I am using fc14 i686, and I am having a problem with my wireless card. Even though the led of the wireless card lights up the network manager claims that the wireless is disabled. I don't understand what is going wrong.I am a newbie trying to be sth better bur for the time being my only help could be the outputs of the lshw, lspci and lsusb commands.

The network Im trying to connect to is hidden, so I have to input SSID manually, I doubt this causes the problem.
I have an IBM ThinkPad W700 running 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. At the office I normally connect it to the Ethernet since it's never connected very reliably to the wifi there (drops out 2 or 3 times per day, usually at the worst possible time, of course), but it always worked just fine with Netgear WGR614v5 at home... until a week or two ago.
I used to be able to come home, take the laptop out of suspend mode, and it would connect to the wifi. Occasionally there'd be some hitch and I'd have to restart the network manager (sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager restart) but this was only sometimes, and when I did, it'd always work. But now, when I get home from work, I need to restart the entire system to get it to connect properly again. Without restarting the whole system, it either doesn't scan for wifi networks, it doesn't find any wifi networks, it keeps stuffing up my wifi password, or it connects and gets 0% signal.
Presumably, some driver was updated recently and it doesn't work so well. What's the easiest way to find out what drivers have been updated lately, and revert to a previous version? And what else can I try restarting so I don't have to restart the entire system? I've tried /etc/init.d/network-manager restart, /etc/init.d/networking restart, /etc/init.d/network-interface restart, and restart network-manager. I've also tried turning the wireless switch at the front of the laptop off and on, many times.

The info above is when I've taken my laptop out of suspend mode and it won't connect to the network. lsmod doesn't say anything about wifi nor wireless; iwlist does see my network, which my older Januty laptop is connected to without drama.
I have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I just installed Fedora 15 yesterday and can't get wi-fi to work. When I click 'on' on the Wireless label, it goes back to 'off' immediately. When I open the Network Settings menu and disable Airplane mode, the Wireless connection goes on and then off immediately. I took a look at /var/log/messages and it shows this:

I just install F13 yesterday, before that I use F12 and it works well with no problem. The biggest and only problem I have with F13 is wifi network. If I turn on wifi switch before OS start, WIFI LED lights and wireless works. Then I try to turn off switch and turn on again, but the LED doesnt light any more, so wireless is also silent. The bad thing is there are many notifications of kernel crash.

I decided to wing it and upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 once I developed odd wireless issues (grrr) where I could only get on wireless if I booted up Ubuntu with my wifi switch DISABLED and then right away enabled it once I was logged in. The funny part is, it distinctly said 10.10 available in update manager. I get it done, power up, System - About Ubuntu - 11.04.

I've checked for any 'firmware' and 'kill' in both boot.msg and hardware information. I've got an ACER Aspire 8935G with WiFi Link 5100 (Intel). There is one more thing that could be related: I've got some touch-buttons to the left of the keyboard that turn wifi and bluetooth on/of. The bluetooth one works, but nothing happens if I press the wifi one.
I also know that this hardware worked on fedora 11 and 12, so it's probably only a matter of settings/additional packages. If you respond, please keep in mind I can't use any internet connection-based commands, as the system doesn't accept the hardware responsible for cable connections either. I can download files if needed.
I'm trying to get my Dell Latitude work with wifi speed >54Mbit/s, and up to now without any success. The router is a Dlink DIR-635, it has 'n' enabled and working (got an apple laptop connecting at 130Mbit/s, can't test the actual throughput though, since it's the only high-speed device).

I'm running 11.4, added the compat-wireless recently to be able to run the newes firmware (iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode , firmware version 8.83.5.1 build 33692), but still all I get is 54Mbit/s. I'd like to know if ANYONE ever got the 802.11n speed on linux, and in particular with these intel cards.

