I've Xubuntu with XFCE 4.6 installed. In the autostart I have these programs by default:

I've already disabled What they do exactly and which of them can be disabled without getting any problems?
I recently made the switch from gnome to kde. After struggling for two straight days I finally have everything the way I want, and I must say that I am quite pleased with Kde. The one thing I want to do now is get my computer to start up without running printer applets and bluetooth and all that other stuff I don't need. I have had little luck finding any info on this one.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed KDE for very limited uses. However, everytime I start up, it brings me to the KDE login screen. I want to revert it back to console login. How do I go about doing that? And if possible, prevent future GUI packages from autostarting. so this seemed to work:
Code: sudo mv -f /etc/init/kdm.conf /etc/init/kdm.conf-disabled That basically renames it so it doesn't start. And if you do need to use the GUI, just run startx
How can you disable GNOME autostart in lucid, so it can be started only when i need it?

Would anyone possibly know what the default autostart settings are for kubuntu? Like, if you haven't changed much in your autostart, could you open that up real quick and take a screenshot and post it?. I was trying to remove one of the things I had in autostart but my laptops touchpad got stuck and held down the "remove" and removed 3 of the default applications.

For instance Wireshark; I'll never want to run that as a regular user I'll always want to be root. Is there a way to set it up so that when I click it in the menu I'm prompted for my password and it will automatically run as root? (Much like in windows you can right click and check the box that says always run as administrator.)

There's a link in the set-up for FAQs, but when I try to open it I am told "Could not launch the browser: Could not find kfmclient". I checked /etc/alternatives, and the x-www-browser is set to be iceweasel (Debian's firefox), which is what I use. I do not have Konqueror installed. I use Fluxbox, however, I also run some Gnome and KDE programs. I checked if there is a package I may need, but came up empty:

This device uses a Silicon Labs CP2102 device for its USB-serial conversion. Is there anything I can do (up to and including rebuilding the driver with changes) to prevent RTS and DTR from being asserted by default when the device is open()'ed?
Ideally it would still be possible to assert and deassert RTS and DTR but if the only fix is to completely disable them for this device I'm okay with that.
I am using Xubuntu 9.10 on a nettop as a X11 terminal.In order to do that, I created a custom session script that runs some commands instead of starting xfce4-session and the likes from GDM. When I boot this nettop, GDM automatically logs a dummy user in (called "test"), and runs a script that does "xhost +", and opens a small X Terminal to keep the X session alive, while some other computer sets the DISPLAY environment variable to point to <nettop>:0 and runs gnome-session.
My trouble is that after 10 minutes of idle, the screen is blanked(power saving I presume).
I tried to add "xset -dpms" and "setterm -blank 0 -powersave off" to my startup script, in vain. I want my power saving options to be configured on the remote computer, not the nettop. How could I prevent X/GDM/Whoever from blanking the screen ?
i've iregulare situation here i use LXDE and when i use chromium (for ex)and download a jpg file and then open it it starts FIREFOX and then asks me to open it i want chromium (for ex) to open that file type directly with images viewer another example when i installed awn and made some favorite applications shortcut on it when i try to open those shortcuts it opens firefox again and ask me to download or open O_O how can i remove firefox from all this proccess ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have FTPS setup on my ubuntu server 9.10 machine using vsftpd, and I want to disable the default SFTP server in openSSH. I didn't even know it was on until I accidentally connected to it. I tried searching the internet, and it seems that all I should have to do is comment out the line:
Code: Subsystem sftp /usr/lib/openssh/sftp-server restart sshd and it shouldn't work anymore.....except it does. Thinking that /etc/init.d/ssh restart may not have worked, I restarted the machine, but I can still connect over sFTP.
What files or programs have the ability to change your default network scripts and config files? All 3 of these very important files got changed on their own.

I have 2 hard drives, one holds windows (160gb), another has three partitions, 15gb for ubuntu 10.04, 5gb for swap, and the remaining 480gb formatted as ntfs for files..
The 480gb space is drive D:, my files are located there and i point the apps to get their files from drive D:. For example, "My Music" folder is in drive D:, and so I tell SongBird to grab the music files from that directory.
It's not a big problem, but whenever I restart ubuntu, drive D: does not automatically open so SongBird initially cannot locate the files. What I want to happen is that when ubuntu starts, drive D: is already loaded, so that the applications can grab the files they need from that drive automatically without me having to manually open drive D: everytime ubuntu starts.
