View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had a working ubuntu 10.10 installation for about 2 months. I had it set up really nicely with my TV card and xbmc. I was really happy until I tried to boot it the other day to show a movie to the Mrs. All I seem to get is a flashing cursor after the initial grub selection. This is the same for both recovery mode and normal. I have booted it after editing the boot selection to removed the quiet splash and it seems to hang after a line that says some thing like "usb 1-4.2: new low speed USB device using ohci_hcd". The machine boots fine in to the Windose partition or in to a live CD.
I have done a bit of searching and I am struggling to find a good step by step troubleshooting guide. I dont really want to blat my setup but it would teach me a lesson about documenting things and blindly doing upgrades. I have included the results from my boot info below in case that points to anything.

I'd like to install Fedora 14 64bit as a dual boot on an existing win 7 32bit system. When I boot with the Live CD, after selecting "boot" in the Fedora boot selection menu, I get a grey screen with a white cursor, and the system freezes. I checked the Live CD on my laptop and it worked perfectly.
My System:

To make Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 wireless card work on ubuntu, you just need to download the firmware from here decompress it and copy the ucode in /lib/firmware. This works in jaunty. My laptop is a HP Elitebook 8440p.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I change the behavior of the selection buffer or a program that uses it ( I have xclip) to not send me text until the mouse button is released while clicking and dragging? This causes havok in the software I'm developing that tries to make use of the selection buffer. I need the full selection, not bits more bits more bits and then the full selection.EDIT: I cannot listen for mouse events such as button release outside of the GUI of my program.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Jessie (8.1.0) and encountered a problem which is non-existent in Wheezy (7.8.0).
My shell is zsh and I use tmux both installed from packages, I use this zsh feature that when you type "ls /" and then hit "Tab" twice, it will present you a menu where you can select the directory you want navigating the menu with the arrow keys. It works fine out of tmux (in bare shell) but stopped working inside a tmux session. In bare shell you hit Tab twice and get into the menu, in tmux you hit Tab twice and it displays the table of suggestions but just keeps cycling suggestions (cycling directory names) and not sending me to the menu.
Here's some screenshots:
1) Working (no tmux): I hit tab twice and got in the menu.
2) Not working (in tmux): I hit tab twice and it just cycled directory names after "/"
t isn't in my config file, I tried without my .tmux.conf (with tmux set to default settings) and it still had no effect.
I have Debian Jessie 8.0 amd-64 installed. It is a dual boot system with Widnows 8.1 alongside. Both the systems work fine with a few glitches coming at times on jessie. But I assume it should get stabilised with time.
Problem is:
The usb keyboard is no longer detected until the GRUB stage crosses.
* This implies I am unable to press F2 to enter into BIOS
* I am unable to chose Windows 8.1 by using arrow key on the keyboard.
When the default system (first in the grub list), in this case Debian is selected after time runs out then the keyboard comes back to life and works properly thereafter.
So far I have tried the possible solution given at [URL] .... but it did not work.

I use Debian 6 as my main distro, installed on partition 1 (sda1) on my laptop. After installing a second distro on sda2 everything still worked fine and both distros show up on the boot up screen. After installing a 3rd distro on sda3; suddenly my cursor (in Debian) is frozen and I can't use either the touch-pad or the 'left and right clickers'. It seems unlikely that this would have anything to do with installing another distro but on the other hand it is a bit of a coincidence...or? The cursor works on the 2nd OS. The 3rd has not yet showed up on the boot screen (I want to do a 'update-grub from within Debian)
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.
Two days ago, the down arrow cursor key quit working on my usb keyboard. I could go up, or left and right, but not down. I figured the key was broke and pulled out a PS/2 keyboard and plugged it in. Problem seemed to be solved. This morning, the down arrow cursor key again was not working. I thought that was a weird coincidence, so I plugged in the old usb keyboard, and the down arrow cursor key was again working!
View 7 Replies View RelatedAm running Ubuntu NBR as the sole OS on my Dell Mini 9. Switched over in March to 9.10 NBR. Everything worked fine.Upgraded to 10.04 when it was released. It's awesome EXCEPT for this busy cursor thing. As soon as I log in, all the time my cursor is the spinning wheel of busyness.... It works just as a normal cursor would - my computer also does not seem to be slower due to any operations. If I open an application, the cursor will behave as usual within the window but if I more my cursor to the title bar or switch out of the application, the "busy cursor" resumes.

Wanted to get some info regarding Ultimate Edition 2.7 and see that the webpage is not active (http://ultimateedition.info) at the moment. Hostgator just says that the website is experiencing difficulties. I checked the website a couple of times today (8/21/10) and see that it's down. Here's the URL I was using: [URL] Anyway, if the project is dead, I'm open to any suggestions regarding distros with a lot of eye candy.
