the world, but I'd like to get Ubuntu working.

A second system W7 AMD quad 4, nvidia Gt, the 4.6 alpha runs perfect with the same live cd. This is bad news, the update, upgrade path of Windows 7 and Apple Mac systems. And now Linux? I have been running thunderbird.2.0.0.24+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 successfully for some time now under Hardy. This morning I tried to run it and I get the "wait" indication but then nothing. I looked in my home folder and the folder .mozilla-thunderbird seems to be liked to .thunderbird, but both are listed in red and black. (Doesn't sound good.) I saw a similar bug for a newer version of thunderbird, but the symptoms in my case seem different.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI love Ubuntu but since upgrading to 10.04 have 2 probs. The first, which I have posted in another thread, is the splash screen. The second is this: with compiz, startup occurs in this order:
1. Gnome do dock and pointer appear on black background with no panels or desktop
2. Some hard drive activity
3. 10 secs no hard drive activity still no desktop
4. Gnome Desktop and panels finally appear with wireless already connected
It seems to me that the Gnome/compiz desktop is loaded only after everything else, including wireless and all services/processes. Compiz works fine, I am not short of ram or resources (2 Gb + Core 2 duo@2.7ghz). My question is then, is there a way to change the order of startup so that the desktop/compiz appears more quickly?
I'm building a HTPC using the minimal ubuntu variant.I've come pretty far, having X11 with Graphic support and Boxee running.The system boots extremely fast (no tweaking everything is default). So fast boxee is up and running before there is networking. The fast boot time is great. But I'd rather have a network connection before boxee is started.I could write a bash script that checks if there is a connection and then launch boxee accordingly.

Only way to stop it is to uninstall audacious. This seems very strange, it started today and I have no idea of why it started. Ubuntu 10.04. Do you need any more information? I am pretty new to the Gnome environment, I have always been running Fluxbox before.
