View 3 RepliesI recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 but when I installed chromium and opened the application, it opened as usual but the icon did not appear in the dock. The only way I could switch to the chromium window would be to alt-tab.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu maverick meercat 10.10. I don't think it's very necessary to mention my hardware to get an answer to this question.I found out about the Cairo-Dock and fell in love with it. It annoys the hell out of me to have to start it every time I boot. I navigate to- System> Preferences> Startup ApplicationsUnder the startup programs tab I click on add... Now what??? Put the name as Cairo... what about the command. I don't know what file to navigate to.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried some more recent builds of Libre Office from Alien Bob and I'm still getting crashes when I try to dock the Navigator panel on the left side of the window for any of the office applications.
Details are in this post. More specifically, I'm running libreoffice-3.2.99.3-i486 from Eric. When I run 'oowriter' (Libreoffice Writer) from the command line, and then try to dock the navigator panel, I get this message after the crash:
Code:
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to
retrieve property `GtkOptionMenu::indicator-size' of type
`GtkRequisition' from rc file value "0" of type `glong'
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to
retrieve property `GtkOptionMenu::indicator-spacing' of type
`GtkBorder' from rc file value "0" of type `glong'
I don't know if it happens with the 64-bit version or not. I haven't tried it yet. I'm no stranger to submitting bug reports, but I haven't looked closely at Libreoffice's bug submitting procedures. I'll do that soon.
Although it would resemble the Unity desktop that some of us here may have run away from, is it possible to set the left-hand-side dock to remain on screen, possibly only sliding off when a program window needs it to?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI haven't used Ubuntu for a while, and just reinstalled it. I have one major dislike about the new version, There are several applications I click on and it takes me to the installer.How do I remove those types of applications or just install them all?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI feel shy asking this question but, 90% of the applications I install in Ubuntu (last release), do not show up later on in the applications menu, so I cant run them. I know it seems silly, but I can't find the way to handle this inconvenience. Is there a place (like Start> All programs in Windows), were I could find and run all the programs I install?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was any way to remove icons from the installed applications menu?I recently attempted to install GOG.com's Zork Anthology using Wine and when I de-installed, the icons for those files were still listed in installed applications. Is there anyway to delete them manually?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a large number of virtual machines, each with a basic set of about 30 applications. Obviously, I don't want to do everything manually so I'm looking for ways to automate this process. Multiple distributions (Ubuntu, Red Hat Ent., FreeBSD, CentOS, etc.) will be used, meaning I will have a few Ubuntu installs with the basic set of 30 applications, and multiple Red Hat installs with the same set, etc. So, I'm looking for advice on automating as much of this as I can, even if it means a new form of automation for each distro.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a programmatic way to get the list of all installed applications on Linux.
Also, how can we get the application activities in Linux OS like running applications name, time of day when they started, duration till the applications were running on system, application version etc.
Is there a way to do this in C/C++.
I am building an app that runs like a daemon and fetches the applications status and sends it to the network admin for him to monitor the application usage pattern on the user computers in the network.
I'm looking for a way to get a Mac OS X style dock on Xubuntu, I tried cairo and it was ok but I just got a black border around the dock which was annoying. And I tried looking up how to fix it and most places recommend turning on compositing which I had already had on in xfce. I'm not necessarily looking for animated stuff, just an icon based dock like that.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi just upgraded to ubuntu 11.04. I went into my setting and and accidentally clicked the wrong thing. View 7 Replies View RelatedI had this problem before and figured out that when I drag an item from a software and it activates the dock by touching the left side of the screen the dock wouldn't hide until I close the software that I dragged the item from. Now it is just happening with no explanation! Dock doesn't retreat at all!!!! I have to restart my computer every time it happens...
Come on Ubuntu developers, you guys shouldn't have release a version like that! Now is too late, I have upgraded my system from the 10.10 and just can't get it back without formatting. The "Ubuntu Classic" is also messed up, lots of features doesn't work properly as they used to do in 10.10. I am not aware of the reason which why gnome is gone and now we have this unity. In my opinion it is WAY WORST than gnome (and gnome wasn't that good)...
I installed the new ubuntu with unity. I then used compizconfig to edit some stuff. I wanted the launcher to be in the bottom and always show.
However, after I did this i ended up with:
how to fix this? I don't know how to open a terminal, a webpage since I don't have a dock or launcher. I'm using ubuntu through classic now.

However I really want to install the Avant Window Navigator but it says that it is not available in the current data. I tried sudo apt-get update but it still doesn't work! Is there a way round this as I can install other software?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to add the me menu to the cairo dock or is it something that I would have to wait for an applet to be made to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn cairo-dock when I hover over the 'shortcuts' applet it shows me what's in my 'places' menu, but I have to click twice on any object to open it, and then it opens two instances of whatever I opened. As in I click once, could wait up to an hour probably, then click again and finally it opens up but twice.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI think all I have to do is disable gnome-panel somehow, but I wanted to check here first, so I don't screw up my computer. As it is, I have the dock working great. However, I can't just turn off the panel, which I currently have at the top of the screen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy RhythmBox was on my Cario Dock and then all of a sudden its not allowing me to control it from the dock anymore. Like I use to be able to scroll down on it and it would go to next song.
Anyway to get it back on the dock and be able to use those gestures again?
I've been having problems with Cairo dock always showing below other windows. I have tried launching it with cairo-dock --keep-above and cairo-dock -a but to I have had no success. Even editing the settings from the configure to be "always on top" does not work.It was working before where it would appear above when I put the cursor at the bottom of the screen, but it isn't anymore, for whatever reason.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to see the labels above the icons in the dock when I hover over them. For some reason I can't see them now. I think I may have turned something off in the Cairo Dock settings and can't remember where to implement this functionality again.
