I would like to disable the screen locking for hibernation only, in Kubuntu 11.04.I know that there is an option in the KDE Control Center, but I believe that it disables screen locking for both hibernation and sleep.Does anyone know of a way to do this (I'd be perfectly happy with a hacky solution)?Does anyone know what scripts are run when the "sleep" or "hibernate" buttons are pressed?

When Gnome starts, I would like to auto-login a user account, but I and the screensaver to lock at boot. I am using the gnome-screensaver.
I'm having difficulty disabling the screen lock feature when resuming from suspend in Xubuntu 11.04 x64. The screen lock seems to be implemented in xscreensaver, so I disabled the screen saver in the Settings Manager. This did not work. In the 'Power Manager' section of Settings Manager, I unchecked "lock screen when going for suspend/hibernate' and this did not work. I found a possible workaround in a bug report that seems to describe the problem I'm having: [URL] but the solution offered there (install gconf-editor and disable screen lock from there) did not work. The bug report states that the problem was fixed in xfce4-utils 4.4.2-1ubuntu1, but from what I can tell the version of that package in 11.04 is newer than that. The machine has worked great but recently has had problems coming back from hibernation. This is a new problem and did not seem to coincide with an update or new software. When I try to "wake up" my laptop, it shows a bunch of text (I am not that computer-literate, so I don't understand the text) and becomes unresponsive. My wife just moved onto Ubuntu after dumping Vista and she loves it! Only thing is that our 10 month old son adores smashing his hands on the keyboard when attempting to talk to his grandparents over Skype. In Vista, we downloaded a small software that locked the keyboard but not the mouse or screen. This locking could be toggled via a system tray icon.
Is there something similar that is available for Linux, specifically Ubuntu 10.4? If anyone knows of a solution, do let me know.
So I've got this home file server, and I want to display certain stuff using:

a tcpdump of snort logs, scrolling in real time
I want it to display on the screen using a split terminal screen, so all of the information shows on one display, but I do not want it to be vulnerable to a local attacker. Is there any way I can have these things start up at login, but prevent that user from doing anything other than viewing this information?
Is there a config file to toggle whether the screen is locked after hibernation? I looked all over preferences but if it's there, I missed it. In Ubuntu, the screen was always locked after waking up. In Squeeze, it's going directly to desktop. It's not a biggie but you never know when someone might try to access your account so I kind of liked that it would wake up locked. Maybe it's doing that because I'm the only user on the system?

Now the only way I can do this is to check the options "Lock screen when screen saver is active." in the screensaver preference. But this method is annoying since I have to type the password to quit the screensaver. Is there other way to do this? Thanks.
By the way, I use CentOS 5.2 x86_64.

In December I finally filled up my root partition and broke Suse 11.1. I therefore resized my partitions and installed Suse 11.3 on /root. I didn't not touch my /home partition.
I notice that when I leave my machine and come back the screen has locked. I have tried to turn off the screensaver, but it hasn't worked. I have Googled, but unfortunately the screen shots don't look like what I have and the instructions to stop this do not seem to match what I am seeing on the screen.
Is there a way to do this via the command line?

The screen saver options are set to the following: Pictures Folder, Idle after 2 hours, Activate when Idle unchecked.Require password is checked.
These are my settings, but in about 10 minutes of not being touched, each computer goes to a blank screen and I have to use my password to get back to the desktop.I originally installed Ubuntu 8.04.3 on my desktop, and I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on one of my laptop computers. I have sense upgraded the desktop to 9.10 and then to 10.04.I updated the first laptop to 10.04 and freshly installed 10.04 onto another laptop.I am having this same problem on all three computers and had the problem on each computer from the beginning.I ran update manager today about an hour ago and have not tested this problem, but I expect it is still there. I created a document with nothing but the time and left it on the laptop. I will see how long it takes for the screen blanker to activate.I searched the forum and found two unrelated problems, one of which was the opposite, someone who could not get the screen saver to activate.

The function keys don't work before log-in.. Well not for sound at least.. I guess you could say it's a bug.. unless it was intended. The only way to "wake it up", is to use a local keypress (which means I have to hook a keyboard back up to it). I recently upgraded from Lucid to Maverick I can't seem to disable screen lock after resume from suspend. It's a minor annoyance, but still a considerable annoyance to have to enter my password every time the computer wakes up.
I've thusfar
1 - changed screensaver preferences to not lock
2 - set the gnome_keyring_hibernate, gnome_keyring_suspend, hibernate, and suspend, values all to false in gconf-editor
3 - commented out the line LOCK_SCREEN=true in /etc/default/acpi-support
BUT am still being prompted for a password every time the computer wakes up from suspend. I'm stumped, what could I be forgetting?
Anyone else have this problem? I've checked the "Disable screen saver while playing movies" checkbox, but my screen still fades to blank after 10 minutes.This doesn't happen in VLC, but VLC is giving another whole problem[URL]
