Ubuntu :: Cannot Log In To Gmail And Banking Site?
Aug 2, 2010
I have trouble logging in to some pages: gmail and www.alpha.gr. After entering username & password the browser is continuously loading but there is no network activity and the page won't load.I am running 64bit Lucid and have this problem with the latest versions Firefox, Chromium and Opera. There is no problem with Windows XP installed on the same machine. This is not the solution I want to follow however
I'm new to Linux(Ubuntu 11.4), just installed it two weeks ago. I've been a member of Linuxquestion for about 2 or 3 years mostly lurking.I have building/buying computers for 30 years, first DOS,Windows 3.1, then Windows 95 through all to Win7.My question is for security of online banking and other financial things. Everything.I've been reading on here indicates that no Antivirous/Malware is needed. Being new to Linux, I can't tell if ClamAV is working or if is even needed.I had thought about doing banking on my wife's machine(Windows only) rebooting to a Ubuntu LiveCD. Does this sound like a more secure idea? Our two other machines are both dual boot with Ubuntu alongside of Windows XP & Windows 7.
With the ever increasing threat of financially aimed malware on Windows machines(think Zeus here), I'd like to create a distro of Linux that boots from a USB thumb drive and opens directly to a web browser. I'd like this distro or config not to be writable and its only purpose being to make financial transactions via a web browser. All other services or applications would need to be stopped or locked down.I've seen some threads on here from a few years back and wanted to know if there is anything new out there that can assist with this.
use any browser and go to gmail. i can't get gmail to load. if i browse on videos, links to videos don't work. they appear to be taking a long time to buffer, then a message appears saying to try again. sometimes, links on google search pages are all dead. yahoo mail loads as far as logging me in, then i get a page with all dead links.
i'm using a laptop at several locations that have free public wifi. at some places, everything works perfectly normally. at other places, google and yahoo are almost useless. the "bad" places work just fine under ms windows.
so i figure it's a networking/handshaking issue, but that's all i can figure. i need help to troubleshoot it further. if it's happening to me, it has to be happening to other people, and i consider it a major hassle.
My college internet providers shifted to a different setting.. defined in the changing lan proxy settings on the user end. I.e.ip - 192.168.0.200 and port to 3000. This to reduce misuse of the net connection ..The thing is, since then, every other website is working, except GMail. It isnt blocked, the Nebero page shows up for blocked sites. When attempting to open gmail, the default internet page shows up for unavailability of page owing to no or slow response from the server, or the firewall or proxy settings not appropriately configured. I cannot open gmail, the connection on empathy im. I cant ping gmail either. No response. What can be the problem.
I have to ubuntu machine (9.10 and 10.4) with a openvpn tunnel between them. This is the situation:
Code: NetworkA 192.168.0.0/24 | UbuntuA br0:192.168.0.3 (openvpn bridge between eth0 and tap0)[code].....
UbuntuA has one only interface etho and there are two openvpn instance: one bridge istance with br0 and another instance with tun0. UbuntuA is not the gateway for networkA. UbuntuB is the gateway for NetworkB.I need to comunicate between pc on networkB e those on networkA.This is the "ping situation" (no pc tested has an active firewall):
ubuntuA vs ubuntuB: OK ubuntuB vs ubuntuA: OK pc on NetworkA vs ubuntuA and ubuntuB: OK[code].....
My issue is that i'm trying to send emails with postfix and gmail as the mail relay,i'm trying to send emails to my self by sendmail -bv user@gmail.com
In the logs, i can understand that it been delivered to the destination, taken from: /var/log/mail.log: Apr 30 00:05:23 moni postfix/pickup[10490]: 9C7552170C: uid=0 from=<root> Apr 30 00:05:23 moni postfix/cleanup[10495]: 9C7552170C: message-id=<20110429210523.9C7552170C@moni.localdomain> Apr 30 00:05:23 moni postfix/qmgr[10491]: 9C7552170C: from=<root@moni.localdomain>, size=283, nrcpt=1 (queue active) code....
When login in my gmail account i can't see nothing under the sent / inbox / spam folder.
it's seems like the mail are been sent.. but nothing is happening.
I've been on a quest to enable full routing through my openvpn tunnel between my office and the colo. Masquerading will work, however it will throw off anything key based and makes a lot of things just more difficult and vague in general. Is there an easy way to do this via iptables? I tried using quagga hoping it would magically solve my problems, however it does not seem to do my routing for me . I just did a basic static route within zebra...
I have been trying to configure the mailcheck in gkrellm to check and notify for new mail on my gmail account. I have activated pop of course...
These are the pop info taken from gmail:
Quote:
Server for incoming mail (IMAP) - needs SSL: imap.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 993 Server outgoing mail (SMTP) - needs TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use verification) Use verifiering: Yes Use STARTTLS: Yes(some clients call this SSL) Port: 465 or 587
I have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.
