I'm using Gnome on openSUSE 11.3. I wonder. How do you edit screensaver properties? For example get phosphor to display a stream of news? You could specify in Fedora and Ubuntu.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm evaluating OpenSUSE and have installed 11.3 with Gnome (from the latest liveCD) and have it all running fine in a VM at the moment. We are looking at using it for an iSCSI/NFS/Samba server and have it allrunning and it is all configurable from Yast. However I can't seem to get Nautilus to play ball and allow sharing of Samba/NFS shares under folder properties (I'm fairly positive I've done this fine in Ubuntu). All I ever get is Usershare/Gnome sharing (which I believe is Webdav).
I must say I am so impressed with OpenSUSE, the partition manager is just a dream to use and everything works really well it would just be really nice to be able to share NFS/Samaba shares from the file manager. There doesn't seem to be any other file managers in the repositories so I'm a bit stuck now.
I have some photos that were taken with the wrong date set in the camera
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure this is the cause, but after I changed the properties of gstreamer, by following a fix on VLC freezing during video playback, I cannot control my desktop anymore.Luckily I can still switch windows thanks to docky. Unfortunately I cannot change the tab in the gstreamer-properties so I can reset my change. I changed the video from default to X11.How can I edit it manually from the command line?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a network folder bookmarked the file browser. there is a user name and password required to access this folder. i set it to save my password forever the first time i accessed it. when my password is forced to change i can no longer access this folder. i would expect this. however it doesn't ask me for a new password when i try to access the folder. just says unable to access. Nor can i figure out how to get to a place where i can manually update this password.even if i try to smb directly to it it says unable to access with no prompt for credentials. if i smb to the folder above it it asks for credentials, and i can get into it. but when i click on the folder i want still says can not access.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Debian GNU/Linux 7.8 with Linux 3.16.0-0 (x86_64) from backports and XFCE. I am using nautilus for the default file manager because thunar is not able to connect to server. My problem is that when i want to upload a file from iceweasel, the bookmarked webdav location on nautilus is not shown. This mean that iceweasel doesn't use nautilus? If so how to change this? Nautilus is checked in the default programs.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI run opensuse 11 at work. I'm trying to see the list of shares on a "server" that is running windows server 2000. If I try smb://server, it doesn't show any shares, but I can browse directly to it such as smb://server/share1. If I use smbclient, it returns the list of shares correctly. I guess I just don't understand why smbclient shows the list of shared folders, but nautilus cannot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working as a Linux administrator in a very small data centre with 5 servers with following routine tasks.
1. Managing SAMBA shares and giving user specific access for the shares.
2. Scheduling backup of some mount points with rsycn to store data in remote hard disk
3. User and group administration, with sudo access.
4. Creating and Managing Xen Virtual machines and giving access to other project teams.
5. Automating some tasks with Shell Scripting.
6. Managing FTP server for user uploads.

I am giving 10.04RC a try instead of Windows 7, so far so good. I can connect to my network shares fine using "Connect to a Server" & bookmark with the file browser, however when I use OpenOffice writer Spreadsheet to open/save files the shares disappear in the"Open/Places". Is this a bug in Ubuntu or Open Office? Is there an update/fix?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't get rid of the "Mail Notification Properties" Window at startup. Every time the system comes up, there is the window for the settings. It's just empty as I don't want any more mail notifications than Thunderbird has.
I looked into the Mail Notification Properties and haven't found any settings to get rid of the window. And I disabled "Mail Notification" in System > Preferences.
Still this window keeps coming back over and over again.
It even survived the upgrade from Karmic to Lucid. How can I get rid of it?
I had both the taskbar panel (that starts default at bottom) and main panel (that default starts on top) both moved to the bottom because I'm used to Windows. I changed one panel to autohide, the topmost I believe, and now the two panels seem to have merged, with me being unable to right click either panel and access the panels to remedy the situation. The panels flicker erratically when I have my mouse on top of the panel and the only thing I can access is trash, power, and mail, with no other options.I read in other posts that I should try to access the terminal, but I never set up a keyboard shortcut to the terminal and am unsure if I can access it any other way. I saw the virtual terminal, but was unable to open anything through it.I took a screenshot to show what I have:Please note that right clicking the panel does absolutely nothing, so I am pretty desperate at this point. I had to access the internet through my other computer to post this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can hide it ?Or unless to request a password?I want to do this because Sometimes My cousins use my PC and I don't really want to set an account for each one so I let them use the mine.Problem is I have important files that i don't want to hide but to make them unerasable (I doubt that word exist though)I mean to not let them erase them but some are pretty clever and they Know of the properties option so they can change the attributes.

I'm having trouble finding the correct modifiers to the stat command to print out the file/folder properties in human readable format. I would like to run a command on a given file or folder and have the file size in kb, mb, or gb size as opposed to byte size in addition to other pertinent information.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsually I try to fix things on my own, which btw always ends up failing So the other day I got an update of some packages, I installed them and restarted the pc. When I was back in ubuntu, the speaker icon on my panel was gone, and so was the audio settings for pulse too. When I went to system > pref > sound I got an error. So now I decided to ditch pulse. Pulse have always given me problems btw. I installed alsa, but couldn't get the shortcuts for up, down and mute to work. This is important to me because idk where the audio button on my laptop is (ASUS). So I tweaked around for awhile and decided to go for OSS since it's the only option that will allow me to record both out and ingoing audio, which is an option I use a lot. So I tweaked around and all that stuff, and now I'm very frustrated.
I have come to the conclusion that my audio card is unrecognized now. I think I have every single ALSA / OSS driver, plugin and codec installed. Ok here's the audio card info I got from the command lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Cougar Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05) 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be9 (rev a1) So the card is some how recognized by the system but not according to gstreamer-properties.
I need to modify the shortcut for etherape to start in root/sudo mode.Normally I would do this: -- su-to-root -X c /usr/bin/etherapeBut I can't go to the properties of a shortcut in that bar/dash/dock in 11.04.

You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 to try out right? Well, I tried to expand the height of the bottom task bar to 35, and when I did, it had an graphical issue happen. Its almost as though the image isnt large enough so it starting repeating it to fill in the height. I think I can do screenshots so I can show below. Is there anyway to fix that?
The other question I have is, why is GNOME and KDE both using such larger buttons and drawing then Windows or even MacOS? Can they be made smaller? I can include screenshots for those if I need to.
I opened gstreamer-properties from the terminal. Following some directions from another thread, I changed the output to "custom" and filled in a box with a bunch of code that I didn't know anything about. I pressed "test" and it didn't work. Out of frustration, I deleted the text I had written in the box and closed gstreamer-properties. Now it won't open back up. When I try to open it from the terminal I get:
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'artsdsink'
gstreamer-properties-Message: Skipping unavailable plugin 'esdsink'
Segmentation fault
That's it. It won't open and when I try to open it directly from its source folder, nothing happens at all. How can I open it back up so I can continue to fiddle with it and (hopefully) fix this blue-tint problem.

I have installed Virtualbox from their website. I was able to create an XP virtualbox. I have tried several times, though, to download the XP disc to the virtualbox and I keep getting an error message that says it needs 32 bits. I found the display properties box and changed it from 16 to 32, also restarted the computer.I am still getting a wrong machine message with this error message about 16 bit. What am I missing?
