Ubuntu :: Configure 3 Monitors With ATI?

WHY I can't enable my 3rd and 4th monitor on Ubuntu 10.04? Does it have anything to do with xorg? I can easily do it in Windows! In ubuntu ATI control center will recognize the 3rd monitor but DO NOT let me enable it... the same about the video card! I tried to do it manually changing xorg.conf but it totally ignores it! I found this thread: [URL]Does it have anything to do with XRandR? I managed to get the Crossfire working and enable it after put two identical cards. I've tried adding a 3rd card to even try a 4th monitor but it will not let me at ALL... WHY THIS?? I can do it in Windows but I do not want to use Windows! Why do not allow to use more than 2 monitors??? I'm running a clean new installation of Ubuntu 10.04 64bit and I've installed the ubuntu drivers for my video card. I've a double ATI HD 5770 (crossfire) and a third video card in the motherboard (Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3).have 4 monitors, 3 in the crossfire and one in the motherboard. I've managed to do it in windows but in linux I can get max of two monitors working...

I am trying to configure Fedora 11 to run on two monitors. However, after hooking the second monitor up, I can not extend the display to it. Hell, in the display options, it doesn't even show that a second monitor is connected. Restarting X does not help either.

I was just wondering if is an easy way to configure three monitors run across two video cards (Nvidia Leadtek GTS250 PCI-E 2.0 1G 2DVI ) 2 on one, 1 on the other under the one xserver? I tried to get it going using the Nvidia driver package with no luck - 2 monitors seemed to be simple to configure using Twinview setting on a single xserver (my current settings) and I was hoping their may be a simple extension for three and if so is there an easy way to go about this? (I am new to Ubuntu).

I'm trying to get dual monitor support enabled in Suse 11.3 Previously I had this in Suse 11.2 using a dedicated NVIDIA graphics card with VGA and DVI output and this was done in a GUI. I now have 11.3 and a built in ATI card with VGA and DVI output When I run xrandr I get the following Code: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192 VGA-0 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 255mm

As both root and myself, I've gone into the:
configure desktop -> display and monitor
thing and set "primary output" to "DVI-I-1" and
set the DVI-I-2 connection to the "Right of DVI-I-1" position

Doesn't work when done either as root or as me. So, there *must* be a way. How?

I have been trying to configure dual monitors of different resolutions on 11.4 the Nvidia configuration utility does not know where or what to save anything anymore and goes wonky. Trying to use it is a dead end for me. X11 is a mess. What happened to SAX and things like this that were part of openSUSE and just worked? Supposedly we X11 got better. I think it's got over complicated and much worse. This stuff just worked in 11.1 and KDE 3.

I know it can be done, I just need to know what the hardware is called. There is a community center in the area and I might have a chance to help out. Due to not enough funding the center was only able to get One PC and five monitors. What I hope to be able to do ( and know its possible ) is get the hardware to make each monitor is own terminal with keyboard and mouse.

I found a tool made for Ubuntu called Xautoclick. I downloaded it and it is called "xautoclick-0.30.tar.gz" The installation notes say "tallatBe sure you have the proper development packages for your distribution installed (i.e. something like xserver-xorg-dev, gtk2-dev, et cetera). After that, run:
./configure make sudo make install" I have no clue what to do... I typed in "./configure" in the terminal and it says "bash: ./configure: No such file or directory?

I have a Dell inspiron 1525 laptop with a 1280x800 display and an external 1280x1024 monitor. I'm using 9.04 with openbox. I've done a loooot of online reading about how to get a dual monitor setup using xrandr, and I really don't know what I'm missing here. So here's the deal: I want to have my external monitor on the left of the laptop's display, and of course I want each of them to display different parts of the desktop.
First I set up the right resolution to each one of them (I do it using lxrandr). Typing xrandr -q in a terminal, I get the following:

When I plug in my second monitor the 3D cube disappears and I only have the desktop wall thing with a rectangle box from which to select which desktop I want to go to.
I have enabled multi monitor setting in Compiz, tried both one big cube and two separate cube settings but none work.