For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?
In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?
I have two partitions on my laptop. One which I only use for shopping and logging into bank website which has xubuntu 8.04/firefox 3.0.x and another partition which has ubuntu 9.10/firefox 3.5.6 which I use for programming and mucking about with networking.
I decided for extra security and because I would create a google mail account for my ubuntu 9.10. I created the google mail account in the xubuntu 8.04 partition with no problems logging into the google webiste.
I then booted into the ubuntu 9.10 partition and set up evolution to receive emails from my google mail account. I have sent and receive emails. When I tried to log into the google mail account to amend settings, after a while it comes up with a connection error.
* I don't have skype plugin
* I emptied cache and removed cookies
* I deleted firefox profile in $HOME/.mozilla
* Disabled all add-ons (I only have noscript, imglikeopera, adlock plus and the ubuntu firefox extensions)
* I tried the gmail manager extension
I installed epiphany web-browser and still was unable to log in to gmail.
Although I can log into my 8.04 parition to access gmail from the web, I would prefer to be able to do this via my 9.10.
I've spent ages trying to get evolution & Gmail to talk to each other. Whenever I press Send/receive it tries then I get 'Error while Scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.gmail.com" '. I've tried changing the ports etc, deleting the account from evolution and redoing it. I've looked thru various forums and walkthroughs. I've checked that the right password is stored in the keyring. I'm sure all my settings are right, but evolution can neither sync with my inbox nor send emails.
I have synced my google contacts and calendar with evolution, however. I use my Gmail on a variety of devices so I don't want to use POP and in any case SMTP isn't working either. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 on an acer 5738 thru a not particularly fast ADSL connection.
It's been two weeks now since I can't have my inbox checked on Docky's Gmail applet, and its a drag because I need an integrated mail notification and Docky is perfect.
So, here are the facts:
- have tried it on both 10.04 i386 and 10.10 amd64, identical problem
- after new installation works on till the first reboot, then stops. You see just the icon and when clickin "refresh" there's no "turning circle thingy inside the icon" which tells you it's refreshing. (and there's mail in the inbox).
- I haven't managed to find the docky configuration file, only something in the cache and configuration directory in home. Where is the real configuration file for Docky?
I run a 6.06.2 Dapper server for a not-for-profit, and have had a very simple email set-up working for a couple of years. Users have their email address set up on the server, and use a gmail account as webmail access/storage. Emails are downloaded via POP to users gmail accounts, and are sent out from gmail via SMTP to the server. Like I said, this has worked fine for ages, but in the last couple of days its all gone wrong. The SMTP log I get for an email I tried to send from gmail is as follows:
I've a chat tab at the left most side of my g-mail.I've the list of ids.I want to remove some of my contacts from there. How can I do that? how do that chat tab come from.I forget, can you tell me what are the settings for that chat tab?
I've seen a bunch of other posts on this topic but they haven't solved my problem. I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04. Love it so far. Except, I can't figure out how to setup my gmail account in Evolution so that I can see the emails on the server or download them locally. I had it working before both in 8.04 LTS and a flash drive install of UNR 9.10. I really can't figure out why it is so difficult this time.Gmail settings are/were already on IMAP - checked while logged in through browser. In Evolution, I've tried changing the account name, user name (for receiving mail), etc. and different combos of same settings. The receiving mail settings I'm using for IMAP authentication are password and save password. Security is set to SSL.Evolution tries to access the server but never asks for a password. Likely, because something is wrong with my settings. I just don't know what.
Is there a way to set empathy check for gmail mails? I use a google talk account and it makes sense to me, that, if I am already logged into gmail, check the mail as well. Pidgin and gtalk have this option, but I can't find it in empathy. I know there are plenty of gmail notification apps, but I just don't see the point of having to install another app that logs into the same account to check the mails...
I prefer GMail web interface than any other desktop client. Out of the box you cant select GMail web interface as default mail client in GNOME on Ubuntu. But you can get it done with gnome-gmail application. Continue reading here on how-to: [URL]
Option to play sound is checked (same option in gconf-editor is checked too). But there is no sound on new emails.Default notification file (notify.wav) is playing OK with other software.I even try to edit source code (python) of cGmail to disable check of option in gconf-editor. But still no sound.
Has anyone gotten evolution to work with gmail imap? Mine says it is connecting but it never downloads any messages nor does it give any errors. I'd sure like to make it work.
For more than a week now, and Gmail is not opening. I was using Chromium, then tried Epiphany, Google chrome, even Midori; but it only opens with Firefox!! Am I the only one?
I installed the gnome-gmail-notifier today and I noticed that it wasn't translated. Anyone who knows where to ask for a Swedish translation or how to contribute with one? It's a small application so I figure that it won't be much work to translate it. Not that I need to, but I like to have everything in the same language if possible.
