Ubuntu :: Compiz - Cannot Drag Windows In Expo Mode
Jan 17, 2010I can't drag a window in the expo mode.
View 9 RepliesI can't drag a window in the expo mode.
View 9 RepliesI have installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 but didn't like the interface so on log in I just start in desktop mode. I am using the CompizConfig Setting Manager and want to activate Expo and other desktop extras. I have changed the System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects to extra but I still do not see Expo in ccsm. Do I need to install each plug in separately? I have included a screen shot of ccsm too.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs im sure most of you know, in gnome-shell when one activates the "activities" corner, much like in Kwin, you can view all of your workspaces, and the windows in each workspace are scaled so they are all visible. One can also drag and drop windows across workspaces, and when they do, the window "snaps" over to the other workspace.
Does anyone know of a way to make windows in compiz's expo plugin do such a thing?
Just installed most recent 64-bit Lucid RC last night and after fiddling around through Compiz, I cannot figure out how to drag an open program over to the next desktop workspace.
I use 4-workspaces (4x1) and while running 9.10, I could grab the title bar of an open program and drag it from workspace 1 to 2 or 3.
Now I can right click the title bar then move to another workspace or drag the program halfway into the next work space '2', then click over to workspace '2' and complete the move. But I would like to be able to completely drag it over again.
How is this accomplished?
is there a way to call Compiz' Scale plugin after the Expo plugin has be started? Basically I want it to work like on Mac OS X, where it's no problem to compine Spaces (Expo) with with Expos's "Show all windows" function (screenshot: [URL]).
Somehow the hot corners and the keyboard shortcuts are locked during the Expo view. Is it possible to unlock them? Or is there another Compiz plugin I can use?
I have a problem with Maverick. Whenever I change my volume or brightness from the keyboard, as soon as the indicator goes down, my mouse automatically switches to drag mode. I have to switch to open terminal by keyboard shortcuts and reboot
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell i was playing with some of the features Compiz has to offer, and im liking some of the stuff, i was using wobbly windows yesterday and it was perfectly fine, so i set it and left it, today i try and play around with it and the windows don't wobble when i drag them, however they do when i minimize or maximize.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.4, and the first thing I notice is that I can't drag the windows to other workspaces except from the small box down on the left, which is too small and annoying for me, I want to drag the window from the title bar. I can't find where to change that in the system, does anyone know how?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I enable the functionality that makes it's possible to switch desktop when dragging a window to the screen-edges?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading from Maverick to Natty (and re-enabling Desktop Cube/Cube Rotation in Compiz) I am unable to drag windows any more. I'm sure this'll be diagnostically useful; if I use the window context menu/drop-down and select Move, that also does nothing. Also, the window resize hovers do nothing, but the double-click full size|restore/middle and right click the maximize gadget to horizontally|vertically maximize do work. Further, the window management shortcuts to move windows do nothing. If I turn off Desktop Cube/Cube Rotation and go back to Wall/Expo, I still can't move windows using any of the methods mentioned in my previous update.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed 11.04 and I'm trying to set up dual monitors. I've installed the nvidia drivers and set the monitors to separate xscreen mode. It works fine, the mouse cursor moves freely between monitors, but when I try to drag windows over, it just wants to resize them to half screen. I've tried disabling grid in ccsm, and it stops the resizing thing, but I still can't drag the windows across.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI started using Linux when Karmic came out, so I'm a bit of a decorated newb. Anyway, I upgraded to Lucid and noticed something that I can't do anymore. I have a dual-screen setup with 2 workstations. I can drag windows from one screen to the next, but when I try to drag it over to another workstation, nothing happens anymore. The only way I can get it to work now is if I hold down the cursor on the desired window and hit Ctrl + Alt + L/R. How do I report this as a bug if it is indeed one? All I can find is a link to join a bug fixing team.
View 4 Replies View Related1. I can no longer drag windows from one workspace to another. Instead I have to drag them so they are off screen and then switch workspaces and drag it the rest of the way. Is there anyway I can change this.
2. Rhythm Box no longer minimizes into the to the top panel into the notification area icon. Is there anyway I can change this?
3. The volume control is now horizontal, no longer vertical is there a way I can change this?
So I have four monitors set up on Debian Lenny. They all work, but I can't drag windows to any other screens. I can open terminal on one screen and web browser on another fine, but if I try to open web browser on one screen and open it again on another it automatically goes to the same screen it is already open on. I need the four screens for network monitoring through the web browser. So I need one instance of web browser opened on each screen and can't do it. Here is my xorg.conf file.

I have opened dolphin and some other application (avidemux, dolphin, firefox, etc). in the first window (dolphin) i have a file. i drag it to another window/application and if i release the left-button of mouse, the window/application of the drag destination become active (raise). is it any way to make it to come in front/top (active) once mouse is over window while still dragging, before releasing the mouse? there is "focus" stings (focus under mouse/raise with the delay) in "windows Behavior". the focus under mouse is working fine, but is not working while dragging. it would be very handy to see where i drop the file, especially if i only see a small partition of the destination window, which is behind other windows.