How do i fullscreen wow across two monitors in ubuntu? I am running ubuntu 10.04 with two 1024x768 lcd monitors running from a Nvidia 9800gt graphics card running in twinview. I ant to maximixe WoW(World of Warcraft)(running under wine) as fullscreen across both screens. The WoW client recognizes a resolution option of 2048x768, but when i apply it, it squeezes it onto one monitor. how to fullscreen across both?
And i have removed the touching sides of the monitor cases so the screens touch directly so it is feasible to play.
also, i am using the latest nvidia drivers

I have one Dell Ultrasharp U3011 (30", 2560x1600) and one Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP (20", 1600x1200)
When the 2007FP is in landscape mode it matches nearly perfectly in height both pixel and physically wise to the U3011.

The only way I was able to get this to work in Ubuntu was to run two separate X desktops and rotate the 2007FP manually in xorg.conf, and then join them by enabling Xinerama.
Two problems with this solution.
1.) Xinerama is deprecated in favor of Xrandr which I have not been able to make do this.
2.) When using Xinerama Compiz/XGL is disabled, making the desktop feel awfully flat.
Is there any way to avoid this? Is there any way to rotate just one of your displays and maintain Compiz/XGL functionality?
This is on the top computer in my signature.

I have an asus p5kpl-cm MB. I plugged in a radeon 9200 pci card. In the bios, I can set up:
pci/igd
igd/pci
igd
etc.
This determines which of the 2 displays (pci card or internal graphics on the MB) is the boot display. That determines which comes up with the bios screen and then once booted into ubuntu (10.04), this is the only adapter/monitor seen. The button detect monitors doesn't do anything.
lspci sees both my internal and pci card graphics. So, I can get either to work just fine (auto detected etc.) just not both at the same time.
I've tried all of the 3 above settings, and even when I set it to just igd, lspci still sees both my adapters. It identifies them correctly, and it works perfectly, detecting the monitor and knows the resolutions for each - just not both at the same time.
Does ubuntu know how to automatically configure more than one display w/o doing something else, or must I do something else to get both going together?

I have connected my Samsung TV to Ubuntu 11.04 via VGA Cable. It all works, but the problem is that on the TV screen its 2 cm to the right.
I don't have an option on the TV like on the monitors to move right or left or Auto adjust.
I have also tired under Monitor in System Settings, No Option and also under nVidia.

My graphics card is nvidia geforce 7900 GS. It has two DVI outputs, and I have one monitor plugged into each output. I am running proprietary drivers from nvidia, thus also the `nvidia-settings' tool.
I'm running with the TwinView setting, enabling nice dragging and dropping of windows between the two monitors, but here's the problem:
Only one of my two monitors have the gnome panels at the top and bottom of the screen. I would like the panels to show up on both screens.
how would I go about enabling this?
Bonus Question: Once this is enabled, if possible, would I then somehow also be able to have different virtual desktops be active on each monitor? If so, how?

I'm having trouble setting up dual monitors on my HP Pavilion dv7-1020us laptop, with an Nvidia 9600M GT graphics card, and Ubuntu 9.10. I installed Ubuntu via Wubi, on top of Windows 7. I tried this before on the same laptop when I was using Vista and Wubi, and Ubuntu was able to recognize my Graphics card, and install a proprietary driver. I wasn't able to test dual monitors, though. However, now that I'm using W7 and Ubuntu, it cannot use a dual-monitors correctly. It recognizes the monitor, but it only displays a mirror display of my Laptop monitor, not acting as a separate monitor, like I want it to. I tried messing around with the settings in the display menu, but nothing works. I tried downloading linux drivers for my card from Nvidia's site, but the file is in a .run extension, which I don't know how to install. What should I do to get this working?

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP laptop with an Intel 82852/82855 GM/GMC Graphics controller. I have a 2nd monitor attached to the VGA port (HP f1703). The problem is that the two screens have different resolutions. the laptop is 1280 x 768 and the other monitor is 1280 x 1024. The xorg.conf file that was created with Xorg -config set both monitors up with 1280 x 1024 resolution so my screen on the laptop looks all "squashed". I have tried to reconfigure it using the Display Preferences dialog but after i re-boot, both screens are unviewable and I have to restore my previous xorg.conf file. I went through the HOWTO: Jaunty Intel Graphics Performance Guide procedure to setup a "safe" configuration but didn't work and I had to restore my "good' xorg.conf file. What do I need to do to setup my two screens with the correct resolutions: 1280 x 768 and 1280 x 1024?

