OK my problem unity 3d doesn't work on my system the icon's doesn't show on the dock on the left side of the screen thats the only problem. The top bar works and all the icon's work they just don't show a image of the program. Here is what i would like to do delete the side bar or stop it from loading and use a dock something like dockbarx or awn.I have seen a lot of websites of people using ubuntu classic like this but they don't look anything like unity and i like the look of unity. So is this possible and how would i do it?
1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
Sometimes when adding an application link to the Unity dock it does not display an icon in the dock, just a blank space.
An example would be the image manipulation app 'Pinta'. Installing this from the Ubuntu Software Centre, finding it in the apps menu and dragging it to the Unity dock results in a blank space being put in the dock.
I am happy to report a bug but can anyone explain why this happens?
Temporary work around for anyone with this problem:
1. Create a launcher for the app on the desktop 2. Move the launcher to ~/.local/share/applications 3. Drag it to the dock from there
I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 but when I installed chromium and opened the application, it opened as usual but the icon did not appear in the dock. The only way I could switch to the chromium window would be to alt-tab.
i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my dell inspiron n5010 and istalled the compizwhen i activate the disk cube or any thing the unity dock and the bar desapeares >>what can i do
how to add launchers on the "dock". Anyone knows how to do it? Drag and drop does not work yet. I hope they'll make an auto-hide feature for the "dock" to save space on the screen
Although it would resemble the Unity desktop that some of us here may have run away from, is it possible to set the left-hand-side dock to remain on screen, possibly only sliding off when a program window needs it to?
Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher? What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
I'm looking for a way to get a Mac OS X style dock on Xubuntu, I tried cairo and it was ok but I just got a black border around the dock which was annoying. And I tried looking up how to fix it and most places recommend turning on compositing which I had already had on in xfce. I'm not necessarily looking for animated stuff, just an icon based dock like that.
i accidentally clicked on Cairo-dock and another just popped up behind and i want to remove it so i can only have one. im using ubuntu 10.4 and I see 2 docks.
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 11 and for those of you users out there who did the same, is there anyway to disable that annoying vertical dock on the left side? Docky is much better and im using that but again would like to disable the ubuntu one.
i just upgraded to ubuntu 11.04. I went into my setting and and accidentally clicked the wrong thing. Now the dock on the left hand side and the bar on top are gone and I can't figure out how to get them back. Trouble is, I can't even open anything now. Is there anyway I can restore it?
I had this problem before and figured out that when I drag an item from a software and it activates the dock by touching the left side of the screen the dock wouldn't hide until I close the software that I dragged the item from. Now it is just happening with no explanation! Dock doesn't retreat at all!!!! I have to restart my computer every time it happens...
Come on Ubuntu developers, you guys shouldn't have release a version like that! Now is too late, I have upgraded my system from the 10.10 and just can't get it back without formatting. The "Ubuntu Classic" is also messed up, lots of features doesn't work properly as they used to do in 10.10. I am not aware of the reason which why gnome is gone and now we have this unity. In my opinion it is WAY WORST than gnome (and gnome wasn't that good)...
OS: Ubuntu Minimal ( OpenSSH, Samba )For some reason my Blacx Duet sata dock is not getting recognized and I am not sure what I am missing but it seems to work when I connect it to a full ubuntu install that is in a VM.Anyone know if something needs to be installed for it to work properly... regular flash drives work perfectly fine.
I have recently installed Ubuntu to my USB and think it is brilliant how you can save changes and even install software! However I really want to install the Avant Window Navigator but it says that it is not available in the current data. I tried sudo apt-get update but it still doesn't work! Is there a way round this as I can install other software?
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with Cairo-Dock and having a problem with the GMenu add on. I have GMenu set to show the application Icons, but that feature does not work. GMenu is coming up with a list of my applications without the Icons. Any suggestion on how to fix that?
In cairo-dock when I hover over the 'shortcuts' applet it shows me what's in my 'places' menu, but I have to click twice on any object to open it, and then it opens two instances of whatever I opened. As in I click once, could wait up to an hour probably, then click again and finally it opens up but twice.
I think all I have to do is disable gnome-panel somehow, but I wanted to check here first, so I don't screw up my computer. As it is, I have the dock working great. However, I can't just turn off the panel, which I currently have at the top of the screen.
My RhythmBox was on my Cario Dock and then all of a sudden its not allowing me to control it from the dock anymore. Like I use to be able to scroll down on it and it would go to next song.
Anyway to get it back on the dock and be able to use those gestures again?
I've been having problems with Cairo dock always showing below other windows. I have tried launching it with cairo-dock --keep-above and cairo-dock -a but to I have had no success. Even editing the settings from the configure to be "always on top" does not work.It was working before where it would appear above when I put the cursor at the bottom of the screen, but it isn't anymore, for whatever reason.
I used to be able to see the labels above the icons in the dock when I hover over them. For some reason I can't see them now. I think I may have turned something off in the Cairo Dock settings and can't remember where to implement this functionality again.
I have few issues, in vista I used a dock called Rocket dock, I could load my favourite websites from the dock. How can I do this in Ubuntu?
Few other minor things..
a radio widget/gadget that works ?
my bank website only works correctly via IE, ive tried ies4linux but it says it only works on latest version of WINE 0.9.x even tho I have newer version installed..
Just installed 10.10 Netbook Edition and Banshee, when I right-click Banshee in the dock after launching it, the menu does not give an option to keep it in there. It only shows the program name (listed as: "banshee-1") and "Quit"
