Sep 4, 2010I don't know what have I done, but when I switch a window, the cursor always moves to the middle of the window I've just switched to. How can I disable it?

Jun 29, 2010If I have Dolphin up and running, I will activate a folder, hit Enter, and nothing happens unless my mouse is moving around the screen.I may have Chromium Browser or Firefox running with another app, and when I use Alt-Tab to switch tasks, the app selector window will not appear unless I'm moving the cursor. And once I have chosen the app to switch to, it will not actually make the switch unless the cursor is in motion across the screen.I am running Kubuntu 10.04, KDE 4.4.2

Ubuntu :: 10.10 Hangs Unless Typing Or Moving Cursor?
Nov 14, 2010I've used Ubuntu for a year or two on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1440), but with the release and install of 10.10, whenever I'm not moving the cursor or typing, it freezes up. I can get it to unfreeze by typing/moving cursor usually.I dual boot between Ubuntu and Mint and it also does this on Mint 10. When I would reboot, the hanging would stop for awhile, but would come back 10 - 20 minutes later. It would continue until I rebooted again. Clearly I can't use 10.10, which is a huge bummer for me.

May 29, 2010I was looking around in Xfce4 Taskmanager to see what's taking up some memory/processor power, and I noticed when I move the cursor around in cirlces, the CPU spikes from about 5%-10% clear up to about 40%. I also have Audacious2, Chromium, and a file manager open as well.
Why is this? My system is an Eee PC with a 1.6GHz Atom processor and 2GB of DDR2 RAM.

Mar 22, 2015My mouse cursor is disappearing when it's not moving, or when I scroll a window with the middle wheel... Then when I move the mouse, the cursor is appearing!
This has started after few things...:
- old video card has died (ati hd4850)
- integrated motherboard video card used (ati hd4250) after solving the black screen (xorg, ati drivers... you know :s )
- since many weeks, computer has not been used before I've plugged a hd7970, solved 1 more time the black screen (.....)
And after many updates + this new video card = cursor is kidding :p
I've tried to change my cursor settings in the GUI config, nothing better.
MATE + XFCE
Problem solved by renaming all cursor files...

To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape.It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. It ends up being lower by what appears to be the height of the top panel bar. It's as if the position is calculated by adding the panel bar height, without having first subtracted the panel bar height in the current workspace to make it consistent.

One feature I did like, though, was that every time a window was maximized, the title bar was integrated into part of the top panel... which saved a lot of space on this tiny little screen. Nov 16, 2010when i move a window around on my desktop its splited up into two where the bottom half sluggishly follows the top half i.e. the top half of the window is leading as i move the window around the desktop rather than moving around smoothly(i.e. moving the say vlc around without the window splitting[moving it around as one]. this issue also persist in fire fox where when i scroll down a web page, the page is split in two where one half of the webpage overlaps the other dependant whether i scroll up or down.

Sep 7, 2010I have a toplevel window that I want to place depending on another toplevel window. I use gtk_window_move(widget, x, y); At startup this function is called several times and y is changed ones from 412 to 413 and x is always 0(checked with gdb in netbeans). The window gets placed at x=10 and y=400 or so. If I do not use variables but pure ints for x and y it gets placed correctly even if its the same values. I suspect that my window manager notice this change of y and place the widget for me. Is this correct and how do I tell the WM not to do so?
This change of y is due to window size is just a local size and not the correct one as in X. Can i force uppdates from X to the local cache?

Feb 23, 2010I noticed that while Compiz has every keyboard shortcut imaginable for moving windows between desktops, there's no shortcut for moving a window to a specific display when using dual monitors.
So far, I've found the best method is to use the command line automation tool: xdotool - [url]
Here's what I did:Test out the xdotool in a new terminal window using this command

This should move your terminal window 100 pixels in from the top left of the leftmost display.
Find out the top-left coordinates of your rightmost display by using the Nvidia X Server Settings tool in Main menu > Administration or via the terminal:

Go to X Server Display Configuration and click the rightmost Display in the layout section. Its position offset should be displayed in the position field. Make a note of these two numbers.
Create a script to move your window, either to the leftmost screen or the rightmost screen, using this code or similar:

Remember, the number at the end is an argument that denotes the display (1 for left, 2 for right). Assign a keyboard shortcut to your custom shortcut. Repeat for the right display. Now when you press the keyboard shortcut, the active window should be moved to either the left or right display!