I have a ATI VisionTek 9250 128mb DMS59 PCI video card that I would like to use for dual monitors on Ubuntu 10.04 Gnome. I installed the card and booted the live cd. Both monitors are recognized when I go to the display settings, but when I un-check the mirror box, nothing changes. I am still only getting one monitor. I was previously using 9.10 and it sometimes worked, but not always.

Is it possible to run ubuntu with 3 monitors on 2x8400gs? What I have tried: Installed 10.04, enabled latest nvidia drivers. Enabled and arranged each monitor as a separate x window. However, when I did this configuration I couldn't move the programs from the (primary monitor) to the ones plugged to the other 8400gs. What I plan to use ubuntu for:
Mainly work in eclipse, firefox, and evolution. I have no interest in games since this machine is my workstation.

I use Kubuntu 10.04. I want to use multiple monitors in an extended way. When i connect a monitor to my laptop, i get the same desktop view on both monitors. When i go to system settings - display - multiple monitors, i see the message: "This module is only for configuring systems with a single desktop spread across multiple monitors. You do not appear to have this configuration".

I just got a new comp and trying to get a tri-monitor setup working. I have a 460 GTX which has 2 dvi & 1 mini hdmi and only 2 of those will work at a time (2xdvi or 1xdvi 1xhdmi) So while in the Nvidia control panel I select the 2 as separate x-screen but the 3rd wont allow that option. When I activate the Xinerama it doesn't seem to make any difference.
EDIT: Also the only way to get the 3 showing up in the control panel is to set 2 as separate x screen and 1 as twin view...But when I hit apply it says: Failed to set MetaMode (1) 'DFP-0: nvidia-auto-select @1920x1080 +0+0' (Mode 1920x1080, id: 0) on X screen 0.

I have a brand new installation of Ubuntu 10.10. I'm using a GeForce 8600GT graphics chipset. I have two monitors, and my goal here is to have them both working under Ubuntu in their full resolutions, and I've not had any luck with this yet. I've got a Viewsonic VE155s with a native resolution of 1024x768, and a Chimei CMV 221D with a native resolution of 1680x1050. When I first installed Ubuntu, both monitors were working, and the VE155s was working in its native resolution of 1024x768, but the CMV221D was stuck in 640x480.
The Nvidia video configuration utility was not identifying the latter monitor - it only reported it as DFP-0, and doesn't allow any resolution above 640x480 to be set. The mechanism (which has a name which I don't recall) which allows the OS to interrogate the monitor's firmware to find out the monitor manufacturer, model and accepted resolutions and frequencies to use does not seem to have worked. (I previously had the Nvidia driver installed, but I've since switched back to the default open source vesa driver. I won't use the closed Nvidia driver if I don't need to, but if I need to use it to get acceptable performance from this hardware than I will.)
So I did a little bit of reading and I did some hacking of xorg.conf. Previously I had the 15" monitor working in 1024x768 and the 22"
monitor working in 640x480. Now I've got the 22" monitor working in 1680x1050 as desired, and the 15" monitor not working at all. Here's a copy of my xorg.conf. For the sake of brevity I have not included the unnecessary bits such as input devices.

I had a dual monitor setup going for a while, then one monitor broke, and I dropped back down to one. In some ways, the computer seems to have noticed this. I have an NVIDIA card and the NVIDIA drivers, and in NVIDIA X Server Settings it shows only one display. I had it configured in the Xinerama fashion, two continuous desktops side by side.
However, my desktop is still drawn as though there are two monitors, the result being that I can only see half. This is easily apparent when I zoom out to the desktop cube. It wouldn't be much of a serious problem, except for some reason, several important applications I use for work are popping up messages on the part of the desktop that I can't access. I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers,driver reset might prompt whatever the problem is to go away (and it's good to do that regularly anyways) but no dice.

I'm trying to set up my monitor and tv for dual display but I'm having some problems. I want them to display the same thing so I've enabled twinview and I figured the second display position should be set as clone but when I save xorg and restart the x server the position reverts to absolute. Anyway, the monitor is set as the primary display and it's the one I'm having problems with. The tv is fine but the monitor's display is stretched off the screen so I can't see the far right or bottom of the screen. I'm very new to linux and I'm just finding my feet so if there's any other info needed you'll probably have to be very specific.
