I prefer GMail web interface than any other desktop client. Out of the box you cant select GMail web interface as default mail client in GNOME on Ubuntu. But you can get it done with gnome-gmail application. Continue reading here on how-to: [URL]
I have the 11.4 Gnome Distribution.everything is setup except my email sending.I have never been able to setup evolution correctly with gmail.I have followed the gmail settings of setting the smtp server to be smtp. gmail. com:465 and folowed the instructions here Evolution/FAQ - GNOME Live!to setup smtp.gmail.com with no port change.if there is no port specified the sending message window doesn't report an error it just hangs.
Ok, so I've done a clean install of 10.04 over 9.1 and despite a couple of issues am very impressed. The thing that's currently bugging me most is that I can't set the chat/mail/broadcast panel menu thing to use thunderbird for mail. Is there any way to do this, or do I need to have thunderbird as a separate icon?
What is the default cmdline (!) mail client in Ubuntu?
Normally I use Thunderbird as GUI. But occasionally I get to Ubuntu systems where TB is not installed and cannot be installed but I need quick access to mail client through a commandline based simple mail client.
I am developing a application in which i have to show the name of default browser and mail client. i want to run this application on RedHat, SuSE, Mandriva, and Ubuntu. I have checked similar threads but not found any useful information.
My issue is that i'm trying to send emails with postfix and gmail as the mail relay,i'm trying to send emails to my self by sendmail -bv user@gmail.com

When login in my gmail account i can't see nothing under the sent / inbox / spam folder.
it's seems like the mail are been sent.. but nothing is happening.
I have been trying to configure the mailcheck in gkrellm to check and notify for new mail on my gmail account. I have activated pop of course...
These are the pop info taken from gmail:
Quote:
Server for incoming mail (IMAP) - needs SSL: imap.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 993 Server outgoing mail (SMTP) - needs TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use verification) Use verifiering: Yes Use STARTTLS: Yes(some clients call this SSL) Port: 465 or 587
I do not know where the problem occurs, but when sending mail through FCI mail () on the Gmail e-mail fails to deliver. The logo is not a bug and should be on the list, center, walks etc mails totally normal, but gmail does not pass anything. Nothing in the spam ... I tried to create a new mail to Gmail and send the message, and nothing may be ...
You have no idea where it could be a potential bug? from webmail to send mail to gmail is realized, but through the mail () not ... I thought that the problem is in a blacklist from Google, but a week ago, we changed the IP server (migration) and the problem still persists ..
I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports? When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail. Here's the error in mail.log.
I want to send mails via gmail with php. I need to know how to configure main.cf, php.ini, postfix,smtp... and all what is necessary. I tried a lot but no results.
I just bought a domain, let's say it's called example.com
I also have a gmail account, let's say it's: my.account@gmail.com
I want all email to master@example.com to forward to my.account@gmail.com, and likewise I want all e-mail from my.account@gmail.com to be from master@example.com, and have the reply-to also be master@example.com.
I guess the most pressing issue here is setting up some proxy to forward all my @example.com emails to my gmail. I've been looking through the forums and reading some tutorials, but none of them seem to do exactly what I'm looking for.
I need help in setting up the native e-mail client included in Debian Squeeze. My ultimate goal is to have the Debian e-mail client download e-mail messages and process attachments automatically.
i have redhat linux 5 (2.6.18-53.el5) and i am trying to install davmail as mail client for MS exchange mail system. i am trying to install davmail latest i.e 3.6.6-1032 x86 version. i installed java 1.6. and excuted java -version. it showed me correct version. i.e java 1.6. but when i ran ./davmail.sh it gave me following message it opened port 389 and the next message was DEBUG (checkrelease) davmail: unable to get released version what could be the problem
I'm on a fresh Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 install and I'm trying to configure Evolution to grab my email from Gmail using IMAP.
For receiving mail my server is set to imap.gmail.com:993 and my user name is ___@gmail.com
I'm using SSL and the authentication type is "Password"
If I click the "Check for supported types button, the "Please wait. Querying server for a list of supported authentication mechanisms." window pops up, but it never finishes.
When I try to sync my mail, evolution doesn't ask for my password, and the send and receive mail window displays my account as "Scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.gmail.com" indefinitely.
Running Evolution from the terminal doesn't seem to print any IMAP related errors only
so far 10.04 is great.. coming over from Fedora.. liking what I see... however, question..