Since I originally started using Ubuntu (10.04) I have had problems with my wireless card. Now I have updated to 10.10 and it has stopped working entirely. I am using a "Dell Vostro 1520" with an "Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN" wireless card.Here are the details: 10.04
In this distribution version, if I had the wireless switch on my laptop activated at startup my wireless card would refuse to activate. There is a light to show when it is activated and this was off, but I checked anyway and wireless capabilities don't work when it is in this state. It didn't even resolve the problem when I switched it off and on again (although this caused the wireless indicator to blink on for less than a second when switched on).This was manageable because I found two workarounds:
1. Wait until my laptop had logged into Ubuntu, then activate the wireless card which would start and work as it should.
2. If I had already logged into Ubuntu I could put my computer on standby, switch off the card, come out of standby and reactivate the card while Ubuntu was running.As I said, this was completely manageable, and I got used to it. 10.10
Now that I have upgraded to 10.10 all workarounds fail, I can't use a wireless connection in Ubuntu, as my card won't activate, I cant even get the light to blink as I could before. The only way I can use WiFi is by switching to Windows.I tend to use Ubuntu for my university programming work.
I moved to Berlin recently and I got wireless internet through an access point. I'm supposed to use the laptop's built-in wireless netcard to access the internet. This usually works in windows (connection falls out from time to time), but I have yet to make it work in linux. I'm using OpenSuse 11.3 64-bit and the Knetwork manager. Most of the settings in the network manager are correct, but it keeps wanting to use system certificates for the server. By that I mean it keeps checking 'Use CA System certificates'.
So I can't choose the CA-certificate supplied by my internet provider. I keep removing the check-mark and pointing it to the 'hotzoneCA.der' certificate. I also got a 'personal' certificate, in lack of a better word. Its called 'jacob_collstrup.p12'. The Knetwork manager seems to accept the 'jacob_collstrup.p12' certificate, but not the other one.
I just put the certificates in a folder like this /jacob/home/hotzone/zertifikate/ I can see the network fine using the Knetwork manager, and the signal strength seems ok. Not too good, but it shouldn't be a problem. I might have messed up the system, since I first tried this guide, prior to experimenting with Knetwork Manager:

I've got a Dell precision with Kubuntu 9.10. Wifi worked fine on that machine for months, but stopped working last week. I don't know what happened, but I recently did an "apt-get dist-upgrade". That might have something to do with it.
When I boot in Windows, wifi works fine.

I'm dual booting windows 7 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.1 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 11z with an embedded WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 series wireless card made from Intel. I only use it for wifi, not 3g or wimax. I installed the latest driver from intellinuxwireless.org, iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1, but it still doesn't seem to work. I ran these terminal commands from another thread:

In the ubuntu help section it tells me to flip a manual wifi switch to enable it, but pressing my windows wifi button, F2, doesn't appear to do anything while in ubuntu. The only experience I have working with linux is typing some terminal commands on my android phone to root it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe wireless on my 64-bit openSUSE-11.2 installed on my Dell Studio 1537 laptop stopped working some time back (possibly more than a one or two months back). I just discovered this last week when on business. I have not used the wireless under openSUSE-11.2 for a while so I am not certain what broke it, but I am suspicious of an update. I note openSUSE-11.3 milestone-7 works great with the wireless (on a liveCD). I note possibly two related threads, although I note no failed request for firmware in my case:request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2] - openSUSE Forums, and I see another thread here: Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums... but I can not tell if what I have is the same problem, so I did not add to those threads. In my case I can scan for the network, and see the SSID. An ip address is assigned. But a ping does not work.

I know the router wireless network is good, because I can connect to the router via wireless with another laptop (old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M with older Intel wireless), and the router wireless also works with this Dell Studio 1537 PC (with same hardware) but with openSUSE-11.3 milestone7 version.
I've reinstalled Slackware 4 times today because of things I've messed up along my way, after upgrading the linux kernel I've had issues with getting back to desktop, so I'm on a clean slate right now with the exception of installing wicd. Of course the easy solution would be to just flick that hardware switch on, however there isn't any hardware button only a indicator light, which is off unfortunately.

I have a Dell E6500 with and Intel 5300 wireless agn card running Lucid x64. Wireless works fine and speeds are great except when I download with either the browser or thru a torrent or even updates. Once I get to around 100 megs in to the file wireless stops working and the only way to get it working again is to disconnect and reconnect to the AP. I have installed the back ports and tried several other fixed to get this to work but nothing has helped. One more note this happens on 2 other wireless routers that I have tried so I know that it's not limited to my Linksys.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two laptops here, a Lenovo T510 and a Lenovo Ideapdad S12, both running Fedora 13 with KDE4. On the T510 wireless worked out of the box and is enabled when I boot it, on the S12 it's not. I have the wl driver installed but every time I boot the laptop wireless is disabled in knetworkmanager. I have to manually enabled it, then wait a few seconds until it establishes a connection to my already configured wireless networks.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Fedora 13 on my Lenovo Ideapad S12 (company laptop, evaluating Fedora for companywide use on all laptops) and a facing a weird problem with KDE4 and NetworkManager / knetworkmanager. The laptops wifi card is a Broadcom BCM4312 and I have successfully extracted the necessary b43 firmware. The b43 module loads on boot and the wireless card is activated and ready to use. However, NetworkManager doesn't seem to agree and has wireless disabled by default every time I reboot or even logout / login. I have to check the box manually after which it automatically connects to my wifi network at home.
Any idea where I can check that box automatically on boot?
