No I Cant Boot Back Into My Ubuntu 10.04. Says Cannot Find /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disk and lets me be able to use some command, but the prompt thing(right before where you type inthe code)say initramfs, not like c:/.
View 3 Repliesso, i told my friend to try ubuntu on his macbook. He put in the live cd and restarted and it didn't work. So he activated "target disc mode" we think is what it was called. Now we can't boot back into OSX. anyone got a solution to undo what we did?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a fresh Windows 7 install on for a few days before taking the plunge with Ubuntu 10.04. It's great except I want to go back to Windows 7 to reformat by iPod with the Windows HD structure. The problem I have is that when I restart and I am presented with the options of whether I want Ubuntu or the safe mode for Ubuntu or Windows 7 to boot I can't use the arrow keys on my keyboard to scroll down to select Windows. The arrow keys don't work.
The keyboard works fine with the computer. And the Esc, F12 keys etc work to access the bios but not to scroll down and select my boot choice. The keyboard is a silver mac one with the keypad [URL] I've tried searching for the right drivers for the keyboard in case that's it and I've searched these forums and google to no joy.
I had two xp partitions on my hd - one for net and one for photoshop. I deleted the net xp partition and replaced it with Ubuntu, but now I can't boot into my second xp partition that's still there. Does this have something to do with the MBR/Bootloader etc? If so, how do i go about fixing it

As a result, my LCD's do not received a video signal from the system until after the boot loader had loaded linux.There seems to be no way to boot back into OS X. I would like to replace the Yaboot boot loader with the original Apple boot loader without having to reinstall the system software and just use the <option> key at startup to select Linux when I need it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to go back to try Ubuntu again. I used to use it and I wanted to try it again. So I make a partition on my external hard drive to put Ubuntu in. I tried WUBI but that wouldn't work, so I downloaded it and burned it to a disc. I boot into the disc and install Ubuntu NOT on the partition I made. (It wouldn't install there). So it made it's own partition on my External Hard Drive. It installs, my computer restarts and the disc comes out.
My computer is booting up when a command line type screen comes up saying GRUB recovery or something along the lines. I can't do anything or get past it. So I restart my computer with the Ubuntu disc in, and it brings me back to the install menu like it never did anything. I looked in the Disc Utility and saw everything is still in it's place, so nothing happened. I really don't want to be stuck in this Try Ubuntu thing. I can give you all the information I can.

I had to delete all my Windows partitions. I am making new NTFS partitions as I write (thanks to the Live CD). I have not deleted any of the Linux partitions But as a result of the deletion, I cant boot into Ubuntu 10.04. I dont wish to reinstall it because I had lots of packages, settings and scripts in my home directory. I tried getting back on track by using the sudo grub commands, but it could find grub. So I am stuck. Any help, please?

i have a desktop that had had vista on it forever and i decided to install ubuntu on the 10gigs i had free for the longest time so i installed ubuntu but i did a stupid thing in my opinion and installed grubboot loader on the windows partition now when i try to boot vista it takes me back to the bootloader and i need to be able to use both vista(grphicswork) and ubuntu(networking) i cannot loose my vista files by re installing vista
I have an Acer Aspire 5810T which came with Windows Vista. I prefer Ubuntu but I need some windows applications so I dual-booted Vista and 9.10.
There was a few minor problems with the Vista side but I didn't use it enough to care. A few weeks ago Vista would not open some programs and others would shut down automaticly and some would open but not connect to the internet like they should. This happened on my previous laptop and when I used the system recovery discs to restore the computer all those issues were gone.
I used the recover discs to restore everything to its original factory settings, it said everything was successful so I restarted. My computer got to the grub menu but when I chose Windows Vista as my operating system it goes black for half a second then returns to the grub menu.
I can get into Ubuntu fine, and I can see the Vista files when I mount the drive to Ubuntu. When I look at the files everything is the way it should be if I had restored it but I can't boot it..
I have multiple drives on my system and I decided to put Ubuntu on my main 1TB hard drive. I install 9.10 on my drive and it partitions half of it to Ubuntu and install is successful. Well, on reboot I get nothing. I switch to my secondary drive with windows on it already and the dual boot menu appears? Apparently it installs in on SATA1 and not the drive selected as boot in the BIOS. I decided to leave it this way until recently I needed to use the secondary drive on my other rigs failing hard drive. So, how do I get grub on the 1TB hard drive? I ran windows 7 BOOTREC files and recovered the Windows boot, but I couldn't get Ubuntu to recover with live CD nor the GRUB online help didn't work. Is there a simple way to get my dual boot menu back?

I have a dual-boot Ubuntu 10.10 & Windows 7 computer. I when choose "Ubuntu" on the boot menu, it just says something about no wubldr, then the screen goes blank, & it goes back to the boot menu. The last time I used Ubuntu I installed some updates, and it told me to restart the computer. I restarted the computer, and Ubuntu wouldn't start.

