View 3 RepliesI am brand new to Ubuntu (1 day). I can find my way round most things but I can't print to my Canon Pixma. I have tried to download Australian drivers from a 2007 thread but when I try to download I get the error message "wrong architecture i386". My computer uses an AMD Athlon IIx3 processor. When I say can't print, the file goes into a print queue but the printer does not respond at all. I can see the printer when I go into system, admin, printing.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThere is not a driver for the Canon Pixma ip1800 Printer in Ubuntu. How do I go about getting this printer to work with Ubuntu 10.10.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have found several people who have had problems with Canon all-in-one laser printers. I had huge problems when I first set mine up because it wasn't in Synaptic yet. There are threads on the forum addressing specific printers, but since the driver wasn't officially supported for very long I think lots of folks have given up the fight. My thought is that anyone who successfully installed a Canon laser should be able to post to this thread, and/or a link to threads on this or other forums which they found helpful in getting it to work.
The driver as it is shown in Ubuntu 10.10 is cndrvcups-ufr2-uk, and cndrvcups-common. I have a Canon ImageClass MF8050CN color networked laser which works perfectly with this driver. It supports the networking, although it takes a couple minutes to populate the list of printers when you're setting up. I have not tried the USB port since I have no use for that type of configuration. I have not tried scanning to the computer, only to the USB stick, which works fine.
I have an ubuntu workstation 8.10 and wanted to know if I could monitor Canon printer queues , (see jobs, start/stop queues) etc. Similar to what my xp workstation does with the canon fiery sw.

The Hardware:
Mac Mini late 2009 running 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard/OS X)
Dell Dimension 2400 running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx
HP Photosmart C4680 multifunction printer/scanner/copier
Canon PIXMA MX310 multifunction printer/scanner/copier/fax
Netgear Wireles-N 150 router model WNR 1000v2

As the HP Photosmart printer is currently connected, it is visible over the network by the macintosh however will not print (all jobs appear in the macintosh's queue without a "hold" designation, printer not on pause. pause/resume only changes the tag on the printer but does nothing to cause the queue to begin printing). Although I can navigate within the printer setup to the existing printer on the network, I cannot connect the printer on the mac without finding a new "printer" instance on the Ubuntu machine when I get there. The printer instance which works is the one the Ubuntu machine created, and the printer instance which does not work is the one generated by the mac, which doesn't work either from the mac or when printed to from the Ubuntu machine, now that this instance exists there.
With the printer connected to the mac, it is visible over the network to the ubuntu box however asks for authentication for the print queue and will not accept any password established for either machine. It also does not specify what account name the password should match with so is an utter quandary.
lastly, I did run dmesg but the result was too large for my terminal's log and scrolling back through it I did not find a section relevant to the HP (or Canon) printer to post here.
Using Squeeze and a Canon Pixma IP4600 Printer. The color on the printed pages used to be true and now it isn't, it still print is color just not the correct colors.I am color deficient or color challenged (what used to be called color blind) which dosen't mean I can't tell the difference between what is on the screen and what is printed It's not the printer as I have tested it with other Linux and a windows system and it's good.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Fedora 12. I am connected by Wi-Fi to a large network with dozens of printers (the network is running CUPS). How can I set up my fedora box to "see" those printers so that "print..." file menu option works? Also, I know the address of the CUPS server; when I go to System->Administration->Printing and I go to Server->Connect I can connect successfully and I can see all the many printers on the network. But I haven't figured out how to print from my favourite programs yet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedStrangest thing happened today. I tried to print a simple text document from Kwrite and noticed it would not print. I tried it again selecting a different printer. No result. I tried copying the contents and pasting into Libre Office, then print...no printers to select...Odd. I decided to check on cupsd status from CLI. It was up. Here's where things get stranger. I open CUPS web manager and select printers...'No printers found' Okay, that's odd since I should have about 12, and they are showing up in Kwrite but not in LibreOffice nor CUPS manager.
Assuming Kwrite used some sort of cache I decided to check out /etc/cups/printers.conf....Hmmm zero byte file with but in the same directory a file printers.conf.O dated about 7 days ago. So I did an /etc/init.d/cups stop, did a cat printers.conf.O > printers.conf and /et c/init.d/cups start...all is back to normal. WTH?! What waxed all of my printers?
I was trying to add a virtual PDF printer and show I installed cups-pdf. Supposedly it is supposed to list the virtual pdf printer in the System->Administration->Printing dialog when I choose Add printer. But it does not do that. All it shows is the remote printers on my file server. So, opened up a web browser and when to localhost:631 and used the cups interface to add a virtual pdf printer, but still it does not show up in the printing dialog.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently replaced an older server with a new Intel Xeon quad-core processor. The old machine was running FC6, the new machine is running FC11 64Bit. The problem that I am having is that printing to networked printers prints 2-3 pages, then waits 8-10 seconds and then prints 2-3 more pages. This repeats until the printout is completed. My first thought is that FC11 (or somewhere between FC6 and FC11) introduced some way to limit activity to devices? The confusing thing to me is that I went from a single CPU to a quad core machine, increased the memory from 1Gb to 3Gb, moved from a 32 bit machine to a 64 bit machine and I am running the same applications... they just run slower now...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have recently lost the use of my schools printers (schools out of session), and found myself in need of printing a document. I have a Canon Pixima ip1700, but I can only find software for a wide variety of Windows OS and a Mac. Unfortunately for this situation, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I've searched through the Software Center, and found an assortment of printer related software, but I don't know how to use any of it to allow my computer to print this single, lonely page.nDoes anyone have any advice as to how to connect a computer to a printer? Beyond putting the long cord into the USB thingy, that is, and preferably without using TurboPrint, or any other software that leaves a banner?