Is there any way to get the default mail icon in the top right corner to notify of new mail in gmail? I found an app that does it, gmail notifier or something.. but seems redundant to have 2 mail icons when 1 would do the job.. but not sure how I'd configure it. I see that I can set up evolution but.. I've got tens of thousands of messages on gmail, and it would take wayyy too long to download.. I'd rather it just notify me of new mail and open a browser to gmail when I click it or something like that. So, any way of doing this?
I'd like to configure Evolution (or Thunderbird) to delete Gmail messages. When I select messages and hit "Delete", the messages go to my local trash and they loose their Inbox label in Gmail. I would like that in Gmail, they loose their Inbox label and go to [Gmail]/Trash so that they'll be deleted after a month. Could I configure the "delete" key of my keyboard to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ? Could I configure another key to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ?
What other solution ? Because moving to the trash is not convenient, it takes a lot of time without a key shortcut.
I have a lot of emails on hotmail and gmail that I want to store in text or html files on my local Fedora computer for future reference. Is there a way I can download them to my hard drive without doing it one email at a time with the browser's Save Page As feature or some such thing? There has to (?) be a better way.
Every mail program should have an easy-to-use 'mass' export-to-text-file feature so that people are not held hostage to a particular email service or program. The lack of such a feature in email programs I've used is one of my pet peeves. It seems rather tyrannical and abusive. (Now before someone tells me it's a free service, please remember all the advertisements I have to go through to use the service). I do not have an email account through an ISP. I live with my landlord who deals with the ISP. I only use hotmail and gmail (and, rarely, yahoo).
I am running Fedora Core 8 as my mail and proxy server. My mail works properly for all users, but the problem I'm having is that when I create an alias for user's email to be forwarded to their gmail, the ISP bounces the mail. My ISP has given me an open relay to send mail.Is there somewhere in sendmail that I could put the user name and password of the ISP, so that the ISP will not bounce the forwarded mail. Or is there something that I'm missing?
I just dl'd Thunderbird and its working fine with my Hotmail account however I'm having some problems with my Gmail account. I can send emails thru gmail just fine but when I click get mail, the error message: Unable to locate mail spool file pops up. The server settings for this account are Server Type: Unix Movemail Server Name: Local Host Username: (my gmail email - @gmail.com) I think this is all set up right, it did it automatically for me.
I've running my mails from 3 domains on Google Apps for several time, but I think it's time to set up my own Mail-Server now. I have a vServer and want to migrate my existing mails after setting it up. Now I have 2 questions.
1. Which components do I need / do you prefer for a mail-server(imap, smpt, webinterface)? 2. How do I get all my existing Mails in there?
I am running debian testing, amd64 architecture on my box. I have 3 gmail accounts that I use regularly. I have used mainly thunderbird/icedove to access my mailboxes via imap. However, now two of them have really several tens of thousands of emails I often experience difficulties in dealing with them (the connection often freezes, browsing my folders is a pain).I tried also sylpheed and claws, but the situation has not really improved.I do not think there is anything fundamentally wrong in the way I configured my accounts on the various clients (actually, some of them even boast automatic setup of gmail accounts).
can any one please tell me that how to send mail from localhost to gmail or yahoo or some other server,i think it is some mail relay server problem but dont know how to get over it.i am using fedora 13.and i had setup dovecot, sendmail and squirrelmail properly.and configured them. i have no problem to send mail from my local host to me back.my squirrel mail and mutt works fine.bt only problem is that they cant send any mail on other servers.
I have a couple of servers that are scripted to send cron script output logs to my email address (a Gmail address). Mailx is what I am using, but I didn't have to configure anything; I installed it, and it just worked with the following command: mailx -s "SUBJECT" -r FROMMYADDRESS TOMYADDRESS < FILETOCATANDSEND
This occurs every Saturday and Sunday at noon after my backup scripts run. I noticed yesterday that I did not receive these logs, so I logged into the machine, started 'mail' and saw messages like this: This is the mail system at host media.deagle.lan.
I'm using Google Chrome & Arch Linux x86.When I try to log in to my Gmail to check my Email I get this;Quote:The webpage at "A very long URL" might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.And when I click on 'more information about this error' I get this;
Code: Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): Unknown error. I've updated openssl and have both SSL 2.0 and 3.0 enabled in options and I still can't log in
I am trying to configure sendmail to use GMail to send emails. I followed the instructions at[URL]lay-howto.html but it failed. After I was done with these instructions, I think I "cooked" sendmail... Can no longer configure it and it seems that I will have to start from scratch again...How to get sendmail to send emails using Gmail's SMTP server?
