i have already checked system>preferences>screensaver. activate screensaver after 8 min of idle but i just get a black screen?when i click preview it does show the screensaver, but it doesn't show after 8 min idle

Even a way to blank the screen would be nice. However, if we were to blank the screen, I need to ensure that it doesn't do a DPMS blanking, since we use calibrated monitors here, and turning them off sucks.
Alright guys. I need to find a way to enable a black screen screensaver (or turn off the monitor, or something to avoid burn in) while the machine is sitting at the login screen and completely turn off the ability for the computer to sleep. how I can accomplish that?

I'm still fairly new to Gnome and the whole "screensavers as themes" thing is still confusing me.I've found my themesdir and tried to create a .desktop file for it, but obviously I've gotten something wrong as it just doesn't show when I open the screensaver prefs dialog, no error, no message, it's just not there.
Installing the xscreensaver packages added the extra screensavers I was missing, and I'm a pixelcity away from perfection..Of course the perfect solution would be if someone ported the screensaver natively to linux, which shouldn't be too hard as the source is open, it already runs on openGL and tries to confine most windows stuff to a single file. But I don't know C++ or 3D code or win/linux internals so I wouldn't know where to start..
I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04, and I have the following problem.My computer is set up to start the screensaver and lock the screen after 5 minutes of inactivity and to use a blank screen after 15. Whenever I come back after some moments of inactivity and move the mouse, the screensaver doesn't go away. Instead of having a box whereinput a password, I'm left with a still image of one frame of the screensaver. I can still input the password and press enter to unlock the screen, but it is a bit annoying nevertheless. Moreover this does not happen if the screen is blank: in that case I see the expected box.

Now, the problem is that when I lock my computer(I have to do this because I have brothers and stuff always trying to sneak on), it freezes after a while. I found the f-spot-screensaver executable in usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/f-spot-screensaver, and the executable works just fine under KDE when run from the command line. I also found a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/screensavers/f-spot-screensaver.desktop.
I also installed xscreensavers, and they all seem to work just fine, but I can't figure out how to make the f-spot version show up in control panel.
I really liked the Karmic fireworks screensaver, which appears MIA in Lucid. Does anyone know how I could acquire and install this feature?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI wanted to get a screensaver as my background so I installed xscreensaver didn't work out to the way I wanted to so I removed it apt-get remove xscreensaver then it asked for some other packages to be removed so I did apt-get autoremove xscreensaver was still there working instead of gnome-screensaver so I did a command search to find folders of xscreensaver and remove them whereis xscreensaver and it did remove them, but gnome-screensaver still doesn't start up.
I've tried this command gnome-Message: screensaver-command --activate but I get this error: Message: Screensaver is not running!
I've tried googling for a way to start gnome-screensaver in terminal but no joy, anyone know how to get this to start.
Just as the title says, the electricsheep screensaver (v2.7) is not working - not on gnome-screensaver at least.When running electricsheep from a terminal it does work, also the exact same version works fine as a screensaver under Lubuntu.I've tried some solutions provided in other threads on this forum, such as installing the PPA version and letting it run overnight, without success.

The Gnome Screensaver preferences window is freezing my desktop. I went into synaptic and tried to remove it (to use xscreensaver instead). But synaptic, in removing gnome-screensaver package, wanted to ADD a bunch of packages, lots of KDE stuff (which I don't want). Is there any way around this? If not, is there a way to reset the gnome-screensaver config file (whatever it is) so that it doesn't freeze on startup? This problem arose after I selected a particular screensaver in the gui window.

I already use my password to log on on and this nre request is becoming a dammed nuisance. Can someone tell me how to stop it from happening. How to turn off screen saver? I did not have this problem with previous releases , not until I upgraded to the latest 2.6.35-28-generic #49-Ubuntu I believe. The latest OS release installs FF 4.0, I had thought that was the problem. I have removed FF 4.0 and installed 3.6.13 instead and still have the same problem.

I created a new one, and since I had the files backed up, I put my series of pictures in.But since then in screen saver mode a tremendous variety of pictures are showing up. Some from web pages I have looked at, some from another folder where I store personal fotos, some from pdf files I have looked at, and some I have no idea where they came from... and of course some from my Pictures folder.
This is not a "serious" problem, but I am left very curious as to what happened, or how to correct the situation.... if there is a correction.