I've been looking for a similar way to accomplish this in (KDE) Kubuntu. I know that you can right-click on a window in the Task Manager and use "To Desktop" to move a window, but I'm just curious if the same thing can be accomplished with the keyboard.

Feb 11, 2011Yes im refering to Windows Degrade and how over time windows just running will degrade and start causing errors. DLLs go missing and bizzare things. Ive seen wierd things happen on a windows machine that is dedicated to one function. Well to my point, recently I have been having many linux issues, not like normal or anything throughout the years I have experimented with linux though.
1)entering fullscreen on VMware crashes linux sometimes (no Ctrl+Alt or Ctrl+Alt+F2 ect)
2)using a different monitor haults the virtual machine while other monitors do not (I have 4)
3)Java apps freeze and require moving the window offscreen (below the screen) to redraw
4)general linux freezing
5)glitch with xinerama that repeatedly teleports mouse between two monitors causing the system to be unusable (no Ctrl+Alt+F2 or anything either)
At first I thought they were all related to VMware but they may not be. I run VMware everyday for my slingbox and light EXE-ing when wine isnt an option. So I may not be asking for fixes to all these problems but whats going on? Ive seen linux installs last years and believed linux to not degrade.

Apr 21, 2011I'm fairly new to ubuntu and I've been messing around with customizing my desktop/UI over the past week or so and I must have messed something up. After I got sick of how slow Wallpapoz was to change backgrounds between workspaces (I'm using GNOME) I turned on the Wallpaper plugin in Compiz and turned off the nautilus desktop. That worked great for the backgrounds but now whenever I try to drag windows around the cursor shudders and shakes and the wondows won't move smoothly. I eventually get them to where I want them to go but it's very annoying.
So far, I have re-enabled the nautilus desktop and reinstalled nautilus with synaptic, neither of which did anything.

Aug 21, 2011I installed today debian wheezy from OpenSUSE system via bootstrap. I have some strange behaviour with kde. At first kde worked fine and the only problem was that if I tried to logout from kde session, instead of kdm shows up, a black screen appear with mouse cursor working. I first ignore this error(because I had some problems with audio) and just reboot from vt console or sometimes restart kdm service. After I solved the audio problem I've searched to find some solution about kdm black screen problem. I found on kde forums a solution about terminate xserver option on kdmrc file, which didn't work in my case, but create another problem.
The problem is that now when I pass the mouse cursor from windows topbars I have glitches on window decorations. So I disable the above option again, reboot but the graphics problems was still there. I tried to uncheck vsync from desktom effects and the resault was all desktop effects to be disabled. Now I cannot re-enable desktop effects any more. But now I can logout and relogin. 3D works fine(glxgears works) but I cannot enable desktop effects. And I think that some effects work, because I see some smooth movements and fade outs when I pass the mouse cursor on kmenu items. My card is ATI radeon HD 4650, and I have the xorg-video-ati driver installed.
Ubuntu :: Cut Random Text And When The Cursor Focus Jumps Back To The Location Of The Cursor On The Screen
Jul 1, 2010Im running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.
Ubuntu Installation :: Cursor Is Always Busy Cursor After Upgrade To 10.04
May 1, 2010Am running Ubuntu NBR as the sole OS on my Dell Mini 9. Switched over in March to 9.10 NBR. Everything worked fine.Upgraded to 10.04 when it was released. It's awesome EXCEPT for this busy cursor thing.As soon as I log in, all the time my cursor is the spinning wheel of busyness.... It works just as a normal cursor would - my computer also does not seem to be slower due to any operations.If I open an application, the cursor will behave as usual within the window but if I more my cursor to the title bar or switch out of the application, the "busy cursor" resumes.

I downloaded the new skin but am unable to unzip or move it without /root permissions. I don't know how to acquire this without being in terminal. So I figured there had to be some way to go into the terminal and use it to move the unzipped folder from the desktop to the aMSN skins folder.

May 11, 2010I use middle click much more than right with my Asus EEEpc 900, so I prefer to use it with two fingered tap. Default configurations for multiple finger taps are 2 = right and 3 = middle. I got this reversed with this guide ("Make middleclicking work in Firefox again...":[URL] but after an update it doesn't work anymore. I tried to install the .deb again, but Ubuntu tells me that the system already has a newer version of it.
P.S. If only we'd get this configured straight from the GUI of mouse settings like the scrolling options...
