After reading some about it, it seems that I could copy and rename any
off tty /etc/init/ttyx.conf (expect tty1 which is special for security mode _and_ normal mode)
But after reboot whit tty12.conf - the screen went wired and a lot of error-messages was all over the screen, so I had to remove it again.
I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
I am trying to install the IDS component barnyard2 on RHEL 5. I am following the snort enterprise insall document by Patrick Harper. For installing barnyard, after the tar command it says to perform a ./configure --enable-mysql The --enable-mysql does not work: configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-mysql --with-mysql does work. Is there a difference? Next, using --with-mysql, I get a failure at the end:
ERROR! Libpcap library/headers (libpcap.a (or .so)/pcap.h) not found, go get it from Open Source and Linux Forums dot tcpdump dot org TCPDUMP/LIBPCAP public repository or use the --with-libpcap-* options, if you have it installed in unusual place. Also check if your libpcap depends on another shared library that may be installed in an unusual place I do a find / -name libpcap* and get:
I've been running 10.04 on a partition of my Dell laptop successfully for weeks. Now, I get the login screen, and when I give my username and password and click "Ok" it logs in, looks like X starts, then immediately goes back to the login screen with the drum sound (is that a bell?). If I type the wrong password, it doesn't log in, so I know it's getting past authentication.
I've tried logging in as one of several users.
I've tried running in recovery mode and running "clean", running "repair packages" (it downloaded and installed a lot of packages), running in safe graphics mode (failsafeX). None of those had any effect.
I've tried looking in /var/adm/messages and looking at X logs that are presented in safe graphics mode. I see tons of stuff, and none of it obviously stands out as an error.
It is likely almost out of disk (maybe 300M left?), but I can't find evidence that that is causing this problem.
I'd like to somehow repair my Ubuntu install without wiping it.
I followed these commands to disable pulseaudio in ubuntu 9.10 and now it seems I've broken gnome-volume-control. How can I go about undoing these changes???
i have already checked system>preferences>screensaver. activate screensaver after 8 min of idle but i just get a black screen?when i click preview it does show the screensaver, but it doesn't show after 8 min idle
I've been trying to enable DVD playback ever since last night now and I've been following the instructions on this page: [URL]. And I've downloaded the xubuntu-restricted extras. But every time I run the command: sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.**** works, but Connecting to packages.medibuntu.org|88.191.82.11|:80 always times out. I'm using xubuntu 9.10.
i have added the hardware sensors monitor to the panel and enabled....but i can only enabled my hardisk temp(i.e. hddtemp)...but there is no option of cpu.....how can i enable my cpu temp??
I bought a new ve server from Media Temple, but can not figure out how to enable/install/whatever FTP access to it? I just want to set it up so I can use transmit on my server. Do I hace to install FTP? What is the best way to do this?
is there any known way to enable any type of 3-d anything on ubuntu? something like 3-d vision from nvidia? i have that for windows, and i know its only compatible with direct x.. but is there any work-around to have something similar for the desktop or the cooliris firefox plugin, or anything at all?
I just upgraded ubuntu, and now I can't find visual effects. For some reason it's gone. So how do I enable compiz? I don't use unity, I use the normal classic gnome.
I am getting an error saying that my virtualbox has no access to my usb's but to enable access I need to add my user to the vboxusers ... how do i do that?
I'm trying to enable my second monitor after upgrading from 10.04 to 11.04. In the process of upgrading, I had to delete my xorg.conf file because it was causing errors and preventing the desktop from displaying.
So I tried using gksu nvidia-settings to enable the second monitor. If I enable it in TwinView, nvidia settings can apply it, it shows up but I can't use it.
If I try to enable it as a separate X-screen (which is what I had in 10.04) nvidia settings is unable to apply the settings, and so I have to save it as an xorg.conf file, which then causes my desktop to no longer display.
how to enable the second monitor any other way. Is there some new settings file I should know about?
Long story short... I have sifted through endless docs.. some that I understood and some that I didn't, I have posted in these forums twice (not one response) and asked my local LUG for ideas and I got nothing.
I have an audio mixer that I am desperate to get working with Ubuntu 9.10, and despite working fine with Vista (so I know it's not my hardware or Mic's etc.) I can't achieve this to save my life.
At this point, I would like to just go with what works and stick with Vista, but like a fool it was me who suggested to some long distance collaborators that we all try to use Ubuntu. Now I am the only one not working...
I am frustrated to no end here. But I figure I will ask one more time and pray that someone can help me here.
How can I get Ubuntu to accept my mixer as input for audio recording??
I should also state that I am having no other audio issues that I am aware of, and that the cheap, sounds like crap mic that is built into my monitor DOES work with Ubuntu. I need to change away from this mic as the input source and over to my mixer which is connected to my sound card.
Sorry to repeat myself here but I wish to stress that this configuration of mics into mixer into computer is something I have been doing for years on the mac and with windows so I know the problem here lies with Ubuntu. And like I say, I am dual booting now on an HP desktop with Vista and I have success with Vista.
I just installed ubuntu 9.10 32-bit on my parents computer. My dad was having this weird problem where it would only randomly allow him to log in every few tries. Let's say every 1 out of 12 tries.
I believe I have figured what is keeping him from logging in. Only on his user is there an issue with logging in. Only on his desktop have I turned the screen resolution down. From 1152 to 1024.
The usual sequence goes like this - - I choose his user - I enter his correct password - It appears to be logging in, half the log in sound happens and the splash screen runs for 6 or so seconds - The splash screen flickers between a 1152 and 1024 resolution - Reverts back to the log in screen, his desktop is never visible.
any ideas on how to fix this? The computer in question is a Compaq Presario circa 2000-2001 if that makes any difference. I have not looked into the video card make yet
I found out from here that it is not enable URL...I ran the command mount | grep "shm" and got.none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid, nodev)So how do I enable it?It is need for my ATI graphic card.
New user, just installed last evening. Ran fine, then did update. rebooted computer, see logo, but login screen is dark black rectangle, can see anything.
Trying to power down computer yields message that gdm-simple-greeter.desktop is not responding.
Tried do CTRL-ALT F2 (found in forum) and issue commands sudo /etc/init.d/dgm stop dpkg-reconfigure gdm - but get error message "/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure must be run as root"
So, I can run command line, but no gdm. Any ideas? And I am a neophite with Linux.
I'm just want to know how i could enable FTP for PHP on a ubuntu system... I found a few links but they mostly say that when you install it you have to run
Code: ./configure --enable-ftp
How can i enable it if PHP was installed when we set up the server the 1st time?

I installed Lucid (clean) after being v. satisfied w. Karmic.
Lucid has presented problem after problem, including the most irritating one thus far: I can't boot (system disk error) unless I put the Live CD in (the Karmic version, yet) and select "boot from first disk". Once that is done the boot proceeds normally.
Is there anyway out of this? I have installed and reinstalled w/ the same problem. Should I reinstall from the Net and not the Live CD?