I had refit dual-booting snow leopard and ubuntu 10.10.
I tried to upgrade to 11.04 and it got stuck on bootup after the upgrade.
So I went into disk utility and deleted what I thought were all partitions except the mac one. I rebooted, and now I get the grub no partition error.
Did I delete my mac partition? I don't think that I did. How do I boot back into mac os x? Using the option key on bootup no longer shows a mac disk and inserting the mac os x system cd doesn't show any options either.
I have 10.04 and 11.04 in dual boot. how I can get back to exclusively 10.04. I am nervous about the GRUB change.

Two are 1TB drives and are actual real drives, labeled sda and sdb. sda is where I installed Ubuntu (on its own drive). I also made sure that GRUB was assigned to sda during setup.The 3rd drive isn't really a physical drive, it's a stripped RAID. My BIOS has Intel raid support, and I have 2 500GB drives that form one 1TB drive, and that's the one that Windows 7 is installed on. How do I setup GRUB to allow me to boot back into Windows 7?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just had a phone call from an 8.04/win xp duel boot user who has lost the boot entry to xp after a 8.04 update. I guessed at a system upgrade but she checked and is still on Hardy. They write and only have the xp for printing as there is no Linux support for the cannon printer. Using the printer is important. I've said I'll pop round and try to sort it out. Any ideas how I can do this. Update grub in recovery mode maybe or if I need the command line what should I try? I'd like to know before calling as though I'm not quite a novice this isn't a problem I've had to cope with since grub 2 beta ( didn't solve it then either an am still using 9.04 ). Hacking legacy will be new to me. As this is a writers machine with all her work on it I'd regard it as a critical pc, don't want to mess things up for her.

Now I'm attempting to get back into the OS to remove the drivers, but when I choose Ubuntu Recovery Mode from the grub boot screen, it shows some dmesg output and then the screen goes black. Whats interesting is it doesn't even ask me to decrypt the hard drive (like it normally does). how I can get back into the OS to remove the drivers?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had Kubuntu 10.04 installed, I screwed up a bunch of stuff in it and it would hang after the login screen. I reinstalled Kubuntu 10.10 (formatted the partition with Kubuntu on it) but I kept my /home partition in tact. NOw, when I log in, i starts to load, and then KICKS ME OUT, back into the log in screen. The user does exist, I can access the user from the console, but when I try to get into Kubuntu, it kicks me back out to login. What on earth is going on? I've tried failsafe mode as well as regular login. neither works.
View 2 Replies View Relatedjust recently, while attempting to boot to windows 7, i happened to select the wrong boot option by mistake, that is the windows 7 recovery (something like that, cant remember it specifically, but the word 'recovery' is there). the option has been there eversince i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my system, of which i cant find the answer as to why it existed there. so once i selected it (which was by mistake), it took me into some recovery process which i abandoned as quickly. it restarted and the windows 7 option was no longer there. the windows 7 recovery option, however, is still there. Recently though, I got netflix and found that there is no support for Linux distros. So, begrudgingly, I installed a small Windows Partition on my computer. So here's the problem: I can't boot back into Ubuntu. Whenever I turn on my computer, it automatically boots up into Windows 7. I know my Ubuntu partition is still there, because when I boot from my live disc I can see it. Is there a way I can fix this using Windows and/or a live disc?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Debian 5 hours ago, and I am fighting with it since then. I'll pass on the tons of issues I am encountering (wrong desktop environment (I asked for debian's, I got Gnome), shitload of various errors when doing basic things, resolution of a minitel).
The biggest issue I am having is that Grub is not listing Windows and I can't boot into it. I've tried os-prober and update-grub, the boot info script detects Windows 7 (it's windows 10 but, whatever), I've tried to boot into a windows repair USB stick and fix the mbr and boot through the cmd (which both returned success). I am currently trying to create boot-repair USB stick, but I keep getting errors about file systems not handling symbolic links...
How can I repair Windows boot (which seems to have been messed up by Debian's setup)..
Also, I am quite used to linux and unix systems, as I am dev and use Mac OS at work and used Ubuntu/Fedora for years, and I never had such a bad and messy experience with any of those OS...

View 9 Replies View RelatedNow after my experiments with Open Indiana on another partition, I have rewrite my Suse Grub, that was as in / suse partition as in MBR. Suse partition is intact as well as files in /boot/grub, but in MBR is boot loader of Open Indiana as primary. How can I get back Suse boot loader. On Installation media under Rescue system I didn't find any option for re-installation of boot loader.
P. S. Now I can run Suse completely in Gui without any problem, because, I made some changes, in Open Indiana boot loader, but I would like return a Suse Grub.
Whenever I load Ubuntu on a machine with other OS(s) loaded it always recognizes and adds an entry in the bootloader menu. Not this time. Well kind of. Ubuntu 10.10 on a partition; and
Ubuntu ultimate edition gamers (based on ubuntu 10.10 I believe).
I've only recently installed the gamers edition as a dual boot to see what it looks like. Now I've had a play around with it I've realised that I don;t really like it.What's the quickest/easiest way of reverting back to my original ubuntu 10.10 as a single boot? I don't want to re-install 10.10 - I was hoping I could delete the gamers edition to get back to my original single boot 10.10.
