View 5 RepliesI have spent many time searching for my prob but couldn't solve it. i installed ubuntu 9.10 recently. the problem is that my integrated webcam and microphone are not being detected. i tried cheese, camorama webcam viewer and skype.. its like that webcam drivers are not installed. and i couldn't find any drivers.
camorama gives the error: could not connect to video device(/dev/video0)
cheese also says No camera found!
reading other threads i found that lsusb comand output might help so here is its output.. code...
I've been using slackware64 13.1 ever since it came out on my Dell Inspiron 1525, and I haven't really had any problems with my webcam in that time. However, last time I tried to use skype - I noticed that it couldn't detect it.
In kinfocenter, my webcam is picked up (OmniVision Technologies). The only time I've had a similar problem in the past is when I used the "Compact" option in lilo.conf, and the webcam wouldn't turn on. Just removing the option solved the problem.
Since I don't know what steps caused this to happen, I'm not sure where to start fixing it
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10, Dell Inspiron 1545. I have the NDISwrapper installed, and the driver shows up in "Hardware Drivers" as activated (Broadcom STA wireless driver) it also shows up in "Windows Wireless Drivers" (bcmwl6) but it still won't allow me to connect wirelessly.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble in getting the wireless up in Ubunto 10.04. Under Wireless Networks it says "wireless disabled". I have a dual boot with Windows 7, installed Ubunto with the help of Wubi installer. My laptop is Dell Inspiron 1545, with a 64 bit architecture.I have already done checking and enabling the wireless driver by going to System- Administration-Hardware Drivers and choosing Broadcom STA driver.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dell Inspiron 1545 with wireless card Dell wireless 1397 802.11g. It was working fine with Windows and Ubuntu 9.04 (I've got the two OS installed alongside). But as soon as I upgraded my Ubuntu to version 10.4 I realised it lost its wireless connection! I updated the system, the hardware driver for Broadcom STA wireless driver is activated and in use (according to Ubuntu Hardware drivers checker) but the fact is that I can only connect on the Internet if I hook the net cable on it, when I run the mouse over internet connection icon at the topright side of the monitor I see "no network" message and when I left click on it the option "wireless network" it's disabled and gray. How can I get my wireless card back working?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu right now. But I wanted to install Fedora 12 on my Dell inspiron 1545 laptop. My questions are can I use a live cd if available for fedora 12 and then install it on my laptop like we can do for ubuntu. Are all the drivers available automatically installed during installation.
The problem I faced my last installation with fedora 11 was that I could not get the wireless installed and I was unsuccessful in installing the wireless drivers using ndis wrapper or b43-legacy or something.
Can you give me a detailed link which could allow me to install the wireless drivers and also the video drivers for my laptop. The problem I am facing with my ubuntu 10.04 is that it is slow, the flash plugin is worst i guess, some of the flash videos are very slow.
Taking all of these into account can someone suggest me a good operating system. I am pretty much interested in learning linux rather than just using it like a windows operating system. I am considering, fedora 12, suse 11.2, linuxmint, centos, mandriva. Which one could be a best possible for my installation.
As I am not willing to purchase a dvd for these linux flavors can I use my flashdrive to install.
How can I install Linux Red Hat 9.2 on my new dell Inspiron 1545. When I want to installed it, it will get to a stage and will ask me of drivers. But on my desktop I don't have such problem.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, but I can't connected to the Internet with a wired or wireless connection. I have a BT Home Hub 2 wireless router. I can connect to the Internet when running Windows Vista, but not with Ubuntu.
I tried installing the Broadcom STA driver off of the live disk, which initially seemed to work. However, I still couldn't connect to the Internet and when I clicked on System > Administration > Hardware Drivers, there weren't any proprietary drivers to install or that had been installed. Also, when I reboot, Ubuntu tries to connect to my network automatically but always fails. That's what makes me think that a driver has been installed, but just isn't the right one or isn't working.
As the title says the option in the SCREENSAVER(Power Management Preferences)Put display to sleep when inactive for is not working. I have selected 2 minutes, and even after 1 hour it will not shutdown the display.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card and a Marvell Yukon 88e8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller, and I cannot for the life of me get the internet to connect. I've tried both wired and wireless connection. I have a PPoE connection through a Verizon FIOS Actiontek router I believe, though the PPoE part may be wrong, I had one five years ago when I first got their internet so they may have changed it. Point is that the ethernet and internet won't work, and without a working ethernet I can't fetch the right drivers for anything.
I had also tried plain ubuntu 10.04 and couldn't get them to work then either. It said 'disconnected' at first, and then said 'device not ready' There is no hardware switch but there is a key toggle. It doesn't seem to matter what state the wireless was in before booting into Ubuntu Studio, so I'm lost as to where to even start. Even though the network manager isn't there like in regular ubuntu, I assume there will be a simple way to connect to the internet once the drivers are found, right?
I've seen issues and read about fixing them, but usually it uses an ethernet connection to fix the wifi connection and, being new to linux (<50 hours worth of experience lifetime), all I managed to do trying to fix it myself was screw up the installation to the point where the laptop couldn't access the home folder and I had to reinstall. Other than that, I am usually very good at following instructions, as long as they apply to my laptop's issue I guess
The only other issue is minor, I can't seem to control the USB mouse I have, but the trackpad works fine so it's no big deal, probably a matter of downloading the mouse driver once the internet works.
Currently I do have internet access via the same laptop while booting Windows 7 (I installed Ubuntu Studio 10.04 on a 10GB Partition with the idea of using an external HD for most data storage).
Oh and it is a 64-bit machine, the Studio version I installed is 32-bit.
I have install 64bit version of Fedora 12 on a new Dell Inspiron 1545 with a Dell 1397 wireless card. It actually uses a Broadcom BCM4312 chip.
I have install the following rpms:
Code:
broadcom-wl-5.10.91.9.3-1.fc12.noarch
kmod-wl-2.6.31.9-174.fc12.x86_64-5.10.91.9.3-3.fc12.11.x86_64
kmod-wl-5.10.91.9.3-3.fc12.11.x86_64
code....
what I do not understand is the state of the card as unavailable. how I can activate this card?
I have Dell Inspiron 1545. It works fine on wired but fails on wireless.
I am using wicd as an interface.
It always comes up with the following error: Connection Failed: Bad password.
I have checked the passwords in both wicd and the router.
They seem to be the same. Am I missing something ?
I just completed installing openSuse 11.1 I followed the detailed steps given in Getting Your Wireless to Work When I try to scan for available APs in the vicinity, I get the following error.
~> sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
Can someone guide me in configuring my wireless connection. Also, since I do not happen to have a wired connection, I am alternating between openSuse and windows everytime i need internet.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 (Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit) that I use as my main comp, and a Dell Latitude C800 (currently Slackware 12.1) that just sits on my desk all day.I want to do two things (the second one isn't as big of a deal, but I really want to do the first):
1)I want to plug in my external hard drives into the Latitude and be able to link the Inspiron to the Latitude via ethernet cable and access/modify the files on the Latitude and external HDs using the Inspiron. Also I would like to have apache running on the Latitude so that when I'm connected, I can get to a custom site I've made for displaying the contents of said HDs.
2)I would like to be able to extend my desktop from the Inspiron onto the Latitude while still doing the above if possible. I figure with X it must be possible, but I don't know how to go about doing it and I only want to do that if I can get the first part working.
I have to install a Windows XP on my laptop. I started to install Windows, but after the first step (before booting Windows from hard disk) I received Disk Error at booting time. I reinstalled grub and everything is fine with Ubuntu, but I can't boot the Windows partition to finish installing this OS.

