Ubuntu :: Not Able To Disable Screen Lock After Suspend / Enable This?

Nov 16, 2010

I recently upgraded from Lucid to Maverick I can't seem to disable screen lock after resume from suspend. It's a minor annoyance, but still a considerable annoyance to have to enter my password every time the computer wakes up.

I've thusfar

1 - changed screensaver preferences to not lock

2 - set the gnome_keyring_hibernate, gnome_keyring_suspend, hibernate, and suspend, values all to false in gconf-editor

3 - commented out the line LOCK_SCREEN=true in /etc/default/acpi-support

BUT am still being prompted for a password every time the computer wakes up from suspend. I'm stumped, what could I be forgetting?

Ubuntu :: Disable Caps Lock With Xmodmap In Natty?

Apr 29, 2011

I just upgraded machine to natty, after which the xmodmap configuration remapping capslock stopped working (as in not doing anything at all). Running xmodmap manually (-e "clear Lock") doesn't have any visible effect either. I haven't tried doing this on another machine (I'm only close to one machine running ubuntu and reinstalling seems rather overkill), but the same config worked before the upgrade, and is working on another machine running arch.

Is anyone else having these issues and, if so, has anybody found a solution? The line of interest is, simply, "clear Lock".

Ubuntu :: Middle Mouse Button - Disable CAPS LOCK Key?

May 3, 2010

I just upgraded to 10.04 (and a new machine) from 8.04 and I can't seem to find a way to have the middle button on my mouse act as a double click like I had it on my old machine. I tried putting the input stanza from my old xorg.conf but then X would not come up. The new tab thing it does in Nautilus is driving me nuts. I see the xorg.conf isn't really used anymore, and there is something about making rules in udev but I can't seem to find the exact wording that I need to make that one rule. I would also like to disable the CAPS LOCK key if anyone knows how to do that without xorg.conf. Maybe someone can point me to a udev tutorial?

Debian Hardware :: Bluetooth Keyboard Disable On Lock Keys

May 6, 2015

I've got myself a a Filco Majestouch Convertible 2 which is a USB/bluetooth keyboard.

When I use it in USB mode it works perfectly. I would like to use it in bluetooth mode and I've found that it has problems. When I hit either Numlock or Capslock it stops responding.

I'm running Debian Testing and it was last updated a few days ago (02/05/2015). I've tested the keyboard using Ubuntu 14.04 live cd and it worked flawlessly even hitting Numlock & Capslock didn't stop it.

If I run btmon to monitor the keyboard it shows that after I've hit capslock or numlock it still sends signals to the computer. So there is information being sent to the computer but these characters do not make themselves to my application. I'm just testing with a terminal window.

Here is the output from btmon whilst the keyboard is connected and working:

Hitting the 'a' character
a> ACL Data RX: Handle 35 flags 0x02 dlen 14 [hci0] 16.769645
Channel: 65 len 10 [PSM 19 mode 0] {chan 1}
a1 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ..........

[Code] .....

Here are the versions of software I'm using;

Code: Select allbluetooth                                                   5.23-2                                          all          Bluetooth support

Fedora :: F10, F11- Remap Keys ( Disable Caps Lock And So On With Xmodmap )?

Jun 20, 2009

In Fedora 10 they decided to change to "evdev", so if you used xmodmap in F9, these mapping have changed in F10 and F11 for that matter. In order to find the new key values start

Code:

xev and press a button you would like to know the keycode for. Write this value down. When done, make a file ".xmodmap" and put in the values. "man xmodmap" explains the format. Not easy to understand! So here is how mine looks like.

Code:
clear Lock
keycode 112 = Caps_Lock
keycode 118 = Delete
keycode 119 = Home

[Code]...

This layout is MUCH more logical than the original. Now Delete is the key just to the right of the Backspace key. Back spaces deletes to the left, and Delete deletes to the right, so these keys shoudl of course be next to each other Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End now have the same structure as the arrow keys below. This layout makes it much easier to navigate without looking at the keys, because now the layout makes sense And why shouldn't 0 be to the left of 1? of course it should. 0 is lower than 1.

Slackware :: KDE 4.4.5 - No Lock Screen - No Screen Saver

Aug 23, 2010

What happens is that I resorted to deleting my .kde directory after my kid destroyed my profile where title bar, menu, konsole get broken. After deleting, I login again thus regenerating the .kde directory. To avoid my kid from messing my desktop, I tried to lock it. It does not lock.

It just need a KDE full restart perhaps since when I login the other day, it now works.

I'm updated to Slackware current for almost a month already and have not played a lot on KDE desktop (busy programming stuff).

However, on day I tried to lock the desktop in KDE to avoid the kid from destroying my cool desktop setting, but it didn't lock. Cool, so I tried screen saver and add an option to lock the screen.

When I test screen saver, it displays. But when I wait for 1 minute(I set it that way), it doesn't fire up. Not even after 15 minutes which I think the default.

It usually work before (several months ago) using the lower version of KDE. It is just last Saturday that I noticed it.

I tried to dig the profile management but I could not find anything relevant there.

Ubuntu :: Freezes Sometimes After Screen Lock?

Mar 31, 2010

Sometimes after I enter my password after the screensaver has locked the screen, it will not take my password (even though entered correctly). It seems to lock up. After about 2 mins it says something about a time-out (wish I could do screencaps). Then it will reset and have a gray window the same size as the password input window but on the upper portion of the screen, and a password entry window as normal, but in the lower part of the screen. This time, it accepts the password and logs me in.This is a 2-part post.First, how to bypass having to wait for the timeout (for whatever is timing out). The second is to see if anyone knows an answer to the problem and a fix. After it freezes, hold CTRL-ALT and tap F1.This will taking you to a virtual terminal. Log in with your username and password. Then type:

Code:
$ pkill screensa
This will match gnome-screensaver and kill the program that is frozen. You then need to type

[code]....

Ubuntu :: Continous Screen Lock ?

Jun 9, 2010

I am experiencing a really annoying issue with ubuntu 10.04. Wether the "lock screen when screen saver is enabled"option is ticked or not, it will anyway request me to insert the password.

And that's but the lighter problem: Screen saver keeps poping on while I write, browse and whatever, and changing its properties won't help at all. It just keeps pestering me! (while i'm writing this, i've already had my screensaver popping in about 15 times)

And last but not least, even if I log as administrator and unthick the "request password"... it will always keep asking ... what to do?

Ubuntu :: Can't Come Back From A Screen Lock

Apr 29, 2011

Living with others, I've made it a habit to lock my laptop if I walk away from it (Ctrl+Alt+L), but with the recent upgrade to 11.4 I've run into a problem: when I go to unlock my laptop it just gives me a black screen instead of the "enter your password" menu. All I get is the mouse.

The only work around I have for this is to log into a TTY and then restart the laptop.

In case it's significant, the exact process I go through is as follows: Lock my screen (Ctrl+Alt+L), close the laptop lid (power management is set to just blank the screen instead of suspend), walk away for 10+ minutes, open lid, and then I run into my error.
