View 3 RepliesI've got a problem with my Arch flashdisk. When I start xorg, my mouse cursor keeps moving left until it reaches the edge of the screen, where it stops. I checked the connector, etc., but it didn't help, so I guess it's software-related.What can be causing the problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn one Ubuntu desktop 10.04 I got an ati 4800 series using the proprietary drivers. All was working well until a reboot a couple of days ago. I am not sure if it had something to do with one of the massive updates I installed on that day. After that, operations like scrolling, moving windows etc have been dramatically slow. I tried to boot from live cd with 10.04 and everything seemed ok.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a very faint but noticeable electric-like buzzing/grinding. It is not the hard drive but sounds very similar.
It occurs when i move scroll bars, or drag windows. It is highly replicable.
The only other time this has happens is when i install KDE which resulted in me reinstalling. Something id prefer to avoid. I haven't installed KDE this time, but this seems to have started immediately after replacing my fstab file which i accidentally deleted. That's the only thing i can think of.
I was looking around in Xfce4 Taskmanager to see what's taking up some memory/processor power, and I noticed when I move the cursor around in cirlces, the CPU spikes from about 5%-10% clear up to about 40%. I also have Audacious2, Chromium, and a file manager open as well.
Why is this? My system is an Eee PC with a 1.6GHz Atom processor and 2GB of DDR2 RAM.
I don't know what have I done, but when I switch a window, the cursor always moves to the middle of the window I've just switched to. How can I disable it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've used Ubuntu for a year or two on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1440), but with the release and install of 10.10, whenever I'm not moving the cursor or typing, it freezes up. I can get it to unfreeze by typing/moving cursor usually.I dual boot between Ubuntu and Mint and it also does this on Mint 10. When I would reboot, the hanging would stop for awhile, but would come back 10 - 20 minutes later. It would continue until I rebooted again. Clearly I can't use 10.10, which is a huge bummer for me.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy mouse cursor is disappearing when it's not moving, or when I scroll a window with the middle wheel... Then when I move the mouse, the cursor is appearing!
This has started after few things...:
- old video card has died (ati hd4850)
- integrated motherboard video card used (ati hd4250) after solving the black screen (xorg, ati drivers... you know :s )
- since many weeks, computer has not been used before I've plugged a hd7970, solved 1 more time the black screen (.....)
And after many updates + this new video card = cursor is kidding :p
I've tried to change my cursor settings in the GUI config, nothing better.
MATE + XFCE
Problem solved by renaming all cursor files...
1) What is the window effect called that adjusts all open windows into a viewable position while darkening the backgrounds?2) Is there a source or an already made list of packages ready so I can install it on a different operating system? I'm sticking with F14 as my main Desktop Os, however, would like to use this on a Live USB with Archbang Linux.

And once I have chosen the app to switch to, it will not actually make the switch unless the cursor is in motion across the screen.I am running Kubuntu 10.04, KDE 4.4.2
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two monitors set up on my Asus N61J laptop, but have a weird problem:When I move the mouse to right-hand edge of the Left (Primary) screen, it disappears. To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape. It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's a little annoying, as it makes it hard to select the Logout/Shutdown/Status menu