This card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.
The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.
I have Dell 1545 pre-loaded with Ubuntu 9.04. It has Oracle VM VirtualBox installed, for which I run Ubuntu 10.04. I have downloaded drivers for Ubuntu 10.04 to interface with Lexmark X6650, and can easily print documents from Ubuntu 10.04. However, I cannot figure out how to access the scan function.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm an experienced user in Windows but a complete novice in Linux. I have a dual boot with ubuntu and 7 ultimate, the thing is that Ubuntu doesn't recognize my wi-fi card. Windows Device Manager tells me that my card is "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Minicard" made by Broadcom. I don't know if my problem is with a driver or incompatible hardware, the ISO is perfect because I already installed linux on every computer in my house.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe kernel-PAE-2.6.30.5-43 upgrade will not boot on my Dell 1545 notebook. The initialization stops and the systems freezes right at the point that the login prompt should appear. I do not have invidia drivers. I have Intel video drivers. Also there is a loud 'pop' in the sound system early in the initialization sequence. For the time being, I have removed the 2.6.30.5-43 upgrade via yum.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 1545 laptop with ubuntu 9.1 32-bit installed (the 64-bit had a bug with the wireless drivers which is why I have not used it). Initially, the laptop worked well with the wireless (a sky router with WPA security) but now, the wireless signal drops after a couple of minutes of usage. I have to reboot the laptop or sometimes reboot the router as well to regain the wireless signal. I am using the Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver.
I have an older dell inspiron 6400 as well with the same OS and driver and it works perfectly without any problems for hours / days.
get the Ethernet driver for dell laptop 1545. I am using Centos 5.3

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently rebooted my computer, switching from Vista to Ubuntu 10.10, 32 bit. I've had troubles with my webcam ever since. I've tried every single suggestion from the Ubuntu Forums and nothing works, and I am now quite desperate..
I'm installed Cheese but nothing else than a green dotted screen appears, I've also tried gucview which tells me that my webcam is recognized under the name of USB 2.0 Camera.
When I enter lsusb in the terminal, here is what appears:
natacha@natacha-EasyNote-MX36:~$ lsusb
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
[Code].....
The webcam doesn't work with any program, but since it does partially work with Cheese, I would think that I either have to install an additional driver or that my camera is not compatible with Ubuntu, which would really suck.
The closest similar case I've found on the net was this one : [URL] . Apparently it's about a Bug 16575 but the problem doesn't seem to have been resolved either.
I bought a Dell Inspiron with pre-installed ubuntu. All has been working for the last year and recently my integrated webcam stopped working. I was trying to use it on skype and it did nothing, although the program recognises I have a webcam, I tried cheese and the power light on my webcam comes on but again the screen does nothing.

Do I have to install a special application? Or edit a configuration file in order to make it work?
