Ubuntu :: C++ Gives Different Results In Windows And 10.04 With G++?
Jun 2, 2010
I have compiled the same program and I get different results when the program is run in windows and in ubuntu, in windows I run it with Dev C++. I was wondering if someone could provide insight on this. My expected result is the one that Windows gives. However, I would really like to work in Ubuntu.

Just have installed 11.4 on an EVGA X58 I7 LGA1366 platform, 6 GB of RAM, with twin EVGA/NVidia GEForce GTS 250 SLI cards. X11 is configured for the desktop spread across all 4 monitors. I added the NVidia repo, downloaded the NVidia drivers and desktop widget. I am running the default kernel. The NVidia items showing installed via YAST are the nvidia gfx02 kmp desktop graphics driver kernel module for GEForce6xx and newer GPU's, the Nvidia G02 graphics driver for the same version card and the x11-xorg-driver-video-nouveau accelerated opensource driver for NVidia cards.
Graphics performance is horrible-- moving windows results in jittery motion, starting new programs requires a lot of time, sometimes windows leave "trails" and blur when they are moved..... and whenever anything is moved I see (via GKrellm) CPU usage go way up. I am guessing this is to service the graphics. So I am not satisfied that I have the correct driver installed for the video cards. Additionally I question that the noveaux accelerated open source driver is there as well--I would assume that was part of the install package.
From the NVidia page, using their tools to insure the correct driver is selected, I downloaded NVidia Linux-X86_64-260.19.44.run. I do not find this same driver designation (minus the .run) on any of the repo listed drivers in YAST. I assume that to manually compile the driver I downloaded its going to be configure-make-make-install or something similar. I do have (in prep for this) gcc, make and the kernel.src installed. Question is should I uninstall the existing drivers and NVidia packages before trying to build and install the NVidia package that I downloaded directly from their site?

I'm timing how long it takes to run a command foo. I'm looking to append the results from the time command to a file, and discard the results from the foo command. I tried the following, but it didn't do what I want:
$ time ./foo > /dev/null >> output_from_time_command.txt

I have a dual-boot windows and Suse linux 11.1 setup. I can save and restore a linux image. Trying to save an image of Windows results in Partimage freezing at the "NTFS Information" window before the "save partition to image file." I have two SystemRescue CDs of versions 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 I have two computers one with Windows 2000 and one with Windows XP I have defragmented the partitions several times over. Users are told that use with "NTFS is experimantal". Several up-beat webpage tutorials also mention this but go on to say how marvellous it works for them. Naturally, such sites do not mention problems. This is the province of the forums. I have found nothing that relates to my problem though. Hence my post appealing for any guidance on offer.

I forced a fsck on the next boot by.Code: sudo touch /forcefsck.Where did the results go?/var/log/fsck/checkfs and /var/log/fsck/checkroot both read "(Nothing has been logged yet.)" Am I to assume that if there are no errors nothing is written to the log files?

I scheduled a job, 'ls -a', with the at command, 3 minutes in the future. It looks like the job ran, but I cannot see the results of 'ls -a'. I accessed my mail with the 'mail' command and saw that the output of my scheduled job was message 1. I typed in '1' after the & prompt, and saw that the subject of the message was the output of my job, scheduled at the time specified with the 'at' command. I cannot see the output of the 'ls -a' command that I scheduled though. How do I see the contents of the message, and the actual output of the job.

So when I press Super + F I get "Search Files & Folders" but I don't get any results when I search for files/folders I know are in my home folder.
Am I missing something, do I need to install any other packages for this to work?

A bit back the "Pictures" folder used by the screen saver disappeared. I created a new one, and since I had the files backed up, I put my series of pictures in.But since then in screen saver mode a tremendous variety of pictures are showing up. Some from web pages I have looked at, some from another folder where I store personal fotos, some from pdf files I have looked at, and some I have no idea where they came from... and of course some from my Pictures folder.
This is not a "serious" problem, but I am left very curious as to what happened, or how to correct the situation.... if there is a correction.

Bit of a strange one - locate is not finding any files ??
I'm running xubuntu karmic and 'locate' is actually 'mlocate' so doesn't allow the -u switch.
Is there some way of forcing it to reindex?

I just ran the port scanner from the Network Tools utility a few times within a few minutes (see screenshots). How can there be different ports open each time? I know that port 631 is for CUPS, but what about the other ones? Could someone help me understand what is going on, or at least point me in the direction of some good information?

Open synaptic. Type in the word "Game". Then you have to scroll down through the list of results and mark each one, individually. Is there any way that I can simply mark ALL the results of the search? There is an "Unmark all" button. Can we get a "Mark all" button? It would have to mark only those packages that currently appear in the right hand box.

By the way, I don't have any sound problems. I just want to get the best results from the built-in speakers & when I connect my laptop to external speakers. I have a Sony VAIO VGN-NR32M laptop.