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.
I have installed fedora 11, now i want to install touch driver for my dell 15 laptop. when i m moving cursur its moving but when i m clcking on touch pad to open anything its not opening, to open i have 2 select any file then i have to click touchpad keys.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAm running Ubuntu NBR as the sole OS on my Dell Mini 9. Switched over in March to 9.10 NBR. Everything worked fine.Upgraded to 10.04 when it was released. It's awesome EXCEPT for this busy cursor thing. As soon as I log in, all the time my cursor is the spinning wheel of busyness.... It works just as a normal cursor would - my computer also does not seem to be slower due to any operations. If I open an application, the cursor will behave as usual within the window but if I more my cursor to the title bar or switch out of the application, the "busy cursor" resumes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using rxvt-unicode version 9.06 at Ubuntu 9.10. I was used to aterm, where you can use SHIFT + up/down arrow to scroll the printed output with a line up or down. You can also use SHIFT + pgup/pgdown to scroll one screen up or down.In urxvt I can use the pgup/pgdown combination as well, but can't use the up/down arrow combination. It is very useful to be able to scroll by single lines. Do you have any idea how to enable the up/down arrow scrolling?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI like the buttons on the left. I'm running 10.04 & I know how to move them. The problem is that changing themes will move them back right. OK, if the new theme has them on the right that's OK. But going back to the other theme doesn't change them back. They don't seem to be controlled by the theme, or I'm just not doing it right.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the web browsers I know, by pressing the space bar you scroll down one "page", lets call it. To effect the opposite motion, you can press <PageUp> or <Backspace>. But I can't believe there is not a key or key combination nearer the space bar to scroll pages up.In less, you can use the space bar and the b key, and you see how this key has strategically been chosen, as it is close to the space bar. Also, they lie near the bottom of the keyboard, a comfortable spot to place one's fingers. So, is there a pair of keys, one for page scroll up, the other for page scroll down, and such that one is next to the other and at the same time near the bottom of the keyboard in the most used web browsers or in some of its styles?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI like less and use it as my default pager in Linux. However, there are times that I am scrolling down through a large document quickly and less exits when I reach the end of the document before I have time to stop scrolling. I'd like less to exit only I type q, and not because I ask it to scroll beyond the end of the document. Is that possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using emacs 23.1.1 on Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-17-generic. When I scroll up and down in a file, occasionally some of the lines are not refreshed properly. i.e. if a line with a lot of text is replaced with a line that has little text, some of the old text that used to be on the line remains (see attached screenshot, near the bottom).
I have the same problem in Kile, so it must not be a bug with either program directly (I think?). I do not have the problem with gedit.
For the record, the emacs message buffer contains the following on startup

I moved from a Linux environment from one company to another and one annoying difference came out:When I used to run an application in a terminal (no GUI), the transcript lines were presented one the window - when the window was full then the scrolling of the lines would continue only if one hit the space bar to proceed (of course waiting to user input did not stop the run).
In the new environment the behavior is different - transcript lines keep going on and on so I need to scroll up - and moreover each page-up command is cancelled by the new lines appearing.perhaps this is also reproduce with other Linux commands , say "find" or "ls".
I need some help in determining how to have a color splash image display in place of the Linux scrolling-text during the boot-up process on an embedded Linux device. The kernel used is a stripped-down version of Linux (kernel 2.6.29), which has been custom configured. I am using syslinux as the bootloader. I was told that Plymouth might be the way to go with this, but I'm not sure.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a lil' problem with a new project. I'd like to find out how to set the ability to change to the next track in a playlist by using ongly the scroll wheel of a standard usb mouse. The objective is to assign a keystroke or a command to both mouse button 4 and mouse button 5 (scroll wheel up and scroll wheel down), so that a program like rythmbox or vlc would skip to the next or previus song in the playlist.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have limited experience in terminal, but let me first explain what I am trying to do to see if there is some easier way to do it. Basically I want to change the skin in aMSN. I downloaded the new skin but am unable to unzip or move it without /root permissions. I don't know how to acquire this without being in terminal. So I figured there had to be some way to go into the terminal and use it to move the unzipped folder from the desktop to the aMSN skins folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are really scratching our heads on this one.We moved 3 Dell PowerEdge servers with Fedora 12 x86_64 from one datacenter to another.2 of them are fine but the 3rd we cannot log into any more. The KDE login screen comes up,e user names are shown, but our passwords don't work.Going to the console, we cannot log in as root with the password either. Also, I set up shared keys for ssh between the 3 boxes so that I could ssh between machines without entering my password -- that doesn't work either. This one is one of the head scratchers since /home is on a different disk.I'm 1,600 miles away and the tech that went into the cage to try from the console does not know Linux. Dunno how he got picked...
What exactly would have been corrupted to cause this behavior -- unable to login locally AND ssh authorized_keys no longer works?Oh, and apparently they were initially able to get into the machine from the console after the move since they were able to configure the NICs. But now we can't.We know how we can get a root login on a reboot from GRUB, but we don't know what to look for as far as what might be wrong with the system once we're in