How can I change the window focus mode in compiz in F14? I prefer point focus rather than click focus, but the 'system -> preferences -> windows' cannot run in compiz environment.
Also, can I save the position of the terminal in compiz? I don't want to adjust the terminal positions manually after each logging in.
I'm fairly new to ubuntu and I've been messing around with customizing my desktop/UI over the past week or so and I must have messed something up. After I got sick of how slow Wallpapoz was to change backgrounds between workspaces (I'm using GNOME) I turned on the Wallpaper plugin in Compiz and turned off the nautilus desktop. That worked great for the backgrounds but now whenever I try to drag windows around the cursor shudders and shakes and the wondows won't move smoothly. I eventually get them to where I want them to go but it's very annoying.
So far, I have re-enabled the nautilus desktop and reinstalled nautilus with synaptic, neither of which did anything.
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this or not. I had the expo, ring switcher, and the shift switcher configured to run when I put my cursor in each corner that I had set up to start the switcher. One day, I was doing schoolwork when the windows that I had spread out over the different workspaces all consolidated to Workspace 1 and none of my switchers worked. I tried rebooting the computer, reverting all changes I had made in Compiz, everything I knew how to do.

Is it possible to change the Expo(everything) shortcut from Super-S to just the F4 key?
Running - ubuntu 11.04[Unity].
I have a lucid stock install of Ubuntu, and the visual effects are set to Normal.
The Windows-E shortcut brings up the 'expo' display of all four workspaces in a line.
Is there a way of making (say) the top right corner of the screen sensitive so that moving the mouse there triggers the display of all workspaces?
Can this be done with 'stock' installed software?
gconf-editor has a promising looking key called 'expo_edge' at
/apps/compiz/plugins/expo/allscreens/options/expo_edge
but that might do something different.

I've just installed Kubuntu 11.04, switched on wobbly windows effect. It runs very smooth on my Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS with dual screen twinview turned on. However, I get these lines when I drag/move the window upwards - see screenshot:
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 10.04 and after installing the drivers for my graphic card ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570, windows borders do not appear anymore. When I type "metacity --replace" borders come back, but I can't use compiz, also when I try to disable "Window Decoration" from the compizConfig Settings it doesn't work, it keeps always enabled. I tried this hack here [URL] but it didn't work for me (or I didn't apply it correctly, I'm new to the system).
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust to preface this, I do have compiz running.
I'm facing a bug where any time I click anywhere inside a window, it performs the function of ALT-clicking the window -- just dragging it around the screen. The only way I can do a standard click on the window is if I hold down the ALT key.
I think this is a compiz issue, since it is fixed by killing compiz. I've had this issue before, but I can't remember how I solved it.
Last night I installed compiz-config and tried to activate the desktop cube and made the mistake of clicking through the alert messages without properly reading them, and then all of a sudden my window boarders disappeared. So now I have no close, minimise or maximise buttons. no file, edit, view, etc options and I cant move any windows. I completey removed compiz and the window boarders came back, but then when I re-installed it and started it with "compiz --replace" the boarders disappear again (in a side issue, now when I log in I have to manually start compiz with "compiz --replace", if anyone could help me with making compiz start by default again that would be great).
I'm currently using Natty 64-bit and the problem only seems present on Ubuntu Classic, Unity and fail safe mode both seem fine.
I'm pretty sure the issue is in a setting stored somewhere in /home as I only did a clean install last week and have /home on a separate partition so re-installing Ubuntu seemed like a quick solution but even after that the problem is still there.
I just installed ubuntu 10.10 on my notebook, and I had a problem with compiz, it loses the windows borders, when i excecute
Code:
compiz --replace
i get this output
Code:
Starting gtk-window-decorator
compiz: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/compiz/libdecoration.so: undefined symbol: decor_property_to_quads
I have recently upgraded to 11.04 and everything works except for compiz and emerald, every time I enable compiz to be the window manager the borders either do not work or they do not appear. I switched the window manager to metacity and now the borders work but I can not get any effects at all. Also emerald never replaced the window borders either.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI created a 2nd login that I set up with Gnome instead of Unity. Unity has a few things that drive me nuts like no notification area among other things. I want to still be able to access Unity to try to get used to it, but will probably use gnome mainly.Anyway, I like using the compiz desktop cube effect (also something I could not do in Unity). When I activated it, all my title bars (the top bar in most all windows) vanished. I have seen this before, but the normal fixes aren't working.
This is one thing that still bugs me about Linux/Ubuntu. A couple clicks and you just hose your desktop/ computer. It is not that easy to screw up a windows machine. It isn't even as if I clicked on something wrong. Is there a something about 11.04 that causes a bigger problem with compiz?
I have a dual monitor setup and I've used Scale for a few days now, but I'm still confused about the expected ordering of the windows within the same workspace. For example, the last focused window isn't necessarily placed at a fixed spot, e.g., top left corner. It seems that if a window on my left monitor is last focused and I invoke it on my right screen, then it'd appear on the top left corner. However, if a window on my right monitor is last focused, it gets past just the last focused window on my left monitor. The last focused window on my left monitor eventually shifts to the bottom right corner.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there is a way in compiz to open all the minimized windows in the taskbar? Since I want to use the "scale" feature in compiz for all of the windows. As what you already know is that, the "scale" feature only works for the open windows not the minimized ones. So I want a way to open all the minimized windows with a shortcut(using compiz or any thing else) and then use the scale feature again.