I'm running Edubuntu 10.10 64 bit on an LTSP box here at work. Two of them, in fact. In each instance, we have a Ricoh MP2500 network printer.
Scenario 1 - I print, it works. Scenario 2 - I print, the printer heats up, the wheels spin, yet it never actually prints a page. Each box is from the same Edubuntu install CD. Each box is set up as identically as possible with very minimal differences (aside from software set, as one is for Middle School and the other for High School) Each scenario has an identical printer. Each scenario has the same printer driver.

I recently had to reinstall everything on my computer (i used 10.10), but every since i did so the ubuntu software center has gone all funny. There are very few results (for example, there are only 21 results in the whole of the games section) and most of the results are paid applications - but not all are. Every result in the games section is a paid app, and when i search for things that used to be there, they aren't any more.

For several reasons I still use Ubuntu 9.04 and for other reasons I dont like F-Spot for image-management (especially because it lacks the feature to manually sort your images -- or is there a way to do this?). gThumb lets me create manually sorted catalogs of images, so I use this piece of software. I would like to test the new (unstable) version -- 2.11 -- instead of 2.10, but it requires libexif-2.4 -- Jaunty has libexif 2.5 by default and I dont know a way to downgrade to 2.4. Is this possible somehow? I was trying both installing gThumb 2.11 from deb package and compiling it from source, both with the same result -- failure.

I've installed ClamTK on my Kubuntu 9.10 installation, since it's connected to a Windows7 machine.When I ran a scan, it found 9 'viruses', but they are all within my home directory > Opera/mail/store and are either status Phishing.Heuristics.Email.SpoofedDomain OR HTML.Phishing.Bank-593.I recently synced my Hotmail into Opera, so I checked the corresponding dates in my Hotmail account and deleted the emails which I thought were related, however, after clearing down my Opera history, etc., re-booting my PC and re-scanning, the results are the same.How do I clear down these files?

thing I did when I installed 10.04 was to re-arrange my icons. I clicked on the first and started to drag. The icon did not move, and nautilus was using 94% of my cpu for a good 15-20 seconds before gtk-window-decorator was using 95-100% of my cpu for a few more seconds. Finally, after a few more unsuccessful tries with the same results, I was able to move the icons.
I assumed this was a bug in nautilus, however the same thing occurred in Chrome when I tried to re-arrange my bookmarks, and the same thing in gnome-panel. The only thing in common I see is gtk-window-decorator.

i wonder if it is usual that the results of running commands via the command line is different from running them in a script file. my problem is that, i've to run 'modprobe -r e100' and 'modprobe e100' before suspend my machine via pmi in order to resume it properly. i wrote a script containg EXACTLY the same commands as i typed in the terminal/console but the result was not the same. the machine cannot be resumed as expected if i run the script file.

I have a fairly old laptop that has been running 8.04. I got the 10.04 alternative CD and updated the system. After the reboot the screen just stays blank. I have left it running for some time to see if anything happens. I have tried to CTRL+ALT+F1 to get a console. But nothing.
So I looked up some solutions on the internet and decided to try xubuntu too see if this may be related to the low (old) specs of the laptop. Got the xubuntu CD. But even booting from the xubuntu CD (try before you install) results in a blank screen. 9.10 boots fine from the CD, but I have not tried to install it yet.

I'm trying to 'upgrade' my 500gb drive to a bigger 1tb. I thought it would be as easy as using dd from the smaller to the larger then swapping them. However, after using dd, although the partitions seem to be there on the 1tb drive, they all have a bad superblock and can't be mounted.

Upon a while of searching, I think I failed to find the correct terms and I'm posting here. I often use mlocate to search for files. For example, if I say
Code:
$ mlocate temp_2.pdf
I'll get two results:
Code:
/home/kmc/Documents/latex/temp_2.pdf
/home/kmc/Documents/latex/test/temp_2.pdf
Now if I want to open one of them, I'll have to either open Acroread and browse to their locations. Or select and copy, and call acroread in terminal like
Code:
$ acroread /home/kmc/Documents/latex/temp_2.pdf
This is tedious to me. I'm thinking of a way of quickly open its search results, I've tried pipes like this but it doesn't work:
Code:
$ mlocate temp_2.pdf | acroread
maybe it doesn't work this way. So what does the trick? What's the name of this trick? I've googled for
Quote:
Linux bash catch output, pipe output, open mlocate results And is it possible to handle multiple lines of output, e.g., can I choose which line of output get forwarded to relative programs?

I've recently installed Natty and now I've got a problem mounting two of my partitions via fstab. This is what my fstab file looks like:
Code:
proc /proc proc nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
UUID=2ea65813-a227-405f-90d2-69598120808e / ext4 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
UUID=6e4f2339-b796-484e-9473-804b4db1531e /home ext4
[Code].....
I CAN mount them by first executing sudo umount -a (which tells me that the two partitions in question cannot be unmounted, because they are not mounted) and then sudo mount -a (which correctly mounts the two partitions). The mount does not work, if I omit the umount command.
