I don't want to re-install, mine is Ubuntu Ultimate 2.8, the update manager is running well, whenever I log in, it will prompt me to update. However, I find no way to upgrade it from 2.8 to 2.9 the latest version, if u know how to do it, can u teach me?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and burned UBCD-5.03.iso When I boot from it I don't get the expected UBCD memu, I get a Debian Install menu instead, all selections of which takes one down a path which leads to modifying the partition table. At which point I abandon it. The rescue option doesn't do the job either. It simply brings up a debian shell.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble dual booting Windows 7 Ultimate and Fedora 14. I am using Grub 0.97 (The grub before Grub 2). I installed Windows 7 after installing Fedora 14 so the damn Windows BL covered up Grub. But I can't get into either Windows or Fedora. I get an Error 17: Cannot Mount Selected Partition. And the system can't find the BL for Windows so it always tells me to restart. And I have both OS' on the same hard disk.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm currently trying to add OpenSUSE to my Laptop which already has Vista Ultimate installed, hoping I will end up with a dual boot system. Currently, my HD is divided into four partition: Vista Ultimate with Bitlocker enabled needs two partitions - one for the unencrypted boot files, and one for the rest of the system. Then I have an unencrypted partition for data that I don't want encrypted, and finally the partition in which I plan to install Linux.
I have already installed OpenSUSE to that fourth partition, and it worked just fine. But now, I'd like to reinstall with LVM, so that I can use encryption as well. Upon installation, however, I get the following error: Code: Error Failure occurred during following action: Creating volume group system fromv System error code was: -4004 I'm wondering if this is because I'm running out of (primary?) partitions? Seems like LVM, just like Vista Ultimate, needs two partitions, one for the boot files and one for the rest of the system. I've read something about a PC drive only being able to hold four partitions, so I'm wondering if I need to get rid of that extra unencrypted partition I have in order to get OpenSUSE with LVM installed. Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
I use a dual core ASUS desktop with Nvidia built in, the video card. I have 500 Gigabytes memory and the video card has 512 Megabytes. 3 Gigabytes of RAM.
I installed a Ultimate Edition Gamers released back in June 2010. I opted for the use of Compiz, and opted for Nvidia drivers from Nvidia, not the ones devised in Linux. Once I did this I got compiiz going, but with less choice of screen resolution, so it is all slightly too big. Blocky, How can I get the finer screen resolution back?
At the time of the install I had to change the resolution, that was good. Also when I installed the Nvidia drivers and compiz, the cursor changed from a spear head to an arrow.
I have the windows 7 installed and I want to install the Ubuntu . Has anyone done that and does it work?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI replaced the old WIFI card (Intel PRO 3945ABG) in my Dell D620 with the new Intel Ultimate-N 6300.
According to intel's website the driver is integrated in the current kernel (mine is 2.6.34.7 61.fc13.i686.PAE) and I have the latest firmware installed as well (iwl6000-firmware-9.221.4.1 1.fc13.noarch) however it does not work.
I tested the card with Windows XP and it works perfect.

So it detect the card for some reason does not assign it a driver!
And i googled this "Unsupported (too old) EEPROM" and found some results related to Ubuntu but were not useful.
So am I missing something? what does that message mean "Unsupported (too old) EEPROM"?
I Installed Jumblo (a voip program) through wine but it is unable to connect to internet. I don't know if it is blocked by firewall or not.

Pendrivelinux has a really awesome utility, one that I have been searching to find for many years. It allows you to put multiple ISOs onto a single USB and selectively boot the images. Mast are live Linux OSs, or repair disks, there is even an option for a Windows install disk. The "menu" is configured for about 30 ISOs right now, and I believe it uses a Grub loader. The link below will take you to the wbsite that hosts the utility download link, lists all the currently supported ISOs, and has the very simple instructions.

Once you download the app. there is a file called "menu" that you can edit the list of installed images on the USB drive. I have put:
4-5 Live Linux ISOs
Windows 7 Install files
4-5 rescue CDs
on my USB stick. I deleted the menu items I do not use (a lot of them), and reorganized the menu to my liking.
I know NOTHING about how to figure out the Linux code language. I want to add the following ISO images to the USB, but I am unable to figure out how to write their use into the menu.
Hirens boot CD
Windows XP repair disk
Acronis True Image 2010 recovery disk
I have tried altering already made menus with no success, and I dont even know where to begin. If some of you might be willing to DL the utility, look at the menu structure, I would be very appreciative. I know that you will probably need the ISO images, but they are fairly common. While I am very new here, I am very familiar with forums in general, and would be happy to make a donation for the help, like I said, I have dreamed of such a multiboot solution for many years, and would love to see these added to the options, making it a truly ultimate bootable USB.
I am using fc14 i686, and I am having a problem with my wireless card. Even though the led of the wireless card lights up the network manager claims that the wireless is disabled. Ive installed Ubuntu recently but none of my attempts to get the wifi network working were successfull. It establishes connection but the indicator shows no signal and I cant connect to any website, I tried pinging external IPs etc. None of these worked. lspci -nn | grep 'Wireless Brand'Does not show anything.
