Ubuntu :: Change The Mounting Point Of A Usb External Drive From '/media/disk' To '/media/Movies'
Jan 16, 2011I was trying to change the mounting point of a usb external drive from '/media/disk' to '/media/Movies'
Here is were the stupid part takes over... I right clicked on the desktop icon for the device and selected Properties. From there I selected the Volume tab and in there I changed the mounting point to '/media/Movies' It accepted it and said the changed would take place when I unmounted it and remounted it. However, when I did this it now says it cannot be mounted as it says mount_point contains invalid characters usually /
Unfortunately, now I cannot get back into the properties to remove my error.

Slackware :: External USB Hard Drive Auto-mounting Error
Nov 29, 2009Just installed Slackware 13 this morning. It's been a long time since I last tried Linux, but Slack works (a lot easier than Slack 8 did back when I last used it!) quite well. I'm using the XFCE desktop and it's smooth as silk except for one odd problem-I cannot get any of my USB drives to mount. I just plugged in my Lexar 4GB USB flash drive and received an error message. Here's from /var/log/messages from when I initally plugged in the drive (I have a 500GB WD MyBook USB external drive that is always plugged in):
Any ideas or suggestions of what to look at? I'm not familiar with HAL in Linux although I've seen plenty of discussion about it and have an idea of what it's supposed to (or break! ).

Mar 17, 2009I'm not sure what when wrong since I have a few DVDs and they all play well in my normal DVD player, I later attempt to mount it in my Ubuntu 8.10 I'm presented with the following message:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
May I know what does this really mean?Is there something in my computer that require a fix?

Mar 31, 2010Accidentally the usb plug on my WD "My Book" got halfway unplugged and I didn't notice it. when I rebooted it, it wouldn't read the drive. I tried using G Parted to repair it but no success, it just runs forever accessing the drive and never finishes. (I left it running an entire weekend and it didn't finish) the drive is formated ext3.
When I try to mount the drive in Ubuntu 9.10 it gives this error message:
Strangely if I boot into Windows and use the ext driver I can access the drive just fine. is this something I can fix? if needed I can use Windows to do any repairs.

Feb 2, 2011I don't know anything about Unbuntu I installed it because I had a virus and I didn't have a copy of windows. I have an extra HD with lots of media on it. At first it seemed to show up but then it disappeared. I did the sudo commands and the disk shows up as sdb. I have no idea what I am doing or what to do and all the guides keep talking about adding partitions and programs I have to dl from the net. This is a stand alone computer with no net connection.

May 28, 2009I am having permissions errors every time I try to mount a windows host. I have a linux server and all the windows computers can see that computer and its files, but we wanted to start backing up the linux machine to one of our other computers. so I tried to mount one of the computers. here is the sequence of events:

I tried all sorts of passwords we use around the office and none of them worked.
I then decided to try mounting one of our other computers. this one looked like it worked fine. no error messages at all. (I left password blank) so I look in my filesystem and the mounted drive is not in the /mnt/Anita-comp file. What gives?

I suspect the disk manager pysdm that i had just installed today and it had crash during the previous session. The /etc/fstab file does not exist anymore and i cant rename the fstab.bak because the disk is read-only even for my root user

Apr 29, 2010I just ugraded from karmic, and it all went without a hitch. Except now when i boot i get... Error while mounting /etc/fstab press s to skip or m for manual recovery.
Pressing s works and i have a working machine, but i would like to fix this. Not tried the manual recovery yet as i have no idea about fstab and don't want to break it.

Ubuntu :: Mounting Error - Throwing Warnings
Jan 15, 2011I had Ubuntu 10.04 installed entirely on my 750 gig SATA drive. Yesterday I backed up my /home and installed a 200 gig drive and reinstalled using the 200 gig drive as / and swap. The 750 gig drive was all /home. Now, whenever I reboot it comes up saying it had serious errors mounting /home and I have to reboot again to get it to boot up. I never had this issue when the 750 gig drive was running the entire show. Has anyone else run into this? S.M.A.R.T. hasn't been throwing any warnings or errors so I am at a loss as to what "serious" errors Ubuntu could be running into.