View 1 Replies View RelatedBeen using ubnutu gnome for a loooong time and my printer (Canon MX340) has been running just fine, configuration and usage.
I now switch to kde. configure my printer the same way i would under gnome and as soon as i send a job, it processes for about 3 seconds and just marks "stopped" under status. nothing goes through anymore!!
i've updated from 4.5 to 4.6 with backports and nothing is happening on there either.
im running maverick amd64 and using the i386 drivers (with dpkg -i --force-all) which are still recognized even under kde.
p.s.: the printer normally runs as wireless standalone (no samba/cups involvment whatsoever)
I found instructions on how to install the drivers for my Canon MP560 to get the printer working when connected with the USB cord. But I still can't seem to use the scanner or print wirelessly to the printer. Not really sure where to start.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to print from a Canon MX 330 All-in-One printer in Ubuntu 9.04? I'm trying to print through a Linksys WRT54G router. How to printing with double-sided print
In case of usling each driver...
I want to select 3 option double-sided,layout 2up,color(grayscale)
Configuring at cups web page [url]
"Inkjet Print Filter Ver.2.70" and "3.0" is as same as "Ver 2.60" In case of using each canon drivers, can't select color option window. And there is no color option on cups page, and system-config-printer. I thought any canon official driver may be no able to apply double-sided option.
I've been using Kubuntu 9.10 for several months now. For most of that time, I configured and used with no problem several network printers.. a HP LaserJet 3015 at home connected to a Windows machine, and a Xerox Phaser 8560 at my coworking space connected directly to a router.
However, several weeks ago I was at the coworking space, requested a print from my web browser, and in the printer selection dialog, observed the list of printers expanding... some sort of autodetection of network printers was occuring, and multiple instances of the same printer were being offered, with slightly different names. Printing to these devices did not work.
Now, after a reboot, there are NO network printers available no matter what network I'm connected to. When I use the Kubuntu printer configuration tool and try to set up a new printer, it asks me to "Select a connection" to which the only option it gives me is "Other". When I put in an address for the printer it just cycles endlessly, never finding anything.
I have a shared printer on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine, and it cannot be seen by other computers (macbook, pc) on the network. I have the printer shared, but it is not a member of the 'Shared Printers' group. When I add it to the 'Shared Printers' group, it stays there until I close the 'Printing' application GUI. Then, when I re-open 'Printing,' it is no longer in that group. I think this is why I can't see it on the network, due to the wording of the option in Server Settings to 'Publish shared printers connected to this system.'
View 3 Replies View RelatedI haven't heard of anyone doing this and I am wondering why not. I have an equipment closet. Where I have a home server, network gear, directv box, dvd player, stereo system(yet to come). I have only heard of people putting fans in such closets and wondering why not a portable air conditioner? I am thinking I want a
SOLEUS AIR PE6-10R-03 Portable Air Conditioner from new egg for about $315
It claims 45db 256 CFM and 2 pints/hour dehumidifer. That sounds perfect to me for a media closet but am wondering why I don't see others using a portable air conditioner for a media closet? They had a cheaper unit but it doesn't claim to have a fan which I think circulation is a must for a media closet. There is even a drain that is on the other side of the wall that I can run the drain pipe to. All I need to do is run a exhaust duct through the attic and to an exhaust that I can put in my roof overhang.
XEN-server will be with 2 virtual OS:
dom1 - opensuse11.3 (x86) as LTSP server+squid+postfix+OpenOffice+FF
dom2 - opensuse11.3(x86) as WINE server for running windows application
Which type I/O prefer? Server for XEN use x64 or X86? about WS (without HD. will be use LTSP)?
I apologize because I know this is really a worn out question, but I have a reason for asking. My wife gave me this laptop in December 2003 as a Christmas gift. At the time it was state of the art and she spent over ?1100 on it. It is a Samsung V25, P4 2.8Ghz 1GB memory 40GB HD. It still has the original XP home OS on it, and when I got a new laptop a couple of years ago, I let her have it to use because she refuses to use Linux and she did not have a laptop. Well, she stopped using it when she got netbook and it has been jut lying around. After so many years of use, as you might expect Windows now just crawls with so much crap on it and is very unpredictable (might work might not.)
My thought is that she might start using it again (and I certainly would), if I could show her that there is still plenty of life left in it. I KNOW that Slack will be faster, but before I wipe the drive (she is still kind of sentimental about me doing that), and I want to see if I can get a couple of comments about the hardware and what trouble I might expect. I ask because I have tried dozens of live CDS, and some work and some don't. For example, the newest Knoppix would not run (freezes when it tries to start X.) Anyway, the specs are
Display: Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PL
Sound: Crystal WDM AC'97 ICH4
This thing has most of the goodies that loaded laptops offered in those days (i.e. 1394 port). I am most concerned about the display because I have read about others who have had difficulty with Intel graphics. It is my intention to -Current on it, since it runs great on my main laptop. So if someone could just offer a little bit of their experience with similar old equipment
I'm searching for a software that save command entered into switches, routers, etc....
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to centralize users and passwords and also create controls for user access to some equipment, for example, Linux Servers, Switches, routers and firewalls. In case of failure of the link between the ACS and AD or equipment to the ACS, this device would use local username and password.
At the moment, my AD structure is a Microsoft, Cisco ACS servers and Linux Standalone. I wish that both linuxs servers and network equipment were authorized by Cisco ACS on the accounts that are in Microsoft AD.
The configuration of the Cisco ACS to use the AD is done and no problems, the network equipment is OK too, but am having difficulties configuring the server for this solution.
I expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.
We developed qt based application in linux. I wish to stop ejecting the paper after printing over. How to do it.
